New Rules Posted!

Greetings!

It only took a decade, but r/saxophonics now officially has rules! Please read them at your convenience, and notify me of any perceived problems. They are very general, ands I don't think anyone will take issue with them. Better yet, we're on the right track to weeding out even more spam posting and assholes in general!

Keep an eye out for more updates regarding the subreddit's admin details!

Best platform for hosting our saxophone resources?

We have a very extensive library of PDF's that are stuck on mediafire servers (that I can fortunately still access). These are resources I want to make sure everyone has access to, so I'm in the process of finding the best medium for hosting these files to eventually be linked on our subreddit's sidebar.

\*The current mediafire link is now in the sidebar*\**

As always, please message me or comment with any concerns or ideas. Cheers!

Really Big Sax

This is a fun cartoon about a gigantic Saxophone. Big Saxophones are in vogue right now. They really only have one use, though. Recording videos of the owner playing low notes and posting them on YouTube.

Mouthpiece model?

I’ve been watching this saxomophone on the Ebay, particularly curious about the mouthpiece.

Does anyone recognize the make/model from the shape?

Looking for a saxophone/trumpet player for a house song.

A bit about me...

I'm 24 and from the UK and I make music for fun. I also study engineering and play videogames and own a discord community for some gamers.

I've been making music for about 9 years now and mostly sold them online for extra money.

I want to swap out the saxophone I have for a better one.

Your task would be to provide a .wav file or multiple of saxophone / trumpet sounds very similar in melody to what I had going on.

I'm interested in doing royalties so 18% of the song earnings go to you. I plan to distribute the song with distrokid.

My discord is Masol1102

Looking for advice! :)

Hello, so I'm a massive fan of Alabaster DePlume's music (https://music.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_nmma-ai9vXHuArkQflSRpnfgwbKblhfVo&si=mCRmNDFhjFzU7sZH) and his stuff is the reason I picked up the sax in the first place. I know his style is really unique and inimitable but I do want to eventually play music that's at least inspired by him.

I know he mostly plays the tenor sax but I could only get my hands on a secondhand alto for now. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to music and am learning the basics of music theory now. Everything is self taught.

I hope to eventually work up to getting a tenor sax for myself. In the meantime, I'm all ears for any advice you all might have for me. What should I be practicing, looking into, doing for now?

I also have some questions about saxophone parts.

- what kind of reeds should I be using if I want my music to sound as much like his as possible? currently I have a vandoren strength 3 reed, and an ammoon strength 1 1/2 reed. the ammoon is easier to play with for now since I'm a beginner and probably don't have the muscles built up for a particularly strong embouchure yet, but I imagine I might want to get thicker reeds eventually?

- should I be looking too much into the kind of mouthpiece / ligature I have, if case I need to replace them eventually?

- what should I (eventually) be looking out for in a tenor saxophone, if my aim is for my music to sound similar to his?

I'm well aware that what I should be focusing on right now is drilling the basics--which I am!
I'm just all ears for whatever advice anyone has to give me.

Thanks a lot!

I want to buy a saxophone

Hi, recently I’ve been online looking for saxophones to buy, what brands should I totally avoid? And what hidden gems are there? I’m a student saxophonist but would like to start playing intermediate/professional saxophones, currently I only have 500 bucks, but I’m trying to save up money (any money making tips would also be nice), what reed, mouthpiece, and saxophone brands should I look for?

I'm searching for saxophonists interested in commissioning new music!

Hey sax people! Sorry if this isn't allowed in this subreddit, but I've been on the hunt for sax players and figured this might be a good place to ask. I'm running a consortium for a new alto saxophone solo composition (with piano) and I'm still searching for people who might be interested in joining. If you want to commission new music and help expand the repertoire, I hope you'll check it out! This piece will be fully programmatic and pretty challenging; probably suitable for anyone studying at a university level and above. The buy in is very affordable to hopefully include as many players as possible.

Here's the link with all the information about the consortium: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfFZlPjdGDbw4SkmOum1SkYJu-718aqPyi_KH4PuptJBrYC1Q/viewform

Thank you guys!
