News Rules on Spoilers for Season 11 (Or S2 of Revival) Spoiler

Hey ya'll! So, I completely missed that the new revival season is coming so soon! I guess a side effect of the year going by so fast, and the fact my mind has been distracted by all the promising games I've been tracking. I'm very excited to see what they've got in store from September 30th onward.

I will, of course, be continuing the trend of discussion threads for each new episode. If I don't remember to post it, feel free to send me a friendly DM.

With a new season comes new spoilers to worry about. I'm standing firm on the rules from before but adjusting them to apply to ALL revival seasons.

Rule: DO NOT Post spoilers in titles when it comes to any new season from the Revival (10, 11, and beyond). Keep post titles vague.

Rule: Spoilers of ANY Revival Season must be appropriately tagged with the post flair "Revival Spoilers".

Rule: Posts with spoilers of Season 10, 11, or beyond of any kind (this includes cast interviews that suggest cameos, speculative information that is not confirmed, and any and all things that could potentially spoil for another viewer) must be marked with a spoiler for the entire post. If you're not sure if it counts, spoiler it anyway if it has anything to do with Season 10 or a future season.

The basic idea: Assume anything and everything related to a Revival season is a spoiler that should be blocked out. Failure to adhere to any of all three rules will result in a post being removed. If I or goobuddy do not see a spoiler in time to remove it, please report it!

Discussion JD Kinda Sucks???

I'm in the middle of a re-watch (2nd?) and I'm on season 4. JD really is kind of horrible. I don't remember him being such a prick. More distressingly, I remember kind of identifying with him and finding the Elliot stuff enviable.now that I'm middle aged, He's kinda unwatchable. I kinda remember him sucking during the Mandy Moore and porch story arcs, which doesn't fill me w/ hope. I'm hoping he is written better once Elizabeth Banks shows up

If you haven't seen season 9 and you're debating watching it... Don't. Seriously.

As I stare at my TV, dark with my shame, questioning the decisions I've made in my life that have led me here... I feel a deep desire to try to help my fellow humans avoid the trap into which I've tragically fallen.

Save yourself. Learn from my mistake.

I unfortunately listened to some redditors on some other posts about this topic who said season 9 was worth watching at least once, if not also during rewatches. It was not. It really was not good. I figured that some sorta-Scrubs content was better than none, right?

Wrong.

By the time I was halfway through the season, I really didn't want to keep going but I felt obligated. Now that I've finished it, I'm immensely relieved. Season 9 didn't ruin the first eight seasons for me, but it sure feels like it tried. I'm really looking forward to the new show based on what I've heard, and to get the taste of season 9 out of my mouth. Anyway, yeah, I really wanted to get this out there to whoever might look into this in the future like I did so they might come upon my post and be spared the pain of season 9. Seriously, it's precious hours of your life; please don't use it on this season.

Just some of the reasons to skip it:

  1. The characters are now caricatures. Even previously layered and deep characters are now one-dimensional and uninteresting.

  2. The writing... My god, the writing. There may not be a better case in television history to prove how important the writing is to a series. Almost all the writers left after season 8, and it shows. Oftentimes, when characters would speak, with furrowed brows and confusion in my mind, I'd have the thought: 'was that supposed to be funny?' It often felt like the writers thought they were hilarious, without any conception of how their 'jokes' would be received by the audience. But like the characters, the humor was terribly shallow and lame and not nearly as clever as the writers thought. To quantify it and put it in perspective, I went from maybe 1-2 laughs per minute (if not more, on average) before season 9 to 1-2 laughs per episode during season 9 (if that). Many more exasperated exhales than laughs. There was one moment where I had a big laugh during the entire season, and I don't even remember what it was and I finished the season within the past hour.

  3. Sadly, the senior actors couldn't save the writing/show (through no fault of their own). JD was still JD, Cox was still Cox (albeit very shallow versions of themselves), etc, and it helped very slightly, but for the most part they could only do so much with what they were given. While these characters had grown and matured through eight seasons leading up to this point, becoming multi-faceted, fleshed-out people, when season 9 came along... JD is the girliest girl to ever girl and also extremely needy all the time, and Turk is a moron meathead surgeon, and they're gay for each other, don't forget! Dr. Cox is an ass and nothing more! Dr. Kelso is a raging sex-fiend! That's all really funny, right? So funny we'll keep making those points over and over!

There are other reasons too, but others have likely expressed them better than I could. In any case... To those on the fence about this: I could not more strongly recommend that you skip this season, even if you've never seen it. Season 8's ending is known far and wide as basically a perfect ending to the (original) series (in part because it actually was the planned ending). Some content just isn't worth consuming, even if it's tangentially connected to content you do like.

That all said, melodrama aside... If you read this and still want to watch it, you do you. This is just my opinion, after all. But if you do, at the very least, curb your expectations. I'm genuinely just trying to save people some time (time is your most valuable resource), but it's up to y'all in the end.

Discussion Scrubs re-watching: the soundtrack hits differently...

I posted some time back, about re watching first 8 seasons of Scrubs.

I must admit at 43 years old, the soundtrack hits differently now. I have that that nostalgic, sad, joyful and melancholic....feeling..

And almost uncannily they managed to beautifully segue the scenes and the songs in each episodes.

Personal favourite - when Ted (RIP Sam Lloyd) and his band , play over the rainbow and the camera pans to each floor... magnificent!!

Edit : apparently Christa Miller (love her since the The Drew Carey Show) had been the mastermind of finding many songs for Scrubs

I never thought about it, but her way of talking and her voice are really unique, my brain instantly clicked, I hadn't seen her on screen and she was only saying one word. Instant scrubs flashbacks!

Discussion I know it’s an awful idea but…

…If there happened to a Scrubs prequel series, who would you pick for the main character? Obviously as well as it being a horrible idea it couldn’t be done due to the actors ages and you couldn’t replace them.

For me I think the Janitor and Elliott have the most potentially interesting backstories but Kelso would be incredibly fun to watch.
