Etc. Wish me luck.
This is my first ever permadeath playthrough, I'm already down Slade, Luke, May, and I'm about to fight the Kraken. I made sure to grind as much as possible before the fight. Wish me good luck.
Edit : Welp I managed to steamroll that fight lol, but obviously, to no one's surprise, Kiwi bought it in that battle. Mostly due to my complacency. I should have sent him to the other side of the raft when the head got near, but I friggin forgot about the boss double turn mechanic, and he got bubbled to death. 😆
Edit 2 : Let me know if you guys want me to keep you posted on any specific battles. I'll be glad to have you guys along for the journey.

Whoa I’ve never done this before. So it’s just no save states, you start, and if ANYONE dies you just keep going? And obviously if Bowie dies it’s gg? I’ve been watching a lot of SF2 content on YouTube cuz I love it and was kinda thinking about playing it again. This would be a good way to do it. What difficulty do you play on?

Since this is my first time permadeath I'm just playing on hard difficulty. And yeah if you lose someone that's it, they are gone forever and losing Bowie means the run is over.

Luke sucks. May is not good for deathless, wayyyyy to squishy.
Sorry for your loss of Slade

Yeah, fricking sucks. 😭 I wasn't paying attention and he got blasted by a witch in the north cave area.

Did you get the Achilles sword already? You can get it before the kraken.

Edit I actually noticed I hadn't gotten it right after posting. I did go back and get it first though.

What are you playing on?

Mobile.

Used to play on mobile it’s really good but the Rewind features 100X better on the console version (I try not to rewind but it’s hard to stop myself)

I never use that shit. It just doesn't feel right. 😆

I, on the other hand, reroll every time one of my guys misses a target or I take a double attack on character with extra low health. I’m a wuss.
I love the portability of the three shining games on mobile

Are you letting Peter come back if he dies since he's a Phoenix and that's part of his whole deal?

u/Additional_Ad_5863 11d ago
I'm still debating that but I'm leaning more towards a yes.

Hi OP I’d love to see how you manage the later battles, especially the dreaded chess army. Good luck! 😁

u/Additional_Ad_5863 10d ago
Yeah, I can't say I'm looking forward to that one. I'm thinking of promoting earlier then I normally do just to get past that point because I vaguely remember that you can't even grind that fight properly without being swamped by enemies.

You going to power level at the eleven village? You can get to level 23 promoted with everyone, and it make the game inconsequential.

u/Additional_Ad_5863 11d ago edited 11d ago
Probably not. My runs typically consiste of me promoting the force at lvl 31 at the bridge battle.
Edit : Although, now that I think about it, I might promote 23-25 for the god damn chess battle. I always get cooked on that fight and this time around I can't afford that.

Jesus this sounds so hard

It does require that you put a little more thought in your characters movements in conjunction to the enemies. Because you can't just send everyone one out and about carelessly and just res them afterwards.

on my first playthrough, i couldnt even even level up chester because of the turn order and how it kept chester from getting anything done. i would kill anytthing with him, so he was like level 6 while everyone else was around level 13. so i said screw it and i chose to start over.

That's where grinding helps, it can be tedious at times but it ensures your characters don't fall behind.

I never understood why people liked Slade anyway. I tried really hard, pushed him for hours, let him get every kill within reason, but gave up at level 9 or so. Even at my highest level character, he was still dying in 1 hit and only doing 1 or 2 damage.

Sounds like you missed a weapon upgrade somewhere for him. As the thief he is kind of weak. But when you upgrade him to ninja, he becomes one of your most power offensive melee characters. He also gains a few spells, I highly recommend putting in the effort to upgrade Slade. He is allowed to wield swords.

I think he definitely missed some weapon upgrades because at lvl 10 slade was hitting the north cave area fight enemies for about 6 - 9 damage depending on the enemy.

i love slade.... as you can see from the name. He is a Rat Thief Ninja that learns magic and for people who liked to level up everyone he grows into a very deadly character.

Depends what level you promote him, I usually promote my guys at 31. It's a slog getting Slade through those fights but after promoting at that level he's pretty facking stronk.
2
u/crumb09 11d ago
Thats quite the slog, getting everyone to 31 prior to promoting. I've done 27 before and said that was enough lol.

u/Additional_Ad_5863 11d ago
Yeah, it's pretty slow up untill the bridge battle. A pain too because you have to maneuver around not getting ganked by groups of enemies so you're just doing pulls most of the time. And you have to watch out for casters.

In my current game I promoted him at 40. Hes second only to peter, who I also promoted at 40.

u/Cirrus-AF 11d ago
Did you get him a Ninja Katana? Its his best weapon if you get him extra levels before promo.

he doesnt seem that special early (just give him the power ring at the start and you shouldnt have a problem), but probably after level 10 or so (or maybe after you can buy a new weapon?) he does just fine. its after you promote him that he becomes an absolute god-beast. solid health, incredible attack, 7 movement and not affected by forests movement penalty. the only think he isnt godly in is defense, but doesnt matter much when he one-shots things.

Thank you for taking my comment seriously and responding appropriately instead of just down voting. Oh my next play through I'll take note and maybe be more patient with Slade

you're welcome. its a game, and different people experience things differently. i for one hate the archers and birds in sf1, but some people swear by them. i just think that they take too much catering and take too long to come online. people are downvoting you because you simply gave up too early and slade actually becomes a top-3 character in the mid/late game after promotion.
some people are recommending promoting at 40 (which is wildly unnecessary btw), but if you can grind ANYONE to 40, they're going to be really strong because they have 20 extra levels worth of stats. IF YOU DO THAT ANYWAY because you find grinding fun (like me) and/or find the mid-game challenge fun, i think like i said that slade performs ok after 10-ish, and the 10-40 stretch should feel about the same as anyone else. its been a while since i last played, and i think even during 10-20, slade stands as one of the best attackers for the team, or at LEAST solid and no slouch (like luke or kiwi, who suck). i think i usually give the power ring to kiwi so he can be at least semi-functional until the deserts, but if you want to write him off early, you can give it to slade and ensure his ascension and value to the team.

Everytime I do perma death, I’m left with a team of warriors and centaurs.
