Hi, Neighbors!

If you don't have Highland Jazz and Blues Festival on your calendar, we hope you'll add it now! Featuring 3 stages with 15 acts, this free to the community festival takes place at Columbia Park from 10 AM- 6 PM. We'll be kicking off the day with a tribute to the recently passed legendary Buddy Flett and wrapping up with New Orleans based Dumpstaphunk. As always, we offer a free shuttle from St. Vincent Mall that will run routes all day for your convenience.

Bring a chair or a blanket and come enjoy a great day of music, food and vendors!

If you would like to volunteer, we still have a lot of slots open- you can find the info here. Come meet cool people and get a rad new t-shirt!

18M looking for friends!!

Upvotes

Hey y’all, I’m 18 and just looking to meet some new people around Shreveport. I’m definitely more of an introvert but I’m trying to get out more and meet new people. We don’t necessarily have to go out somewhere either, I’m honestly down to just chill and talk, watch something, listen to music, play games, or whatever.

I’m into games, anime, music, and random shit lol. I just sold my Xbox recently too so now I have way too much free time 💀.

I’m pretty chill once I get comfortable, just probably awkward at first 😭. I’m down to talk to pretty much anyone so hmu if you wanna hang out or just chat!!

Government Who are you all voting for mayor?

I’ve seen a lot about Young but I am nervous voting for a republican and I don’t see any reason why he would be better than previous leaders. Unfortunately there are too many democratic candidates, splitting the poll WAY too much and none of them have any particularly strong platforms as far as I can tell. Not sure who I should vote for, especially within the democratic party. I would be willing to vote for Young if there were any convincing arguments but I haven’t seen any.

So long story short, I’m trying to move out my parents place by the beginning of next year. It’s pretty hard to find decent apartments here, especially affordable. Please recommend me some!!

That cool abandoned house on Buncombe / Financial Plaza burnt down

I remember someone a while back asking about this house, and we had a pretty good discussion about it. Well, it burnt down this afternoon. I know it was derelict and would have cost a fortune to repair, but it’s gonna be weird driving by there and not seeing it anymore.

Irish music players?

Anybody here play Irish session music? I had to quit playing my fiddle for a long time because of a shoulder injury and I sure do miss it. It would be so great if we could get a weekly session going here.

Food Restaurant recommendations in Shreveport and/or Bossier for my 13th anniversary tonight???

Hey, everyone! Today is my 13th wedding anniversary, and trying to figure out where I want to go. I had suggested going to Gibbons, because I’ve never been there before, but they are closed on Mondays. I need a Plan B lol. Give me y’all‘s favorite restaurants to go to. Nothing really fancy, just somewhere cool to go out and eat.

Has anyone had trouble with texting through Verizon in the Shreveport area lately?

I've had trouble getting delayed texts through Verizon. For example, I order Kroger delivery, and during that delivery, I should get texts as they shop. You know, for substitutions and unavailable items.

I don't get those texts until 2-3 hours after the delivery is done, and I get them all at once when they finally do arrive.

I have only one other person I text with, and they can be kind of flaky in their response times anyway, so they are of no real help in testing.

I'm located smack in the middle of Bossier and have a strong 5G signal. Strong enough that I also have Verizon's 5G Home Internet.

There are other examples, mainly MFA codes being sent for OKTA and MS Authenticator for work being 5-10 minutes late the last few weeks.

I've tried switching to Airplane Mode and just now performed a Network Settings reset. I'm giving it 2 weeks from today to see if the resets help, then I'm looking into switching to T-Mo, if not.

Any thoughts, guys?

History The day it ended

August 27, 1995

This week in 1995, legislation was enacted to close the eleven-year-old loophole in Louisiana law that permitted eighteen-year-olds to drink despite the National Minimum Age Drinking Age Act of 1984. It might not have been "The Day the Music Died," but in Shreveport, it was widely recognized as the last nail in the coffin for Shreve Square. The Shreve Square entertainment district in downtown had sprung up the late '70's and early 80's with the opening of waterholes like Steamboat Annie's, Circle in the Square, Humpfee's (photo), Denim & Diamonds, Sportspage and others. It was the place to be for young people.

Why Does Shreveport Get Hate?

For context, I am driving back home to Dallas, I’ve never taken this route before. On other subs people make it seem horrible, I stopped last night and spent the night/morning here and I think it goes to show people just like to hate.

I’ve had a good time, everybody has been nice to me. My only complaint is the roads and speed limits (as a Texan, 50 mph is insane) it just reminds me of every other medium sized city.

I know crime is higher than average, but I’d imagine like everywhere else, it’s neighborhood dependent.

Anyway, thanks for the good time and good food locals.

Plasma donation referrals (Grifols)

Plasma donation

Hey all. I'm not sure if this is allowed but if it is, here goes. Anyone that is looking to donate at Talecris/Grifols as a new donor could use me as a reference. My code is OriginMuseum9544. The referral fee is $100 and I have no issue splitting it. Right now I do work a full time job, I donate on the side for an extra income as my job doesn't allow the extra flexibility I need to find a part time. My goal is to pay down some debts, so anything extra I receive is for that. Appreciate it!

I got my usual Johnny's. A Bacon Cheeseburger with no onion and extra cheese. This time, I got thin crust for something different.

I dunno whether to devour it or frame it!
