My family will be coming to St. Lucia in November and we are possibly looking for a guide for a day or two. This is all tentative right now as we have not really defined what we are going to do specifically but we have a general idea.

My wife and I are both active although not exactly athletes. My son is 19 and my daughter will be 17 later in November. We are staying at the Royalton (yes...I've seen the reviews).

We are hoping to do either one or both of the following activities with a personal guide or driver.

1. On the Friday we are there (Friday, November 13th), we would like to take in the Gros Islet Friday Night party. My wife and I were at the island before and did not attend but we do not want to miss this one. The rest of the day is open but going to an open market and travelling the island is an option. We do not want to do the volcano. We've done that but are open to a scenic hike.

2. On one of the other days, we are possibly looking at a water tour where we stop off at different beaches like Sugar Beach. I do not want to drive on the island as I am not sure how well I'd do in hilly terrain while driving with the steering wheel on the opposite side.

I am open to suggestions on companies or individuals who could do this and with an expected cost. We know we could do tours with the resort or book with a large company but we would like it to be more personal and custom to what we would like to see.

Congrats Jordan on such an incredible achievement! In a little over 34 hours Jordan trekked from the northern tip of Saint Lucia, down the east coast down remote beaches, forested hills, carving his way through the island making his way down to Dennery along the East Coast highway. From there he made his way to Vieux fort & to the southern tip of Moule a Chique then back up through the west coast passing through towns & villages such as Laborie, Soufriere, Canaries then all the way back to Castries where I met up with him & followed him ( by car of course) all the way back up to Cap estate where he began his journey.

Phenomenal human being right there.

Saint Lucia La Rose Festival, known in Kweyol as La Woz (Lawòz), is one of the island’s most distinctive cultural traditions, celebrated every year on August 30th with vivid red-and-pink costumes, singing, pageantry, and community pride.

The festival started over 150 years ago among enslaved and peasant communities. It is inspired by Saint Rose of Lima, a young girl who hid roses in her apron to protect food for the poor. It forms a friendly historical rivalry with the La Marguerite (La Magéwit) society, which celebrates on October 17th. Participants dress up as kings, queens, magistrates, soldiers, doctors, nurses, & other members of the hierarchy to mimic colonial court life. The main day features a church service, a colorful street parade, and traditional dancing.

My husband and I are visiting Saint Lucia from December 27th to January 3rd, staying in self-catering accommodation in the Soufrière area. We’re really looking forward to exploring the island, but I have a few questions I’m hoping locals or regular visitors can help with.

1. What’s the island like on New Year’s Day + January 2nd?

- Both days are public holidays, so I’m trying to plan ahead.

- Do supermarkets, small shops, or bakeries usually open at all?

- Are restaurants in Soufrière typically open on Jan 1st and 2nd, or is it more of a “everything shuts down” situation?

- Do tourist spots (waterfalls, beaches, etc.) still operate normally on those days?

Trying to figure out whether we need to stock up on food or adjust plans.

2. Kayaking near Soufrière

We’d love to get out on the water, ideally without committing to a full‑day guided excursion.

- Are there places around Soufrière where you can rent kayaks for a few hours or half a day?

- Or is it mostly tour‑based kayaking on this part of the island?

Any personal recommendations for spots or operators would be amazing.

3. Weekly snorkel gear rental

We’re hoping to rent snorkel gear for the whole week rather than paying per beach or per tour.

Is there anywhere in or near Soufrière that does weekly snorkel gear hire? Or is it usually only available through specific beaches or organised boat trips?

Contemplating a trip for our 10th anniversary in January. We are an active couple in our 40s, well traveled. The thing that's giving me pause is that it seems like everything needs a guide. I tend to like guided tours to an extent, but prefer it when I'm traveling with a larger group of friends, because we are both rather introverted, and when it's just us vs. a group tour, to be honest, it really drains my social battery a LOT to do private tours and I can't see myself doing that every day.

Are there any group options where multiple strangers are on one tour? Can we find lots to do self-driving and without a guide? Enough to fill 5 full days? We plan to spend some time relaxing, but also want to see all that the island has to offer. TIA!

Looking at secrets through Costco travel it’s much more budget friendly but I’ve read some mixed reviews on the drive to it and the resort itself. I’ve seen lots of airbnbs in soufriere and towards the bottom of the island, mostly just interested in which area would be closest to the best beaches and good food.

Hi everyone. My husband and I are looking into visiting at the beginning of December with our 6 month old. We would like to stay within walking distance to beaches and restaurants as we are probably limited in what adventuring we can do with a baby. we aren’t opposed to renting a car and would like to do some shorter hikes and nature based adventures.

Any recommendations on where to stay or things to do with a baby in tow?

My mum loved travelling and since she passed away a few years ago I have tried to light candles in churches on our travels as a way to bring her memory to different places.

This is quite common in Europe - I was wondering if it is also found on St Lucia? If so are there any beautiful churches i should try and visit?

I think we will be staying near Vieux Fort but will take some trips and can try and incorporating a church to light a candle would be nice

This weekend (August 29-30) locals and visitors will be able to check out the preview exhibit for the new St. Lucia underwater sculpture park that is planned for the west coast of the island:

The park has been in development for a while and promises to become a top visitor attraction once it gets all set up underwater. Here guests will be able to come and access the park by either diving or snorkeling and be treated to marine life viewing in the artificial reef and learning about some island history and culture.

We’ve heard that the park is planned for a costal area north of Soufriere and slightly north of one of our often hangouts, the fishing bay of Canaries, in an area known as Anse Verdure.

We actually did attend the opening for the exhibit and trying to get information there wasn’t the easiest. Also no photos were allowed. In typical St. Lucia fashion it’s easier to find out what is really going on through the “informal“ network or by doing one’s one research, locating bits and pieces online, etc.

Is anyone traveling to St Lucia and want to do the Mt Gimme Hike? I generally would prefer to do it solo as I am an avid runner/hiker, but my wife does not feel comfortable with me going by myself so I compromised. I have been in St Lucia all of August and leaving 9/1, I've done petit and gros piton with a guide and while I don't mind a guide and supporting people I had just wanted to do this solo until I discussed with wife. Tet Paul nature trail - could a very active 4 year old do this? Can we pair it with the drive thru volcano and mud baths?

Gros Piton - I’ll do this on my own and need to find a travel operator. Staying at Coconut Bay. How early should I start and how long does this usually take?

Any other hikes I should consider? Is Petit Piton worth it if I also do Gros Piton?

Found this spot tucked away in the St Lucia rainforest and it did not disappoint. Water's freezing but so worth it 😅 Definitely one of those "you'd never find this without a local" kind of places. We got here through Father Nature Adventures .. they do private customizable tours around the island, this was one of the stops on our day.
