Resource - Update [Experimental] DLSS 5 ComfyUI custom node

Hello Everyone,

Would like to present to you my experimental vibe-coded custom node for DLSS 5 support in ComfyUI.

GitHub project: https://github.com/lisitskyaa/ComfyUI-DLSS5-NR

It's early release, just finished my internal testing and it actually works!

Please note there are no any leaked DLLs in the rep, obtain them separately.

First image in every pair is DLSS 5 ON, second - OFF.

P.S. How to extract original images out of Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/comments/1p9nrpk/getting_prompt_or_comfyui_workflow_from_posted/

A compatible, legally obtained nvngx_dlssnr.dll.

wink wink

Sounds like this node is not Linux compatable?

5

u/Enshitification 23h ago

Not as a dll.

There is a Linux version of DLSS5 floating around. I believe I saw it posted in the pcmr sub earlier today.

cries in 3090

14

u/TheForgottenOne69 1d ago

There is a mod for 3000 series

3

u/bitzpua 23h ago

yeah but 30xx series just cannot do it, in game you get drop to 1-5FPS from 120... so yeah. But i guess maybe as node in comfy it will work normally.

6

u/GrayingGamer 16h ago

Use in game? No. Use to comfyui on videos and images? Yes.

Takes half a second per image. Which also explains why it takes the shit out of FPS in games on a 3090....but it's fun to play with in Comfyui.

2

u/TrekForce 17h ago

So it can do it, it’s just slower?

1

u/Ok_Cauliflower_6926 19h ago

The last one drops to about 22fps from 120. They have fp16 and maybe int8 in the near future.

Isn't using DLSS 5 on AI images defeating the whole point? Dlss 5 Isn't an upscaler or a detail enhancer, it's a tool made for real-time games to enhance the realism of lighting and materials.

Ai images don't have this issue, because they're not rasterized 3D polygons.

u/BangkokPadang 1d ago

I think this sortof demonstrates the inverse, that it's not using any information from the 3D models or interframe motion vectors or anything but the last frame, right?

And that... really... it is a detail enhancer.

u/rolleicord 1d ago

its... load bearing

u/BangkokPadang 1d ago

Like the wall by my bed back at university

3

u/AciD1BuRN 1d ago

It is true for now atleast read somewhere the mods were just feeding empty data for most of the required parameters.

3

u/BangkokPadang 1d ago

This is the actual .cpp bridge that does seem to have a larger number of input parameters than I initially thought.

Might be worth a skim through if anyone's interested:

I found it works suprisingly well for AI images as well adding some fine shadows/reflections/details, fixing contrast, etc. Anyway, worth further testing.

u/Dogluvr2905 1d ago

Not to mention you can run against non-AI generated images, too.

2

u/Sad_Coach_1433 1d ago

where did you get the nvngx_dlssnr.dll

6

u/alisitskii 1d ago

Nexus and then Discord

1

u/bitzpua 23h ago

discord, and if you are not on 50xx series you need moded file for 40xx

1

u/jboe2026 19h ago

what about 50xxM?

3

u/physalisx 1d ago

Yes and you can see it in the example images here ... it doesn't do anything useful here.

3

u/Abject-Recognition-9 1d ago

so what? i would like to have this in comfy in my tool arsenal.
Comfy nowadays allow to do a variety of things that are not necessarly associated with ai things, llms, audio/img edit, post production color correction and whatsoever.
I use comfy even to download videos from yt just to say.
so THANK YOU OP for this custom node

Usando somente um prompt com Krea2 já resolve isso sem DLSS.

12

u/VladyCzech 1d ago

Is there something different between the pairs of images? They look the same to me.

7

u/alisitskii 1d ago

Basically DLSS 5 adds some fine shadows, subtle skin details and fixes contrast.

4

u/VladyCzech 1d ago

If the left from each pair is always the DLSS5 version, then I can see better contrast on the last pair. I’m looking forward for future update with more substantial effect . I love DLSS5 in games as it really enhances the visuals in a dramatic way which I prefer. Me partially colorblind I love contrast light and colors. I always do a color correction of all AI images/video as the color/contrast always needs a correction (for me at least).

u/lordekeen 1d ago

Interesting, if it has temporal stability it could work as a fast "beauty pass" for video generations.

1

u/alisitskii 1d ago

I tried that mode, but at the moment I can see some flickering in output videos so looks like it requires further testing/development. But should work just fine for still images.

3

u/lordekeen 1d ago

Well that makes sense assuming DLSS gets the game motion vectors as input for its generations. Maybe with some kind of post processed motion vectors (video > get motion vectors > dlss 5 pass) this could get somewhere.

1

u/Rude_Dependent_9843 20h ago

Ua sacaron un reproductor de vídeo Dlss. En teoría se podría hacer un workflow que emule su funcionamiento y permita guardar los resultados

3

u/GrayingGamer 15h ago

It does cause some flicker in the final output videos because it lacks the vector/movement information that the game would be feeding it - BUT, I've found if you use video editing software like Davinci Resolve it's pretty easy to "deflicker" the video clip DLSS 5 was used on and get a nice result.

I can see this being VERY useful to run over a Turbo lora generated AI video to eliminate the plastic skin and improve details, then deflicker the result in your video editor.

This was run on a 1.0 MP video from Minimax H3 and then run through your DLSS 5 node with temporal_sequencing on, which yes, produced flickering - but then I took it into Davinci Resolve and ran a Deflicker effect over the footage and it solved it completely.

As you can see the skin is MASSIVELY improved. It ficed the contrast, and even the texture in the uniform and chair is improved. It's really impressive in motion.

This really eliminates the plastic AI look of characters in generated videos.

Thanks for the test. I’m thinking about next step is to use some optical flow data from input video and feed DLSS with it. Anyway, Nvidia is going to officially release DLSS 5 in a couple of days so hope we’ll have more insights.

2

u/GrayingGamer 14h ago

That would be awesome if you found a way to incorporate that into your Comfyui node. It would probably dramatically improve the result.

Thanks for the node. Even with the extra deflickering step in a video editor, it so dramatically improves the final video quality I think I'll keep it as a part of my workflow.

I have a 3090, so no interest (or ability) to run DLSS5 in games, but this is a great use for me and makes it a real tool.

2

u/lordekeen 14h ago

Yeah i guess that opencv optical flow is the way to go

5

u/frankyboson 1d ago

i dont see difference between photos

2

u/alisitskii 21h ago

Better check on computer with original images: https://www.reddit.com/r/StableDiffusion/s/1XlhG6iQ6L

2

u/Sgsrules2 1d ago

You might want to label which image has it applied to it.

How are you getting the depth and motion vector maps?

1

u/alisitskii 1d ago edited 16h ago

Added a notice to the post. Depth and motion vector maps are not used at the moment.

2

u/NorX_Aengelll 14h ago

I must be fucking blind cause i barely see the difference that another generation wouldnt have done either...

1

u/nok01101011a 1d ago

Thanks will try it!

1

u/BreezeBlue_X 1d ago

Genius lol, never would've thought to use DLSS 5 like this.

1

u/Abject-Recognition-9 1d ago

point 6 of installation guide is unclear to me,
what does all this means?

Add experimental -> DLSS 5 NR -> DLSS 5 Neural Rendering (Unofficial).

The release ZIP already contains the project-owned native files:

native/bin/dlss5nr_bridge.dll
runtime/caller/nvngx.dll_comfy.dll

Visual Studio / MSVC is not required for normal installation.

_nvngx.dll

Do not normally copy _nvngx.dll yourself. The bridge attempts, in order:

runtime/_nvngx.dll as an explicit local override;

normal Windows DLL search;

automatic discovery in the active NVIDIA DriverStore packages matching nv*.inf_*.

1

u/alisitskii 1d ago edited 16h ago

It’s a path where you can find the node in ComfyUI after installation, just search for “DLSS”. When you download release .zip it already includes own project .DLLs

1

u/Broudison 1d ago

Yoo got it working. But are presets not working? I compare all presets and they look the same.

1

u/alisitskii 21h ago

I think the difference is not that big, yes, but I tested mostly with cinematic.

1

u/narkfestmojo 23h ago

It's good at taking Daz Studio renders and making them look more realistic.

1

u/ZookeepergameMuch278 22h ago

Does it do videos or just photos?

1

u/alisitskii 21h ago

I mostly tested with images but you can try with videos as well, just use right loading/saving nodes in ComfyUI.

1

u/Obvious_Set5239 20h ago

Why they can't pack everything together? I don't think Nvidia will care about a small ComfyUI extension, that just makes their technology available in non-gaming ComfyUI for people to toy with it

1

u/ghulamalchik 19h ago

I can't tell if it's better or worse or what it's doing really. Seems like it just changing lighting and colors a bit and nothing else. So not better or worse just different.

1

u/Ramdak 19h ago

I tested some standalone version of this. It could run videos and images, and it was slow (I have a 3090) but it worked quite well in games captures, the effect was quite noticeable. However for hi details or real images it won't bump it up much, since the details are already there.

1

u/ArchAngelAries 19h ago

I used to be fine with my AMD setup, even if I struggled to run things as fast as NVIDIA users and had to opt for ggufs and smaller quantized models and find work arounds and deal with some increased generation times.... But now... I fully regret having an AMD GPU. For gaming and for AI. (yeah, yeah, AMD ROCm with Linux, blah blah blah. I can run most AI just fin with ROCm on windows, but this? DLSS 5? This is next level shit. Fuck all the haters and fanboi shit... I. Want. This.)

1

u/DataGOGO 17h ago

If one was looking for said dll, where might one look?

1

u/alisitskii 17h ago

Nexus with a link to Discord server with pinned messages. Key word “dlss5” 😏

1

u/DataGOGO 17h ago

you said words, I understood about half of them, lol.

1

u/CaptainMarder 15h ago

wow, gonna test this tonight. It's been cool in games

1

u/Parking_Address574 15h ago

To be honest you just need a prompt with "Make it more realistic" and it is done using krea

1

u/TayG0 11h ago

Sorry, could you expand on this? Do you have a workflow?

I didn't think Krea had editing capabilities.

1

u/WebCrusader 15h ago

isn't there upscaling in dlss 5 i want to test the difference from the rtx vsr upscaling

1

u/alisitskii 15h ago

Nah, as far as I know, it’s more like img2img post processing.

1

u/MannY_SJ 10h ago

Is this not the same as low denoise with a photorealistic model in this context?

2

u/alisitskii 10h ago

Well, in some sense yes, but dlss should be much faster that makes it applicable for video post-processing as well.

1

u/GrayingGamer 9h ago

It's better, because you can use it on videos, and control the settings to a degree not possible without a lot of effort on other models.

It's really a great finishing polish on an AI image to make it look real.

Nvidia wasn't lying - there is a lot more going on under the hood than just an AI filter - you can take a generation you already like, but that isn't "real enough" and dial in color temperature, ambient occlusion, and it's got 3 different built in models that are all tiny (like 50MB apiece) - a natural, cinematic, and default, with different settings for each. The stuff it does to eyes and hair, especially making beards look real, is impressive. And textures, etc.

And it takes less than a second to apply - you aren't going to get those speeds with another model pass. And this one keeps the underlying image identical.

It's worth having in your toolkit, for sure. It's less than 200 MB to get it all set-up, and runs in less than a second. What have you got to lose trying it out?

1

u/CeFurkan 6h ago

Exactly what i was planning to do that can enhance videos and images

1

u/Aware-Swordfish-9055 2h ago

So basically brightness and contrast preset?

1

u/alisitskii 1h ago

As per last Nvidia news release the main two parameters are tone and structure: “DLSS 5 also offers Structure Intensity and Tone Intensity adjustments. Structure Intensity controls high-frequency details such as ambient occlusion, reflections, and subsurface scattering. With Tone Intensity, developers can control the low-frequency details such as broader lighting and color response.”

1

u/TheAncientMillenial 1d ago

This is pretty cool. Gonna check it out.

1

u/C3realkill3r22 1d ago

Works with 40 series?

2

u/alisitskii 1d ago

I have 4080s, and yes, it does. But make sure you supply correct DLSS 5 dll.

1

u/Mysterious_Pride_858 1d ago

Can it use in linux os?

1

u/alisitskii 1d ago

I didn't test that, sorry.

-1

u/FoxTrotte 16h ago

I've tried an equivalent tool, and DLSS 5 ins't really useful on anything that's not a videogame. If you give it real life videos, or offline 3d renders, or AI videos, it does pretty much nothing

-6

u/Sad_Coach_1433 1d ago

you gonna share the nvngx_dlssnr.dll or nust make a pointless post and repo we cant use without that file

6

u/alisitskii 1d ago

Please use Google, Nexus or Discord to obtain required DLL.

-6

u/catgirl_liker 1d ago

not on first page

loginwall

loginwall

Just send the link

8

u/alisitskii 1d ago

No I won’t. I’m not going to re-distribute leaked DLLs. Moreover you need specific version for your GPU generation. That took me 5 mins to find mine.

-12

u/catgirl_liker 1d ago

Don't post shit then

-4

u/Abject-Recognition-9 1d ago

I DONBT UNDERSTAND WHY ALL THIS MISTERY wtf
just share this file guys

1

u/bitzpua 23h ago

its not mystery, file was leaked so no one will officially share it, google it, join discord and get the file from pinned section, if you have anything other then 50xx series you need to go to tools section of that discord and find moded file for older cards.

1

u/CornmeisterNL 22h ago

which discord, buddy ?

2

u/bitzpua 23h ago

that dll was leaked, no one is going to put leaked files in their projects.
