I’m an international student and I do wanna have fun at uni and not want to rip my hair out 24/7 but I’m hearing the Groningen program is like really stressful and obviously uni will be stressful but I’m not even that smart so if I want to enjoy uni and not fail out my first year, what do you recommend? Groningen looks like so much fun but I’m not trying to be watching the fun from my desk iykwim.

Ik moet van november tot januari weer 10 weken stage lopen voor mijn MBO-opleiding Autotechniek. Ik ben daarom op zoek naar een garage met een beetje een relaxte en normale sfeer. Gewoon een plek waar je rustig kunt werken, dingen kunt leren en waar niet constant stress of druk is.

Mijn vorige stage was bij KwikFit en dat was eerlijk gezegd een behoorlijk slechte ervaring. Er was veel druk om snel te werken en ik had daardoor uiteindelijk veel stress. Het heeft mentaal best veel met me gedaan en ik wil daarom deze keer echt een andere omgeving. Ik wil niet weer in dezelfde situatie terechtkomen.

Ik woon bij het AZC aan de Sint Petersburgweg, dus het liefst zoek ik iets in de buurt. Ik ga met de fiets, dus het liefst niet te ver van mij vandaan.

Hebben jullie ervaring met garages in Groningen waar de sfeer relaxed is en waar ze goed met stagiaires omgaan? Een kleine universele garage lijkt me bijvoorbeeld wel interessant.

Ik zoek vooral een plek waar ik gewoon rustig mijn stage kan doen, mijn werk goed kan leren en niet elke dag met stress naar stage ga.

Hi everyone! I’m a 21 year old Italian student, and I’ll be moving to Groningen for a semester from February to July 2027. I’m currently looking for a room in a shared house/apartment or a student residence, ideally within a budget of 500–800€ per month.

My first option would be SSH, but since I know rooms there are very competitive, I’m also looking for other options, including sublets or short-term rooms.

I’ve already started looking for different student housing websites, but I’ve noticed that many rooms require a minimum stay of one year, which doesn’t really work for me.

I was also wondering about the SSH timeline. From what I’ve read, registration/booking for spring semester usually opens several months in October/November, so I’m a bit worried that if I don’t manage to get an SSH room, I might struggle to find an alternative for February.

Where would you recommend looking for a room or potential roommates?
Are there any Facebook groups, websites, or other platforms that are particularly useful for students looking for a short-term accommodation in Groningen?

I have secured a studio through SSH for Dec and Jan, but at the time of my registration, there were no offers for Nov...

Good day everyone, me and my girlfriend will start our studies in September in Groningen, currently living in different places because finding a place for 2 people at once was a challenge. We both have places to stay at the moment and still for the next 4-8 months but we aim to find something together in this time, any advice where to ask? Excluding hundreds of subscriptions?

The new version lacks so many features that it barely qualifies as a timetable app.

I cannot view my timetable on a calendar, only as a list (tough luck trying to sort out timetable conflicts between courses). I cannot filter for groups. Courses I am enrolled for do not show up automatically, I cannot save them to my account once I've selected them from the dropdown (yes, I can save to google calendar, but I still can't filter for groups for instance, and should the schedule be updated, my google calendar won't follow suit automatically).

The old version had some bugs but it worked just fine, why nuke it?

Does anyone know how to make the site less awful, or if there is a way to revert back to the old website?

Hi! I’m starting my first year of LLB International & European Law at RUG and I’m wondering whether I should sign up for the Buddy Network Law programme.
From what I understand, it pairs Dutch and international law students based on shared interests and involves a group of students throughout September–January, with things like a kick-off, networking lecture and some weekly activities (around 1–2 hours/week).
Has anyone done this before? Is it actually worth signing up for as an international first-year student? I’m mainly wondering whether it’s genuinely useful for meeting people and getting settled in, or if it’s something that I could easily skip without missing much.
Would especially love to hear from people who have participated in it before!
