Back during the 26th Anniversary in 2021, a group of fans got together to promote and push for a re-release of the game, or anything, really. Led by kisato, she helped us get organized as we continued the push with a petition on Change.org. You can read more about the petition in English here (I forgot I wrote the translation there lol) and here.
So, although the petition has long sense closed with 12,168 signatures, kisato made a new update regarding the recent news of the game's return, so I thought maybe you'd like to read her comment.
! I have another big concert to perform in tomorrow (Star Wars: GALACTIC SYMPHONY feat. the world premiere performance of themes from "The Ninth Jedi"), so I can't translate her comment tonight. The following is just a quick MTL with some slight edits:
August 27, 2026
Hello, everyone. It’s been a while! This is kisato.
As some of you may have already heard the news, but “Terranigma” is finally coming to current day systems in 2027!
Rather than a simple digital archive release, this is a port designed for modern hardware.
It’s not just a straight port, either; apparently, it includes improvements, adjustments, and new content.
The official announcement was made by Pixel Arcadia early in the morning on August 25th (Japan time).
Pixel Arcadia is an initiative launched by the UK-based company Pixel Helix Limited; Pixel Helix appears to be a marketing firm specializing in the retro gaming sector.
You could describe Pixel Arcadia as a platform for consolidating and announcing news from manufacturers and publishers known for retro games and revivals.
That’s right! “Terranigma” is being reborn thanks to an overseas developer!
The development is being handled by the Swedish company Clear River Games.
Their philosophy centers on reviving classic games and bringing them to players around the world.
They will handle publishing as well as development.
It is currently in active development, with proper credit given to Square Enix, Quintet, and Kamui Fujiwara!
I was truly surprised by this announcement myself.
A few people have asked me about it, but, despite having led the petition campaign, I am just a fan like the rest of you, and I hadn't heard a word about it from Kamui Fujiwara or the others beforehand.
After the announcement, the excitement was so intense that “Terranigma” started trending on Twitter, and I’ve received messages of thanks from so many people... I feel like I’ve been able to repay the debt of gratitude I owed to the creators, character designer Kamui Fujiwara, sound creators Masanori Hikichi and Miyoko Kobayashi, and the entire development team—for bringing “Terranigma” into the world.
I also want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who participated in the petition campaign, as well as to all the “Terranigma” fans who kept their passion alive and continued to show their support long after the campaign ended.
I am truly happy that “Terranigma” will be preserved for future generations.
