Did you prefer The Drama or The Invite?
Wish that The Drama released in the Summer / Fall.
I liked the first 60 minutes of The Invite, but then it got overly repetitive and all of the characters felt extremely obnoxious (though I can overlook it for Edward Norton).

Discussion Sound of Sliver - How Fast can you name that score?
You get ten songs, each starting as a 300-millisecond sliver. Today's theme is 70s film scores, so you're picking the movie instead of the song. Each round also asks who composed it. Very Ringer coded.
If you like it there's Big Picture 1 and Big Picture 2 in there too, both soundtracks:
- 80s soundtrack (sliver #30, "Pop Soundtrack Bops"): https://soundofsliver.com/30
- 90s soundtrack (sliver #24, "Soundtrack 90s"): https://soundofsliver.com/24

Unexpected Back to Back That Worked
I have the house to myself this week and that's when I do a lot of rewatches and last night I was craving Zodiac. I started it up pretty late so finished it even later - yet, I still wasn't ready to turn in. So went on a random streaming service and cued up something I hadn't seen in a while: The Martian.
I was happy to dig into it, but was thrown for a loop by how sacchrine it seemed in the wake of Zodiac. There was a sort of bleakness to it, though, about the resolve of one man and his sheer persistence. The devotion to process and detail also had some stark similarities. Overall, I was left feeling they were quite complementary and The Martian's wholesomeness was what I needed as a come down from Fincher's didactic reprimand of ambition and all-consuming obsession.
Are there any intentional or unintentional back to backs that don't seem to go together, but the feeling you got from seeing them together suited?
Thanks in advance for the discussion!

Misc. August 2026 Theater Diary Sketches
Howdy!
8 months down, 4 more to go in this year long project! Here are doodles based on all the films I saw this month in theaters. A couple big swings, a couple misses, a few all time favorites and just an all around fun month for movies. (It was not planned, but August ended up being a vey sex positive and summer camp heavy collection of movies which was interesting.)
The last doodle is an actual picture from a case I had a couple of years ago repurposed for this art project - the reason why there are two versions of it are because I can’t decide which one I like better (the stark live action & cartoon contrast vs. black and white documentary feeling) - so let me know which one you like better.
As always, I’m happy to talk these movies, to talk about the doodles and interested in what you think is worth checking out next month!

Are Timothee and Zendaya the only "young" box office draws?
I would have considered Elordi up there but after the dog stars, are these 2 the only ones that you can surely bank on?
EDIT: I'm talking about as leading roles

Who on here will be in Telluride this weekend?
Great to meet and hang out in line and see movies with other listeners last year. Looking forward to doing it again this week.
