6.8 MILLION!!!

If you all were watching the live twitch,Ryan Copple said he would set himself on fire if it hit 6.8M. The twitch stream went offline before the final number was confirmed.

I hope he does it, of course in the safe stunt gear. It seems like it’s definitely a possibility as he replied to my comment on the kick starter page. I’m so excited and I hope to get some of the add-ons I initially wanted, later. I got the game night bundle. I’m curious about what some of you got, if anyone wants to share!

Is Amy just being in character or is she really not into it? I haven’t wanted to ask but I haven’t seen a lot of people talk about it.

THE ON SET BUNDLE [Chance to Back]

Hello Guildies!

I am going to have to give up my On Set Bundle before the KS ends tomorrow. The team can't confirm a timeline window for filming and I'm on another continent from mid Sep - mid Oct which is when most Ren Faire's are held.

I'm pretty devastated as I was really looking forward to this opportunity, but I don't want it to go to waste. I assume once I switch to a different pledge this one will be available for someone else to grab up. So basically just here to give a heads up to look out for it if it's something you're interested in but it was sold out when you last checked =D

Interview: Felicia Day is reviving ‘The Guild’ with a Ren Faire twist thanks to a $5-million Kickstarter

In 2007, the actor Felicia Day debuted “The Guild,” one of the first works, maybe the first, to demonstrate that the web could be a legitimate platform for full-blown, character-driven, narrative comedy. (YouTube was only two years old at the time.)

Online since there was a line to be on, Day — also known also for “Supernatural,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Eureka,” “Mystery Science Theater 3000” and as the female lead in Joss Whedon’s “Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” alongside Neil Patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion — played Cyd, a.k.a. Codex, a young woman at loose ends who finds community with a group of gamers whose quirkiness puts her own into perspective. The series, which she created and wrote, from experience, grew more ambitious and technically impressive across its six seasons, with cameos by the likes of Fillion, Zachary Levi, Stan Lee, Brent Spiner, late Mythbuster Grant Imahara and Wil Wheaton. There was a cultural specificity to the setting and storytelling — lots of gaming jargon and jokes — but the humor in the characters was universal, and the show, for all its well-proportioned silliness, felt very alive.

Now, as the series’ 20th anniversary approaches, Day is reviving “The Guild” as a feature, “The Guild: Ren Faire’d,” through a Kickstarter campaign due to end Friday.

The Times’ Robert Lloyd recently caught up with Day over email to talk about “The Guild’ and more.

Kickstarter stats for nerds

I don't know if there are any nerds out here (😁), but I'm definitely one.

Did a little back of the envelope stats on the Kickstarter backing distribution. A couple of observations:

  • Overall, the backer frequency follows a log-log relationship with the pledge value. This is not unexpected, and behavior like this shows up in wealth distribution and distributions of earthquake strengths. I'm going to attribute this more to wealth distribution and willingness to spend among the Guild fanbase
  • Overall model: backers ~ value^(-0.88). To make things easier, it would be justified to state backers ~ 1 / value. The model explain 89% of the variation.
  • The $330 pledge package (The Everything Bundle) exceeded the trend by a lot. It was as popular as you'd expect a package of ~1/6th its value should be.
  • The $45 package (TTRPG + Add-ons) and $50 package (POOPCORN BUCKET + Add-ons) came in a little short of expectations. They were about as popular as a package of 5x their value.
  • When considering the model without these three outliers, it gets even better. It explains 97% of variation - which is pretty awesome given people-driven data where sometimes 70% is considered the gold standard.

Can't wait until the movie comes out next year!

FYI: Kickstarter Add-Ons

Very brief FYI for those (like me) that don't have a ton of disposable income but want a specific reward item: the initial tier on the kickstarter for $20 allows you to (essentially) add any other reward. I just wanted the movie + original series on Blu-Ray (+$50) which came to $70.

The Guild: Movie kickstarter launch date - July 20

"Hollywood didn’t really get what we were about, so I built the show myself. We made six seasons because our community proved there was an audience for it. With the twentieth anniversary approaching, we get to do it again: prove the studios wrong and have a blast doing it!" Felicia Day

Where can I watch the early seasons of The Guild at a definition above 360p?

When I last watched The Guild in 2024, someone had uploaded 90 minute videos of each season which were also higher definition than the original uploads on The Guild's YouTube channel. But now these seem to have gone from YouTube.

Cast Autographs!

Post image
9 Upvotes

Currently moving houses and found this in a drawer, thought it would be fun to share with other fans. This was during San Diego Comic Con, I think 2016 or 2017 but not 100% sure. At the time I was broke out of high school (I'm 28 now), so I couldn't afford the high price for an "official autograph poster" and I was simply working for a vendor. I explained this to the person managing the line and they let me use whatever I had for an autograph! At the time, the best thing I had was the giant booklet you get for free when entering comic con and this was the back of it. Being able to meet the main cast and have a small conversation with Felicia Day truly left a positive impact on me and I thought it would be cool to share in hopes of keeping the memory of this series alive. I still watch it once a year! I'm still so grateful for how kind they all were to me.

Didn't realize I had seen The Guild

I just finished what I didn't realize was my second viewing of The Guild. I didn't know about the show while it was current, but some time within the last decade (I think), I apparently watched it all.

5 months ago, someone suggested I finish The Guild. I didn't think I watched all 6 seasons because of how short the episodes are.

So the series finale ends not long before I need to go to bed and now I can't sleep. Naturally, I find myself on Reddit.

I'm not thrilled with how it ended, but I enjoyed the show overall. Clara and her husband are worse off with him unable to get his job back and a fourth child on the way. The other characters are basically back to where they were at the beginning, except Zaboo isn't obsessed with Codex anymore. There's so little character development, imo.

But the show was so much fun. The Game they played was clearly WoW, I was surprised to see Mike Morhaime on screen in a short clearly labeled with the WoW logo.
