It certainly is a shocking comparison of timing.

In the 1990s, people who were young adults, with late-20s being a debatable part of that category, all had their edgy products. Sporty cars, Sega Genesis game consoles and it's games which had their edge advertisements, and gaming computers with full-color video, and etc.

now, those people who had their experience with those products, are nearing their 60s in the 2020s decade.

20-something year olds are sometimes young parents with kids who aren't quite in high school yet, and now, 60-something year olds can sometimes be grandparents with kids who are now in college or even graduated there, or even great-grandparents with great-grandchildren who are infants, or in extreme cases, great-grandparents who even have great-grandchildren who are now in high school.

Generations just keep changing, whether it be the age of people, or the products of eras, or fads, or even politics for that matter.

I remember seeing a South Park episode called Hell On Earth 2006, where three notorious serial killers Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and John Wayne Gacy were presented as a parody of The Three Stooges, so which is what convinced me that Bundy, Dahmer, and Gacy were considered "the big three" of the most notorious serial killers, arguably, in the history of crime.

So, here's some timing I learned about:

1978: Ted Bundy gets arrested, and is also the year of Jeffrey Dahmer's first victim.

1994: Jeffrey Dahmer and John Wayne Gacy passed away that same year.

well, there was some semi-coincidental timing regarding unfortunate events with "the big three" of these serial killers.

edit: I just found out that 1978 was also the year John Wayne Gacy got arrested as well.

I gotta say, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City came out in the year 2002, and that would have been 22 years after the year 1980 started, and now, it's been almost 24 years since GTA: Vice City came out.

I can certainly say that even GTA: Vice City itself can now be considered "2000s nostalgia". So, basically, that's nostalgia-within-nostalgia, which really adds to the nostalgia of it.

GTA: Vice City helped give a 1980s-type vibe to people who were either less than 10 years old before the year 1990, or weren't even born until 1990 of later. Personally, I was just an infant during the 1980s, so I didn't have a full frame of reference on what it's culture was like, but I did have some memories of exposure to secondhand 1980s products since I was old enough to talk, as well as exposure to a few 1980s songs which occasionally played on the radio during the 1990s, of which I thought were "new" during the 1990s at first because of how "hi-tech" or "futuristic" they sounded.

Another way I got some 1980s-type vibes when I was a kid, was that I saw lots of old 1980s cars on the road, even as late as the early 2000s, when my high school peers had some old 1980s cars as their first cars, although some felt more beat up, than brand new, but at least it established a frame of reference on what cars were like in the 1980s.

Now, during the 2000s, when GTA: Vice City came out, I was also listening to lots of old 80s music as that was a time when 80s nostalgia was starting, and also an era when "new wave" started to become "retro-active". But, when I started to play GTA: Vice City, it really gave me this vibe like I was living in the 80s, so at least I could experience a fictionalized version of a decade I was too young to remember concretely. So that's the effect nostalgia can have.

So I thought I'd make this time scale comparison, as future generations might play future remastered versions of GTA: Vice City, and other 80s-themed video games for their "80s vibe", even 20 years or more after the 2000s.

The legacy of old decades will be preserved through media which uses it as a theme.

So when I have nostalgia for older things, I brainstorm ways to express it, and well, time scale comparisons are one way to do so.

now, regarding the Altair 8800, well, that product was the first "personal computer" that came out, yup, back in the 1970s. It preceded the Apple II, and Commodore, and especially preceded the IBM PC, and that the IBM PC was the one which maintained x86/DOS compatibility for many years to come as it had it's changes over the years, and DOS evolved into Windows, and Populous came out for Windows, so naturally, I wanted to compare something.

but, the Altair 8800 was the personal computer which first started the genre of products that IBM PC would be part of less than 10 years after that, so I also wanted to see if products which were even older than the IBM PC could be compared, so what do ya know, time has passed by for hardware and software alike.

The Dodge Aries and the near-identical Plymouth Reliant K-cars got discontinued in 1990, one year after 1989, the final model year.

While Ford's Edsel started production in 1956, and that was 33 years ago!

And well, both car models and/or makes had some questionable reputation of quality or reliability issues, so I thought maybe I'd compare them.

The ironic thing about the Aries/Reliant K cars, is that even though lots of them got sold, lots of them, maybe 95% of them, also ended up in the junkyard by the time the Dodge Caliber came out, so that tells us that they weren't exactly durable, or the most reliable models out there.

as with Ford's Edsel, well, that one had it's issues with bad quirks, as it's reason for having a bad reputation.

while I was typing this time scale comparison report, I also thought about making one about the Ford Pinto, and AMC Pacer, and both models had their own issues and quirks too.

The movie actually, but fictionally started sometime in the mid-1800s, where somebody named Benjamin helps bury a board game, but the year 1969, in the story is when a kid named Alan Parrish rolls the dice for the first move of the game, which was the starter for the wild events of the movie. Most of the movie took place in the year 1995, which would have been 26 years after 1969, when Alan got sucked into the board game after the message "in the jungle you must wait, till the dice reads 5 or 8." popped up.

This movie is a classic, so I thought maybe I'd make a time scale comparison since 2024 is actually 29 years after 1995, so it seems like a few more years have passed going forward.

2020 - 1973 = 47

1973 - 1930 = 43

2020 was the beginning of all these COVID restrictions, while 1930 was debatably the beginning of The Great Depression in America.

So basically, 2020 is 47 years away from 1973, and 1973 is 43 years away from 1930.

The 1970s was a OIL CRISIS depression, while the 2020s was basically the COVID depression. Some now think that the COVID era is worse than the Great Depression Era. While the OIL CRISIS may have been some epic INTERLUDE between depression eras which were decades apart.

Howard Rollins passed away in 1996, one year after the series finale of the TV series (1988-1995). In addition to that, that would also be 29 years after the movie of the same name came out.

Sidney Poitier passed away in 2022, 26 years after Rollins passed away. He played Virgil Tibbs in the movie In The Heat Of The Night from 1967.

I came up with this idea for posting in /r/TimeScaleComparisons, because it reached 290 SUBSCRIBERS, so naturally, I wanted to celebrate by making posts mentioning a celebrity, or somebody famous enough to have their own Wikipedia article, who had October 17th as a birthday, and that October 17th is the 290th day of the year, if you exclude leap years.

2002 was only 12 years after the year 1990, with major change in music sound.

but 2024 is 22 years after 2002, and yet, music feels virtually identical.

So, 1990 is closer to 2002.

hmmmmmm.....

but just in general, music from the 2000s and later wasn't really my cup of tea, and well, not only is newer music from the 2020s on CHANNEL 955 so similar to the majority of hit music from the 2000s decade, but they still play a few occasional repeats of pop and R&B from the early 2000s, and places in between.

Just thought I'd make this time scale comparison to call out how stale the FM radio music market is with the hit music of the "modern" day.

x86 dominates the market of processors for Windows (and formerly DOS) PC computers, even though ARM seems to dominate Android smartphones.

I forget which show it was, it coulda been Pepper Ann, or Detention, or maybe Recess, or one of those shows, I forget which one specifically, but I just know it was from a One Saturday Morning, or One Too Disney cartoon from ABC.

So some lady driving said "I like to listen to the oldies", and some younger female character in the car said "well, I kinda like the newies".

well, those "newies" are now oldies too, but the oldies described by the older lady driving the car are now considered the Older Oldies LOL.

fast forward to 2024, 25 year time difference (actually 24 since the later part of 1999 is when Dreamcast came out).

There are a few reasons to mention Atari and Sega in the same sentence. Well, The Sega Genesis, a past product by Sega had compatible controller parts, and there was even some proposal for Atari to market the Genesis, or something like that, according to Wikipedia.
