(loved trope) Trans characters who do not/cannot pass but everyone still respects their identity

• Lev from The Last of Us Part II: Lev is a trans boy who cannot medically transition due to being in a zombie apocalypse with a fascist government, yet the main cast in the story supports and affirms him as male.
• Denise Bryson from Twin Peaks: A trans woman DEA and FBI agent. She does not pass in the series, which is an integral part of her character; her boss simply tells people who don't like it to "fix their hearts or die."
• Cordelia from Vinland Saga: As a trans woman living in Northern Europe during the Viking age, it is impossible for Cordelia, who has a hulking, muscular figure, to transition to female. But despite not looking the part physically, everyone is cool with it and refers to her as female.
• Ladiva from Granblue Fantasy: A pro wrestler who makes no attempts to pass (save for hair) and is still beloved by the cast as a maternal figure, serving as a stark contrast to her species' women who are petite.

To me this is a kind of an Idea from family guy situation. The joke with Doris was very clearly "she's so ugly she looks like a man" but then realized that's pretty uncouth and made her one of the girls

That's not true though? In the first episode she's in we have the infamous puke scene, but every subsequent episode she's in is nothing but supportive. Brian's treatment and reactions to her also get cast as Brian being in the wrong, not that Ida is worthy of ridicule. They also recast her voice as transgender actress Jamie Clayton.

Was Lois being supportive when she told Ida she could "use the backyard" when she asked where the bathroom was?

Was Stewie being supportive when he said "Brian threw up after having sex with you because you're a monster"?

Was Brian being supportive when he screamed "You still have bits of penis left" because the Family Guy writers couldn't even be bothered to Google what bottom surgery is?

And speaking of the writers, are they being supportive when they use Ida to complain about how much they hate trans people? "You can't watch porn on your phone here" "Oh, I'm transgender" "Oh, then please, do whatever you want, all the time"

They meant the writing of the show not the characters. Ida has always been a good paragon type person. That was sort of the whole point, everyone point and laugh at the freak but actually the freak is just way better than the jeerers.

Yes the joke is haha you fucked quagmires dad. But the character itself is a accomplished admiral or something and intelligent and intentionally made to be “good” to make it seem less like punching down.

I see where you're coming from but in every instance of her appearance in the show Ida is perfectly kind and sweet and a good person with everyone being horrible to her. Some of the jokes are definitely offensive but i don't think the intent is really to portray trans people in a bad light, more like the people are being horrible to her because she's trans and thats presented as a bad thing

I think it's a really great twist honestly because the low hanging fruit is "let's all laugh at how ugly they are" and aside from the one shock reaction everyone just accepts her and gets on with it.

Not making the crude joke makes them a fun character
