First post in this sub. Just wanted to share this thing my 14 y/o cat does. I swear, rolling around on the sidewalk is his favourite pastime, especially when it’s sunny out. Any other Tuxies do this? I would love to know!

Yes, Domino has become rather rotund now that he’s in his senior years. He cries when his food dish is empty, and it just breaks my heart. We just want him to be happy and healthy.

I am open to any suggestions regarding maintaining a healthy weight for him. Obviously, limiting how much he eats is the first step, even though it’s hard to see him upset. He only eats dry food, is there a specific brand or variety that would be ideal for Domino’s age/size? Thanks!

I adopted him as a kitten with the name β€œTux” and changed it to Mr.T. He lived with 4 dogs, 8 cats, many guinea pigs, throughout his life. He lives in 2 different states and went on a lot of RV camping trips. I miss him already πŸ–€

πŸ‘‘ Senior Tuxie πŸ‘‘ AirTag/tracker PSA!

Long novel ahead...

This is Bindi; she is 18-19 years old, deaf, going blind, and might also have a touch of kitty dementia. I posted her on this sub recently, and it got thousands of upvotes. Last night she slipped outside through the dog door, which didnβ€˜t worry me at first since I thought the yard was escape-proof. Around 3am I realized I hadn't seen her, so I checked the AirTag and it said she was a couple blocks away, near a heavily wooded area. And it hadn't pinged for over an hour.

I drove around for a bit looking for her, but it was impossible in the woods at night. So I went home defeated, assuming we'd be on a recovery mission the following day. Then the AirTag pinged that it was moving... now I figure she's probably in the mouth of a predator, but I can't just let her be carried off like that. So I once again go driving around, and this time it pinpoints her nearly half a mile away.

Driving, looking, omg THERE SHE IS! Just slowly meandering up the road, moving the opposite direction of our house. I quickly pulled over, jumped out, and grabbed her. She was like "whoah, who... oh hi mom!" I can't even tell you my relief, I just squeezed her and said "I thought you were dead, I love you so much." This is why she wears the AirTag, and why I say it's especially important for indoor-only & elderly/disabled cats. I probably never would have found her otherwise, and being deaf she couldn't hear me or anyone else calling. Let alone the sound of a car or predator.

Next step, finally installing that microchip-activated dog door I bought for $800 like 3 months ago. ADHD FTW. Anyway, hug your kitties tight and use a tracker!! I use a live GPS (Fi) for my huskies, but for the cats the AirTag is a better size and battery life. Once you learn how they work, they're still better than nothing.

She was 10 when I adopted her, it was love at first sight. She was my baby for 2 years before she passed peacefully in her sleep. Far too young, and I still miss her. I still tell my current kitties stories about their big sister.

I just wanted the world to see her.

Edit: Thank you all for the kind words and photos of your babies! It warms my heart! Please keep sharing!

The anticipatory grief I have for when he will one day pass is very real and very hard to carry. He is healthy, loves pets, eats heartily, and gives professional snuggles. He also loves chaperoning me while I do chores such as the dishes. Anytime he sees me, he walks as fast as his old legs will carry him, meowing at me until my hand makes contact with his fur. I love him dearly

πŸ‘‘ Senior Tuxie πŸ‘‘ 12yo love of my life was held for ransom by a family friend

This is Susie, and she has been with me for her entire life. Last year, I went through a series of traumatic events that caused me to have to immediately move across the country. I had to place my cat Susie and her sister Sheriff Callie in the hands of a family friend while I restabilized myself and my kids.

This friend and I had an agreement that she would care for my cats while this was happening and that we would make arrangements to get them back home to me. I gave her money, asked for updates, and told her if anything were to happen to either of them that we would go to the vet and I would cover costs and then some.

During this time, Sheriff Callie became ill and passed away, without me by her side and leaving my Susie without her sister. From the info I have, she cuddled up to family friend and stopped breathing in her sleep. This is when the family friend stopped responding to my messages. Back in June of 2025. My heart broke for not only the loss of Sheriff Callie, but that I couldn't be there for Susie while she grieved.

There is good news though!

My dad (who, at the time, couldn't care for Susie) was able to locate this family friend and get in contact. She had moved a couple times and was going through a divorce that none of us knew about. Anyways, family friend profusely apologized about shutting me out after my dad was able to find and confront her and then claimed that I never offered her money for Susie (blatant lie and my bestie and I have proof of many contact attempts). I ended up paying her to get her back.

My dad now has my Susie and is flying home to me on May 1st! This is a lesson to microchip because I never thought to, as Susie never left my side a day in her life and has never been outside. She will never leave me again! My love is coming home!!! And the family friend has been blocked on all fronts.

πŸ‘‘ Senior Tuxie πŸ‘‘ Update: Tiny boy has fatty lipidosis

Post image

I posted a few days ago for tots and pears for Tiny. At the time, we didn’t know for sure what was wrong but he had an ultrasound on Friday and I got a call yesterday that it’s fatty lipidosis. He was 22 lbs and rapidly lost 10lbs. He’s currently jaundice, doesn’t want to eat and turns his nose away when we offer him anything. For a big boy, he loved treats and ate his fair share. Never a table food kinda boy though.

My child was 2 when we saved him. My child named him because they couldn’t say much and we just called him tiny kitty as an 8 week old. It stuck and he was the biggest cat I have ever had.

Unfortunately, after looking into what’s next, the treatments, possible outcomes and cost, I don’t think that my family can afford to *try* what’s next when the outcome doesn’t seem promising. I do think we will need to say our goodbyes. He’s only 11 and he’s my kid’s cat so this is absolutely breaking my heart. I’m absolutely crushed and my kid hasn’t necessarily shed a tear yet and I am not looking forward to tomorrow or after.

If you read this far, thank you.

Please ignore my messy room. He sounds mad but he's just annoyed with me bc I have a migraine instead of being able to properly play/wrestle with him when he's in the mood πŸ˜‚ people are always shocked when I say how old he is becuase he legit still has the energy and play style of a much younger cat. Are any of your Tuxedos still this playful?

πŸ‘‘ Senior Tuxie πŸ‘‘ Bindi’s had a rough week!

UPDATE: The vet called, and said her blood work looks amazing! Nothing of immediate concern, just the usual stuff you see in elderly cats. Even those were better than average, so we'll just keep an eye on her general behavior and health for now. The wobbling/falling was probably just due to stress + exhaustion from her adventure, and maybe a little from her arthritis.

Following Bindi’s big adventure (you can read about that in my previous post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/TuxedoCats/s/ccc0tewJTH) the other night, she was acting weird… extremely tired, wobbly, actually fell over a few times. So I called out from work today, and took her to the vet.

They actually said she wasn’t THAT bad, considering her advanced age (18 1/2) and so forth. But the stumbling is a sign of vascular issues, and they were worried she might have a stroke. So they gave her something to lower her blood pressure, along with an injection for arthritis and Gabapentin for pain/stress. They also ran a full geriatric blood panel + urine, and we’ll have the results tomorrow.

I made it clear that I won’t subject her to anything extreme, but they said this was the β€œminimum” recommended; and she still has some life left in her! $1200 bill, though. Ouch. 😬

Edit: it is bad news πŸ˜”

We're worried for our cheeky boy. He's 11. He's had digestive trouble all his life but it was manageable, but he got a whole lot worse over the past couple of months. He's not eating his prescription food, and he's sleeping all day. He's in hospital for the day to get fluids and run tests. He's very lethargic and thin. We're afraid that there'll be bad news, or that his IBD is just really severe and won't let up.

Please ask your kitties to send him tuxie mojo πŸ–€πŸ€ and send his humans some mojo too 🩷

This is my sweet baby, Tippy. She’s the first cat I have ever gotten. About 7 years ago she randomly came up to our house at the same time each day for some food. She never hissed, growled, or shown any signs of aggression, just nervousness. She definitely was either abandoned or escaped from whenever she came from, but I’m so blessed she came into my life. She’s extremely sweet, clingy, talkative, and walks with me and hangs out with me in the garden. When we took her to the vets for overall wellness exam she had an x-ray with a BB gun pellet. People are fucking cruel and I absolutely believed she ran away.

I promised her she’d have the absolute most loving and happiest days until the end while she’s with me and since then it’s been amazing. She understands me so well and is so gentle, calm, and laid back. Loves to hang out with you whether you’re reading a book, watching tv, or planting in the garden, she will join you.

This is my guy, Gus. He was born into a litter of 15 kittens, and was a bottle baby! He’s an indoor kitty who likes to go outside sometimes to eat grass and imagine he could kill a bird, if he really wanted to. He likes belly rubs, treats, babies, and going on car rides but his fave thing to do is snuggle Mom (me)
