Question/Discussion Organic chem help

www.organicchemistrytutoring.ca

Hello guys and gals,

We’re Brian and Mike and we teach general and organic chemistry. We’ve done so for a total combined time of 47 years! Overwhelmed by general or organic chemistry? Assignments and tests creeping up on you and feeling like you’re in hot water? Or maybe you’re doing well and need that 95%? Whatever your struggle with chemistry may be, we’re here to make sure you succeed.

Why work with us?

- Every tutor knows the subject, but not every tutor knows how to transfer that knowledge to a student. We do.

- We tutor chemistry full time; it’s not a hobby or side-gig. When you book with us, you’ll be working with Brian for general chemistry and Mike for organic chemistry. This is not an agency and you won’t be matched with random tutors each time.

- You’ll be learning problem solving through chemistry, which you can apply to many other subjects.

- Your learning will be customized to your specific needs.

Before booking a lesson, let’s chat about your needs, our teaching styles, and what you can expect, to see if we’d be a good fit together.

Thank you for your time and we look forward to working with you!

Mike and Brian

Question/Discussion Friends

How are you guys making friends? I try to be social but it feels like all the pretty girls already have solid friend groups and all the guys assume i’m flirting. Most people either came with friends or made friends during orientation and nevadafit. I have made maybe 3 friends since school started and see everyone posted up with big groups. Give me some advice please, How???

Question/Discussion [Reno/UNR] First-year CS PhD student looking for friends, study buddies, and people to build projects with

Hi everyone!

I’m a first-year PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), and I’m an international student from China. My current research area is cybersecurity, but I’m also still learning many areas of computer science.

Before starting my PhD, I didn’t have a formal background in Data Structures or Operating Systems, so I’m learning a lot of these fundamentals from the ground up. I’m very much a beginner in some areas, and I’m completely okay with that. I believe that learning together is one of the best ways to improve.

I’m posting here because I’d really like to meet more people in Reno who are interested in computer science, cybersecurity, technology, research, or just building cool things.

High school students, TMCC students, UNR undergraduate students, graduate students, and anyone else who is interested are all welcome! You absolutely do not need to be an expert or even a CS major. If you’re curious about computers or cybersecurity, feel free to reach out and come say hi.

Maybe we could:

  • Study computer science together
  • Learn Data Structures, Operating Systems, networking, or cybersecurity
  • Discuss research ideas
  • Work on cybersecurity or programming projects
  • Participate in CTFs or cybersecurity competitions
  • Join hackathons
  • Do Kaggle or data science projects
  • Participate in programming or mathematical competitions
  • Build open-source projects
  • Find interesting projects and learn by doing
  • Or simply grab some coffee and talk about technology, school, research, or life(I just bought a coffee machine for my home; you're welcome to come over anytime for Starbucks coffee.)

I’ve participated in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM) in the U.S. before, and I’ve also spent some time doing Kaggle projects. I really enjoy experimenting with things, trying new technologies, and learning by building.

I also want to be honest that I’m still learning myself. There are many things I don’t know, but if you’re interested in something, I’m happy to learn it together with you. I’m not looking for anything paid or formal. I’d simply like to find people who are willing to share knowledge, help each other, and work on interesting things together.

I’m also relatively new to the U.S. and don’t have many friends here yet, so I’d genuinely love to meet some good people and hopefully make some real friendships along the way.

One of my long-term goals is to become the kind of professor and mentor who can help more and more people discover cybersecurity, understand it, and develop an interest in it. I’m very grateful to my advisor for giving me the opportunity to study and do research in this field, and I hope that someday I can give that same kind of support and encouragement to others.

So if you’re a high school student who is curious about cybersecurity, a TMCC student exploring computer science, an undergraduate trying to learn something new, a graduate student looking for collaborators, or simply someone who likes computers and wants to meet other people with similar interests — please feel free to reach out!

My email is [zedongz@unr.edu](mailto:zedongz@unr.edu).

You can email me anytime. Even if you just want to ask a question, exchange ideas, or say hello, that's totally fine.

I’d be really happy to meet you. Hopefully we can learn something together, build something together, and maybe become good friends along the way. :)

Question/Discussion Accelerated BSN Program/Nursing Questions

Hi! I’m a recent graduate from UNR and wanted to know more about the accelerated BSN program. It states the application requirements but doesn’t list what the 15-16 month timeline looks like once you’re in.

Also, if anyone has gone through UNR nursing in general, let me know anything you think I should before moving towards this! Thank you!

Question/Discussion Campus is huge!

Is anyone else secretly dying with all the walking. From the South walking North, it’s all an incline too. I thought I was in shape but wow…I’m so embarrassed being slow and lowkey out of breath while everyone else is walking fast and easily around me. Please tell me I’m not the only one, I feel dumb. At least it’ll help me get back into shape lol

Question/Discussion Do American students get health insurance for their own teeth?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I've been looking into dental insurance at the University of Nevada, Reno lately. Since I'm an international student, my teeth are usually pretty good, but I'm still worried about any potential issues. I noticed that dental fillings and extractions here in the US can be pretty expensive. I was wondering how dental insurance works at UNR? Do locals get dental insurance for themselves? The annual cost is around $700, which I think is pretty reasonable for me.

Question/Discussion Improper Withdrawals

I wanted to see if anyone has had any success with improper withdrawals getting approved, and if so any advice. Completed all the checklists needed on paper but still needed "more evidence" (had submitted legit doctors notes, medications, etc.) Just seems like they want more than what they say and I am a little stumped right now. Have also consulted with McMullen in the dean of students office and the psychiatrist and everything seems like it should have been approved so double stumped lol.

Rant AI lectures

I believe that the lectures for one of my classes is being made using AI audio narrations. The voice is slightly robotic. There’s also a man who I believe is AI on the screen narrating it. I’m not 100% sure tho. One of my other classes admitted to using AI narration. Is anyone else experiencing this? I think it’s insane that our tuition is thousands of dollars and the instructors can’t even make their own videos.

Question/Discussion KIN 361 Yosemite Trip

Hey! I was just wondering if anyone that has taken KIN 361 with Anderson and Spevak could provide me with some insight into the Yosemite trip. I just want to know how difficult of a hike it is and like what time you left and got back. I am not an outdoorsy person by any means not because I hate them, I am just prone to injury, specifically ankle sprains. Was the terrain of the hike really bad and hard or would you say it is a good beginner hike. Also how does it work do they assign you a group so you don’t get left behind and they mentioned not having to do the whole hike but if I’m going to have to turn around myself to not finish the hike I’m not doing that. It seems like a really cool experience to have but an 8 mile hike seems kinda crazy for my first experience hiking. I just want to know if it’s bad enough that taking the loss and reading the book and answering the extra exam questions for the alternate assignment is worth it. Please if anyone could help that would be great. I’m a little desperate to know as it falls three weeks after class starts. If it was a little later and I had time to train and prepare I would feel less nervous but it feels a little sudden.

Question/Discussion Parking Near Campus

Hello everyone! I recently rented an apartment near the university, but I am unable to find any legal parking options nearby, as permits are not issued for the streets where I live. I’m looking for a place to park overnight without the risk of a ticket or towing, whether it's a free option or a paid. The only location I considered is Circus Circus, but they enforce a 48-hour parking rule, which means I could get towed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Housing studio sublet available asap - furnished - midtown

Due to an unexpected death in the family I want to move back home from Reno. My lease expires in 6 months - willing to take subletters for less than the whole term.

2.6 miles from UNR, studio loft, nicely furnished with a queen bed. Will consider small (quiet) pets with extra deposit. Garage will fit up to mid-size SUV (think Tiguan) or can come with one uncovered but reserved spot.

$1500 all utilities inc fiber internet

no TV streaming included but I do have a nice 65" Samsung mounted with Sonos speakers

No smoking property - eg not on the balcony or otherwise

650 sq ft, feels bigger because of the loft. Really nice, quiet, gated community.

DM for pics
