My Journey so far
Just wanted to share my experiences starting the hobby. I probably spent half a year researching and watching YouTube videos on 40k lore, painting tutorials and best practices in the hobby. You could say that I wasn't a true newbie, but watching hours of painting videos will never replace the experience of putting a brush to a mini for the first time.
I finally took the plunge and picked up a box of marines at my trusty gaming store. Kinda kicking myself as I see there is a new release for intercessors, but oh well. I'm thankful that I started this hobby as an adult; aside from the astronomical prices of miniatures, getting all the "best" tools took a chunk out of my wallet as well.
I mainly followed 'eavy metal tutorials. Never new how frustrating it was to paint thin straight lines. The one thing I'm struggling with is paint consistency.
Somewhere during the painting process, I was not having fun (probably because I set my standards too high). But near the end when the model was near "completion", I was gawking at how good my models looked. I know my paint job isn't the best, but I'm happy with them.
Any tips would be helpful.

Come with me back in time...to 1994!
Decided to retro paint and intercessor and I like the way it turned out so much the nostalgia hits HARD. So I'm going to paint a whole 1.5-2k army in this scheme. Thanks for looking opinions welcome.

Painting Lt Titus Repaint
Lt Titus was my first mini I painted in January 2025 and I recently stripped him and tried again. I bought the space marine 2 board game expecting the minis to be painted lol… and that’s how I got started.

One Mini a Day for the Last Two Months, From a Very Slow Painter
So my goal for the last two months was to finish at least one mini a day. I batch primed and base coated a bunch of them together, and then tried my best to average at least one fully painted and based mini a day.
Some days I painted two, other days I took a break, but overall I’m really happy with how much I got done. It was a fun little goal to have and I’m pretty damn happy to get all these bois added to my Ultramarines army.
Most of these, aside from the Marines from the Armageddon box set, are eBay rescues from various plastic death piles. Some were missing pieces or had broken parts, so I had to do some kitbashing and improvising to get them back together.
I’m definitely a slow painter, so I figured I’d try to make up for it with willpower and just grinding my way through the pile of shame.
For Ultramar and the Emperor! 🤓🫡

Ultramarine kitbash
Had this little fella in my mini Harvard or my bit bowl for like 4 years or so and I had pulled him out to put him together for my older brother as a gift. Head is MK 3 torso is one from an aggressor model from the 40k combat patrol and the legs are mk6 Corvus.

Did you know about the chaotic Sons of Guilliman? The Adharon's Reavers
"Adharon's Reavers are a warband of Heretic Astartes who operate as a small renegade corsair group under the former Sons of Guilliman Captain Adharon."

40K Pauldron Variant Question
Does anyone know the significance of the little rectangle on Pauldron 50? I've seen them on other Pauldrons as well and was wondering if they signify some type of rank, are they used for something in lore or are they just a unique variant?
- edit * Thanks for the replies everyone!

List advice (40k) First game 1000pts list advice
Hi guys,
Long time painter and collector however I've never actually played a game of 40k. I've decided to pull the trigger and finally start playing 11th 🤗
There's a guy at work who plays nids and were going to have a few low point games to get me started. I've been learning the rules and messed about a bit on my own but I was wondering if you guys could give me a few ideas for a beginner friendly 1000pt list. As I said, I've been collecting for a while so I've pretty much got most models. Any pointers would be most welcome.
Courage and honor

40K We're getting a PLASTIC THUNDERHAWK!!
Well, sort of... RIP 🪦
Giving it to us as a TERRAIN piece Thunderhawk that's completely destroyed just after they move every single aircraft/flyer we have to legends is diabolical..
