Freshers Event Worry

Hey! I’m an incoming first year and really want to participate in the freshers events I’m commuting but I drive and only live 20 minutes away so it’s not a problem. However I do want to go to at least one of the clubbing nights, however I won’t have a way of meeting anyone prior to this and don’t want to go alone what can I do?

Late arrival to University

I am an incoming student for September'26 . The welcome week starts on 21st September. Due to my work commitments i will be travelling from India on 23rd September. I will be able to attend the university on 24th of september only.
Will I be able to cope up with everything I missed the 3 days

I also saw that the 22nd September is the day to join the Sports & Fitness fair, will I be able to join the cricket club even if i miss the date. https://www.birmingham.ac.uk/welcome/your-new-student-life/events

Any helps would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is it worth going in for welcome week as someone that isn’t interested in freshers activities?

I’m commuting in and it’s 1.5h journey, is there actually anything important education wise that will be occurring during freshers week?

Late visa

So I am a first year medicine student, and I applied for my visa on 20th of August (completed my biometrics).
Is it enough to get the decision on time?
I am from a country that I think needs more time to check, middle-eastern. And I had an email today telling me that I will have an interview on 9th of September which is already late enough, according to the published processing times my visa should already be in my hand by then.
Is it normal? Will I be able to arrive on time?
Not necessarily welcome week, lectures

Course registration still in progress on SFE?

I’m going into first year. I completed online registration the day after results day but on my student finance application it says they haven’t heard from the uni yet that I’m registered. Should I contact the university or is this normal?

I will be arriving on the BHX airport on 23rd September. Can anyone help with the pickup from airport ? Or guide me on the way to travel from airport to the university ?

I also heard there is some greet meet wherein university seniors will pick us up from the airport. Is it true? Can someone give clarity ?

Struggling to get house deposit because I need proof of council tax exemption and Birmingham council aren’t responsive

Anyone else struggling to get proof of student council exemption from Birmingham council? My student house was with purple frogs and they won’t give our deposit back until we get proof from the council of our student exemption of council tax?

Called, emailed and submitted forms with the council but Birmingham council are genuinely awful. The phone is an AI bot that keeps hanging up on me, they take 2 months to email back and they just haven’t acknowledged the form I submitted with everyone’s student ID’s.

I’ve now contacted the DPS (deposit protection scheme) to try and get our deposit back but I don’t know if purple frogs will accept that request.

Has anyone has had any luck with this or any tips?

Would be much appreciated from a broke graduate :D

UofB Dubai / new student

Helllo, I’m starting at UoB Dubai this September as a Biomedical Science student and I’m looking to connect with other new students, especially Biomed students.
Are there any WhatsApp groups for the September 2026 intake or any groups for Biomedical Science students? I’d love to join and get to know people before we start.
Also, if there are any current UoB Dubai students here, I’d really appreciate any advice or tips before starting; especially about transportation, schedules/timetables, who and how to contact the university about these things.

Also, I’m a girl, so I’d especially love to connect with other female students who are starting Biomedical Science this year! 💗

Tenancy Takeover - Studio

Hi everyone, I have a great studio close to UoB that I no longer need. The studio is in a great location and the building has great amenities such as gym, yoga studio, etc.

Given I am quite desperate to find a replacement, I’m also offering a £245 cash-back as incentive.

If you’re interested please message me!
