I worked in a national park, and you wouldn't believe how many people just leave their brand new gear when they are done. I guess they just buy a new tent each time they go, or they are just doing it for the one-off novelty of camping a single time. Some people just can't be bothered to clean up after themselves.

I camp in national parks a lot, just got back from more than a week in nat'l forests.

IMO left behind gear in the hike-on dispersed areas come in two varieties, * lazy drunk assholes (Covid days were awful) and * sites destroyed by storm, and usually those folks come back the next day or two to recover gear.
