The New Colossus The end of my first successful "Mein Leben" run
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
After about 25 failed attempts, I completed Wolfenstein II on "Mein Leben" permadeath difficulty.
I played the game 7 years ago and never even considered doing permadeath. Then a week ago, for whatever reason, I decided to go for it without brushing up or practicing. I followed PlatinumVault's video guide almost to a tee, but not everything went according to plan and I had to adapt on the fly a couple of times.
Most of my runs ended foolishly in the first half of the game. I only ever made it past the infamous courthouse 3 times, and the 3rd time was my winning run. Despite several losses in just the opening wheelchair section, I got through the final level on my first try.
The 5 low-risk skips I used during the run were: Ausmerzer (1) box skip, Sektion F (2) skip, Manhattan Bunker box skip, Venus balcony skip, and the Venus conveyor belt partial skip.
Playing on my base PS4, I experienced only a single crash, in Mission 2 during a melee takedown.
The PSN playtime tracker wasn't working, so I can't say exactly how long this took. But if I had to wager a guess, I probably spent 15 total hours doing "Mein Leben" runs over the course of a week.
Other challenging trophies/achievements I've completed over the years:
Dead Space 2 ("Hard Core")
Devil Daggers (Survive 500 Seconds)
Devil May Cry 2 ("Over 9000!" Bloody Palace Mode without Exploits, 4+ Hours)
The Evil Within (Akumu Difficulty [PS3/4])
The Evil Within 2 (Classic Difficulty, before Cheats)
Furi (S Rank in Furier Difficulty)
Max Payne 3** ("The Shadows Rushed Me," Permadeath with a Time Limit)
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty ("Great Dane," All Dog Tags / Extreme Difficulty)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots ("Sounds of the Battlefield" / Big Boss Rank)
Mirror's Edge (Speedruns / 50 Stars in Time Trials)
**Max Payne 3 is another permadeath where the trophy is surprisingly only a silver and, like Wolfenstein II, you'll be watching a lot of unskippable cutscenes. I think MP3 was slightly more difficult for me because of the time constraint. In Wolfenstein II "Mein Leben," your run can end in seconds basically at any moment, but you can take your time and even double back if an unexpected alarm happens to go off.
After getting the other trophies in Wolfenstein II and its DLC, the next challenging platinum trophy I'd like to attempt at some point is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance.

The New Colossus The New Collosus rant
Ok I need to rant.......I had up to now a couple of screen freezes in the middle of gun fight. I got no idea how long I am into the story, but it is right after visiting the old farm house.....and some fights feel WAY to unfair or I am just bad at them...and when things are going all to well...MY GAME FREEZES... And just fyi I am playing on normal mode.
Either I have to force shut my PC or fo the good old CTRL ALT DEL to get the task manager...I am running the game from Steam and I NEVER had any proplems running Old Blood nor The New Order. My PC is decent enough and runs other games like Warframe with no problem...hell even DOOM 2016 and Eternal was smooth.
Also....the UI is...shit...even navigation I was lost where to go and it showed when had to navigate the ruins on Manhatten....speaking of Manhatten...my screen went dark right after speaking with Grace so missed some details.
Pro's of the game, love the way the Resistance have made a cosy home on a uboat....cons...I don't like how Grace treats Sigryn and even Anya gave her some stink eye.
End rant...Ya all have a nice day now.

The New Order I just beat The New Order and-
I genuinely believe i havent felt a story hit so hard since i first played Borderlands 2 (the best one.) The story had me sucked in from the start, and im already onto the next one and its already so much better. I swear, if anything happens to my main man Maximum Hass, i will not be happy. (Dont spoil it for me plz thanks :3 )
From Deathshead forcing you to make the choice to the games NPCs changing depending on which choice you make, to the idea of multiple timelines... its truely more than i could ask for in a game. The characters are well written, and oh my, i had never felt so patriotic in my LIFE witnessing the pure, unfiltered AURA Jimi had during that scene (i saved Wyatt my first timeline.)
Im gonna play through the 4 games i have access too, then go back and replay the different timelines. Im not one to cry often, but this story gets me so emotional.
I cant wait to see where this story goes, but i dont want it to end.

Youngblood youngblood yay or nay?
I just finished new colossus, naturally I wanted more of it so I tried youngblood, terrible mistake. I thought I was going to get a continuation, same vibe, same animation, I definitely should've read the reviews first. The opening scenes alone doesn't really give me the mood of that nazi killing machine the same as the rest of the series, I've felt they're twin girls experimenting instead of actually fighting for something. The gameplay made me feel like I'm playing L4D2 also they talk a bit much, I guess this game is just not for me. Also, I've read that its better to play this with someone, if only circumstances allowed it I would. I hope they make a wolfenstein 4 I am curious to see what a liberated america would look like.
What do you guys think should I give it another shot?

The New Colossus Wolfenstein 2 keeps crashing completely, and I don't understand why (I have a 5070 and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D)
After I went to Section F, the game froze for the first time; I couldn't exit the game or even press the Windows key. I could only shut down and restart the computer using the power button on the case.
At first, I thought it was because it was a demanding level, even though with my setup I get 300 fps even on high graphics settings.
I restarted it and it worked fine, but then I got to the part with the three tanks from the nuclear bombs, and the game freezes practically as soon as I enter the match. I also tried setting `enableAssyncCompute` to 0, but nothing changed. Also, that setting wasn’t in the file block, so I added it, but it didn’t make a difference.
Does anyone know what to do?

The New Order Who was more terrifying: General Deathshead or Frau Engel?
Flaired under 'The New Colossus' due to flair restrictions, but this article compares the main villains from Wolfenstein the New Order and Wolfenstein II the New Colossus
When MachineGames brought Wolfenstein back, they had a bit of a challenge when it comes to the story. How do you take villains from a series that's known for cartoonish evil and make them actually scary without losing the pulpy tone? They did it by splitting the threat into two completely different types of horror: General Deathshead and Frau Engel. At the end of the day, they're both sick and demented, but for completely different reasons.
Deathshead is terrifying because he treats inhumanity like a routine day at the office. He's an engineer at heart. He isn't screaming at people or throwing tantrums. Instead, he just looks at human beings as raw materials and replaceable spare parts. When he forces you to choose between Fergus and Wyatt early in The New Order, there is no grand villain monologue or personal malice. He treats it like a doctor running a routine stress test. That complete lack of emotional heat, the total absence of empathy paired with high intelligence, is what makes him so unsettling. He's just a cold, practical mechanic of a terrible system.
Frau Engel is the exact opposite. She is all ego, vanity, and sheer cruelty. Where Deathshead operates in a lab, Engel needs an audience. She likes playing with her food. The train scene in The New Order works so well because she is abusing power purely for her own amusement, using a fake purity test to toy with Blazkowicz while sitting inches away from a gun. By the time The New Colossus rolls around, her disfigurement turns her vanity into pure rage. She turns into a media star for the regime, staging executions like daytime television and pretending to be this loving maternal figure right before snapping someone's neck. She's sadistic because she genuinely enjoys watching people suffer. She gets a kick out of it.
Deathshead represents the machine itself, cold, quiet, and calculating. Engel represents the fanatical rot behind it, loud, narcissistic, and unpredictable. You are afraid of Deathshead because of what he will do to you in a laboratory; you are afraid of Engel because you never know what insane mood she is going to be in five seconds from now. That pretty much sums it up. At the end of the day, no matter how much you analyze their writing or how distinct their brands of evil are, they are both absolute monsters who deserve every bullet that B.J. Blazkowicz puts in them. Who do you think is more terrifying?

The New Colossus The New Colossus was good but kinda frustrating
I was a big fan of The New Order and The Old Blood. I just finished The New Colossus today, and I like the visuals and storytelling, but encountered some issues with gameplay:
- Playing on a PC with a controller is not great as the joystick sensitivity is unusually high by default. I don’t remember the last games having this issue. Perhaps I’m imagining this but I feel somehow that the general gunplay was a step back from the predecessors?
- I frequently found myself lost in a level with no clear indication of where to go. Not that I want yellow paint but maybe some better lighting could have helped.
- Often when in a gun fight and trying to retreat to safety I found myself often getting caught on a wall thanks to some small protrusion, leading to my death
- Enemies would sometimes just appear with no audiovisual warning. You think you’ve cleared out a room and then suddenly you’re getting shot at point blank range. I also remember an instance where there was music playing and the drumbeat was very similar to the footsteps of the heavy enemies.
- The mechanic of being prompted to manually pick something up when you can just walk over it for the same effect is a bit silly
- Frequent crashes on PC

Fluff What if even the fate of Germany after Wolfenstein?
At this point they are basically the viltrumites in their sense of superiority. Entire populations have been exterminated or displaced. Countries have been occupied for decades. Democratic institutions have been destroyed. Generations have grown up under authoritarian propaganda. Collaborators and war criminals would be scattered throughout governments, militaries, police forces, and ordinary society. Infrastructure would be devastated, economies would be wrecked, and millions of people would have no idea what a normal, free society even looks like anymore.
What even happens to the people who survived the regime. Imagine being liberated after spending your entire childhood being taught that the Nazis were the legitimate rulers of the world. Imagine trying to rebuild trust between people who resisted, collaborated, survived, or simply tried to stay alive.
The resistance would have to decide how to rebuild hundreds of countries, prosecute hundreds of millions of potential collaborators, disarm remnants of the Nazi military, deal with resistance movements and competing political factions, and prevent another authoritarian movement from filling the vacuum.
At this point the only way to stop us is something like the scourge virus for Germans, just to prevent another Nazi like regime sometime in the future.

The New Order Improve loading times for The New Order on PC?
Does anyone know if it's at all possible to make the New Order load in faster on PC?
If I die in TNC I can respawn in 2 seconds, but in TNO it takes at least 10 seconds for the game to load back in. Another game like DOOM: The Dark Ages takes less than a second (id Software are wizards).
I have a very powerful PC and know that older games/ports can usually remain bad even on new hardware, but given that the game runs on idTech I'd like to believe this can be mitigated.
I have already tried everything in this thread:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Wolfenstein/comments/6hrcfm/wolfenstein_new_order_pc_fix_master_post/
Other than that, lower graphics settings doesn't help and I haven't found anything in the Nvidia Control Panel that seems to help.

The New Colossus courthouse nightmare
i beat the courthouse level by becoming a rat and climbing up the stack of crates beside an armory on the right side past the door facing the stage, you need to wait for the doors to open, grab a heavy, climb to the stack, crouch then point and shoot. took me a couple of retries because the dogs keep pinning me down

Meme I know I'm not the only one, but holly ...
I mean, I’ve seen Alan Ritchson in a lot of fancasts, but if they ever make a live-action show or movie, he should definitely be our B.J. Blazkowicz.

The New Order Just started playing The New Order. Is Wilhelm Strass a returning character?
Haven't played a Wolfenstein game since the classics. So I'm not up to date on all the lore. But I really get the vibe that he's a retuning character from one of the previous games.
