I tried claiming the digital license for every physical Xbox One game that I own by these two publishers. Every other game I tried to claim worked fine except Destiny 1 which produced a different error message.

The games I tried to digitize that failed are:

 Far Cry 4
 Assassin's Creed: Unity
 Assassin's Creed: Syndicate
 Assassin's Creed: Odyssey

 Just Cause 3
 Just Cause 4
 Rise of the Tomb Raider
 Shadow of the Tomb Raider

These games all produced the exact same error message when attempting to claim:

 Digital license unavailable

 This game is not participating in digital licensing.

 You can still play with the disc inserted.

This error message suggests to me that these publishers intentionally opted out of the disc-to-digital program entirely, which means if the next Xbox console does not have a disc drive then players who own these games physically (such as myself) will either need to keep their old console around to continue to have access to these games or they will need to re-buy games from these publishers digitally to continue to play them into the next console generation.

I’m an Insider on my Xbox Series S, but my cousin has an Xbox Series X and isn’t an Insider; if I sign in with my account on his Xbox, can I convert the games to my account?

There's been a fair few confusing threads on this in the build up to the alpha/beta release today, so hopefully this helps out those who are interested in disc to digital. Pre-requisites:

• You need to be on the Alpha or Beta build of the preview on Xbox. Ins hort that means you need to see "Alpha" or "Beta" in your list of options in the Xbox Insider Hub app on your Xbox.
  • If it is your first time downloading the app, you'll likely not have the 'tenure' to be accepted in at this time. You need to have had the app for 3 months and get up to level 5 in their gamification thingy for the app. Fetails on that can be found here - https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/account-profile/manage-account/xbox-insider-program
• Once you are on that Alpha or Beta build on your Xbox, you can then perform a system update. This will give you the update that includes the disc to digital enhancement.
• Once the update is installed and you are back into the Xbox home screen, insert a disc, tap the menu button (three bars button... the right-side one) and you'll see the 'claim digital' option in your menu that was not there before. Follow the on screen prompts and if the game is eligible, then you'll have the game digitally!
  • Tip: You'll see a little disc icon with three little squares in the top right of the disc for any game that you have successfully done this with.
  • If someone else does the same thing with the same disc on another Xbox account, the word from Xbox is that you will then lose that license.

So, what about on PC... When I open the Xbox library on my PC, I can see (like before), all of my digital licenses. There are now new entries with the new disc icon mentioned above, but not all of these are playable on PC.

• When you filter by 'installable' (under 'Play state') you typically will get a significantly smaller list. This is due to the game not being available on the Xbox/Windows store for PC download. For example: I have 27 games that I was able to get digital entitlements for. Only 4 of them are installable:
  • Super Lucky's Tale
  • State of Decay 2
  • The Elder Scrolls Online
  • RoboCop: Rogue City
• When I filter by 'Cloud playable' (under 'Play state'), I have access to all 27 games (Game Pass Subscription required). I can't confirm this, but I believe this is because Xbox now lets you play your own disc based games via cloud... happy to be correcte don this point though as I'm guessing). For anyone interested, here are the 27 games I was able to get digital entitlements for:
  • The Witcher 3
  • Super Lucky's Tale
  • Sunset Overdrive
  • State of Decay 2
  • Rare Replay (This shows up as 10 entries in the library)
  • Rage 2
  • Mirror's Edge Catalyst
  • Mass Effect Andromeda
  • The Jackbox Party Pack 7

Some observations:

• Not all Microsoft properties work on this. Fallout 4 and 76 were notable exceptions
• All SEGA titles I tried did not work (Judgement games and Yakuza Games)
• Some games did get entitlements on the Xbox console but did not show up on the Xbox app, including FIFA 17, Titanfall 2, Middle-Earth Shadows or War, Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption 2 and a few others.
• Sometimes a games sequel may work this this, but not the original. This happened for me with the Middle-Earth Shadows of series, with Mordor not working, but War did work. This was also the same situation with Titanfall 1 and 2.

Hope this helpful to some people and I'm happy to update this if any new information comes up (or corrections 😄 )

I have an xbox one x and i was wondering if i put a series x exclusive game into the console would i get the digital license still?

Not high enough level to participate in this new feture, just wanna know if a game listed A B C D E language options on the digital version, but the disk I got only allow A&B language, do I get full language options just like the true digital versions after converting? or the region restriction will still apply to the converted version ?

As you know Rockstars is giving free upgrade for digital owners of the GTA V Xbox one version to Series X version, however, the disc owners are left behind.

With the new disc to digital feature, will GTA Xbox one disc owner get the digital One version, and eventually get the Series X upgrade?

I started to transfer some games today. On my XBOX One X (Alpha Skip Ahead). I have "The Witcher III" XBOX One Disc.

I got the digital license - then checked my XBOX Series X (normal Release Version) - and there is The Witcher III - but with the X|S icon.

Is this expected behaviour or is The Witcher III special in this case?

Has anyone personally tested simultaneous game sharing with the new disc-to-digital feature?

Here’s the exact situation:

I insert a physical game into my Series X and claim the digital entitlement on my account.

I remove the disc and keep it put away. The disc is not inserted into either console.

My brother’s Xbox is set as my Home Xbox. He launches the converted game using his own account.

At the same time, I launch the same game on my Xbox while signed into the account that claimed the entitlement.

Can we both play simultaneously, with no disc inserted into either console, exactly like game sharing a regularly purchased digital game?

I understand that the entitlement would leave my account if somebody else inserted the disc and claimed it. I’m only asking how Home Xbox sharing works while I still own and keep the disc.

I’m looking for an answer from someone who has personally tested this exact two-console setup—not guesses about how it should work.

If I were to purchase a copy of a game like RE4 Remake, Requiem, Alan Wake 2 etc that are not on Play Anywhere, can I still play them on the cloud via my Xbox One?

I’m trying to claim Cyberpunk 2077 (Xbox one version, not the ultimate edition) and it tells me to install the disc 1 and it is what I’m putting in but still giving me error?

I put the disc in and it starts installing but won’t let me claim the license it is XB1 version

Hey there, i got the D2D Info (had Andromeda Disc in the Drive) and pressed the More Info Box.
Thats all i was doing.
Now i have time for this, but wen i insert a Disc , like Andromeda, nothing happend, no Box/Info to convert to Digital License.

On none of my Discs.

Hey everyone. I haven't tried to play a physical game in a long while. However with the new disc to digital starting I wanted to try it out.

When I put a disc in nothing happens. Literally nothing. I can't see where I'd play it, nothing about disc to digital, etc. I don't know if that means I have a faulty disc drive or not.

This is a repost per the DM I received:

“You say in your post that it's not a new issue which implies that it isn't something introduced in an update. If you disagree, feel free to repost with more information on when the issue started, the update it was introduced in, and the version you are on now.”

The removal doesn’t really support a cohesive Insider feedback loop, so here’s the clarified version with the requested timeline. (Also, 'flair'ed as a potential issue, NOT a support request.)

I first saw this issue in February 2025, during the Alpha Skip‑Ahead 2504.250220‑2200 period — the same window when Microsoft was actively working on CEC behavior and video‑pipeline changes. The timing matters because this wasn’t a random glitch; it appeared exactly when both systems were being touched simultaneously.

My current build is Alpha Skip‑Ahead 2610.260825‑2200. Listing it is technically unnecessary, since Insider participation doesn’t require tracking regressions across builds, but I’m including it per the DM request.

The issue itself is straightforward and intermittently reproducible:

When the Xbox (Energy Saving Mode) powers on the TV (also Energy Saving Mode) via CEC, the HDMI handshake comes up with a completely broken color gamut. Blues become Reds. Reds become Blues. It’s not subtle — it’s a full inversion.

A TV restart fixes it.
A forced HDMI handshake (format switch, or simply input a→b→a) also fixes it.

This strongly suggests the startup handshake is mistimed, incomplete, or failing under CEC‑initiated power‑on. Multiple cables tested. Same result.

Anyone else seeing this? I'm seeking confirmation, not workarounds.

Edit: Thought I wanted to add; This (theoretical) handshake issue is strangely specific. I'm not experiencing any other historical handshake issues with EDID, like black screens, audio drops, or resolution mismatching (like 'unsupported')
