In my case, it's probably Hells Bells.

First, let me get this out of the way: I absolutely loved seeing AC/DC live.

I’ve been a huge AC/DC fan since I was a kid, but somehow I’d never had the money or opportunity to see them live. So finally getting to see them yesterday at NRG Stadium was a pretty damn special experience.

And watching Brian Johnson at 78 and Angus Young at 71 absolutely tear through a set in front of what looked like 50,000+ people was incredible. No gimmicks, no overcomplicated bullshit — just loud, sweaty, unapologetic rock and roll. Angus was especially ridiculous. The guy is 71 and still has more energy on stage than people half his age. 🤘

BUT...

As much as I enjoyed the show, I have to rant about the sound.

Maybe I'm completely wrong here because I'm definitely not an audio expert, but the acoustics inside NRG Stadium seemed pretty awful to my ears.

There was so much sound bouncing around that at times it felt like I was hearing the same thing coming back at me from different parts of the stadium. It created this weird wash of sound, and after a while my ears were ringing and I was actually struggling to make out Brian's vocals.

I've seen bands in smaller venues around Austin where the sound was absolutely phenomenal, so I'm wondering — is this just the reality of trying to make a giant sports stadium sound good for a rock concert? Do all stadium shows have this problem, or was something particularly off last night?

Then there was the sound engineering/mixing.

Whenever Angus was playing, everything sounded great to me. But when Brian came in, there were moments where it felt like the PA was being pushed way past its comfort zone. His vocals sometimes sounded like the speakers were about to tear themselves apart. I'm not sure how much of that was the venue acoustics versus the actual mix, but it was pretty distracting.

And finally, the production.

Again — I LOVED THE SHOW. Seeing a bunch of 70+ year-old guys absolutely light up a stadium is something I'll remember for a long time.

Brian is 78. Of course he's going to struggle with some of the high notes. And honestly, I don't expect him to sound exactly like he did 40 years ago. There were plenty of moments where he couldn't quite hit the notes, and I was completely fine with that.

But this is where I kept thinking: why not help him out a little more?

This is AC/DC. This is a massive production, a stadium full of people, and $300 tickets. If Brian can't quite reach a note anymore, why not have some additional backing vocals to help fill in those moments? Not to replace him — just to give him a little support and help smooth out the rough edges.

Because the guy has earned it.

I wasn't expecting Brian Johnson to magically become 30 years old again. I was expecting a massive stadium production designed to make a legendary 78-year-old singer sound as good as possible.

And despite all of this...

I'd go see them again tomorrow.

That's probably the best way I can summarize the whole thing. The performance, the energy, Angus running around in that schoolboy uniform, the cannons, the crowd, the sheer ridiculousness of watching AC/DC still doing this at this age — it was fucking awesome.

I just can't help thinking that the show could have sounded so much better.

Maybe someone with actual audio/production expertise can explain what I was hearing. Is NRG Stadium just notoriously difficult acoustically? Is this a stadium problem in general? Or was something off with the sound mix last night?

First ever concert and it happens to be the best band around. May not be in their prime anymore but boy do they still know how to rock and put a good show

Attended show in Houston tonight it was incredible!! Band sounded really good. I could not believe angus guitar solo that went for 15 min. Felt like AC/DC gave us a treat tonight

Taking my son to his first ACDC concert in STL next week. I received an email that I will have early access fan preview the night before the main Pop up. Was thinking of taking my son but is it really an exclusive event? It doesn't say I need to show the email or ID so is anyone just allowed in or only those who got the email? I don't want to go to this "preview" if it's a waste of time.

If you dont know him, hes an Australian rock legend, singer of Rose Tattoo. Before that he was in a band called Buster Brown to which Phil Rudd was the drummer of before joining AC/DC. Mark Evans also joined Rose Tattoo as bass player in 2017.

Angus and Bon jammed with Rose Tattoo a couple of times in the late 70s at the Bondi Lifesaver.

The tatts were also part of the Alberts record label.
