Left it long, and then figured I could just let it go and see how big it got. Burpees Golden, which I’ll use for soup, and save the seeds for future. I have 2 of them this size weighing 7kgs each!

My first strawberry bed with weed free membrane gave 3kg of strawberries this year. The second bed with no membrane gave very very little and was ridden with weeds - I just couldn't keep on top of them. Should I dig them all up and put a membrane down and replant, or surround them with compost and straw mulch?

Harvest from today, haven't been down for a couple of days and now I'm drowning in French beans.
Courgettes are starting to overwhelm me but are you even growing courgettes if they aren't?
Currently eating shakshuka made with aubergine, courgettes and tomatoes with random other bits everyday for breakfast.. can't complain though, I'm eating better than 99% of the population!

Anyone got good recipes for the French beans?

Me and my family have had an allotment for around 3–4 months, and we’ve called it The Grotty Lotty.
I really enjoy making content and getting into videography, and I’d love to start making longer-form YouTube videos documenting the allotment and how it changes over time.
I’m thinking of doing something like “The Grotty Lotty — Episode 1: Welcome to the Grotty Lotty”, with proper filming, talking, and editing rather than just making generic gardening videos.
My parents don’t really want to be on camera, though, so I’d mainly be filming myself, the allotment, and what I’m doing.
I’m also 13, so I’m a bit nervous about people I know seeing it and judging me 😂
Do you think it’s worth starting, even if hardly anyone watches the first few videos?

I posted early in the year about growing some plants from seed taken from supermarket snack peppers. I had them from Tesco in February.

Anyway, they've done great.

Already taken quite a few across a few plants. I took seeds from yellow, orange and red fruits.

So far I have had orange and yellow fruits ripen. I am hoping the other plants that are laden with fruit will give some red fruit.

Anyway, I know people often warn against doing this, but I figured the parent fruit would have been from huge glasshouses or tunnels with just one variety growing and it didn't cost anything to try.

Really pleased with the results!

I would like to recreate traditional pub style pickled onions like these. They are identical to the ones my grandparents used to grow and pickle. They are also heinously expensive to buy!

Any advice on the right seeds to use, though?

I only see "Paris Silverskin" being recommended, but I find this a bit sus because Silverskin pickled onions are completely different.

I have no idea where I placed the seed packet and I could've sworn it said Giant on it.

Also. If you're a seasoned Pumpkin grower in the UK I'd love any advice on taking it through September into October.

Somehow managed to forget some of the varieties I grew this year and cant find the label I put on this plant. I think it looks a cool tomato but it wasnt very productive for me. (Probably my fault) but want to try them again next year and see if they do any better. Thanks for any ideas you have

Yearly harvest competition fodder!

Found this in my carrots. About 4 inches in diameter.

I'm not eating it - I think it's Amanita family and quite likely a Destroying Angel.

A few things picked from the plot. The orange cherry Tomatoes are variety 'Honeycomb' and even though I'm not much of a Tomato eater(my daughter scoffs them!), they are quite tasty.

Harvested the first of my big Onions(Glazebrook seed) and it weighed 8.5lbs. Was hoping for double figures but not this time. Have another 2 to harvest soon and if I don't hit double figures, I guess I'll have to try and start the seed earlier.

First year with my plot and enjoying it. Today feels like the first day where I have a surplus and no idea what to do with it. Everything is ridiculously big - including a marrow - hiding under the kale, cavalo nero and chard mountain.

The purple things are plums not grapes so dog safe.

I posted recently about the chance to take up an allotment. Received some helpful replies and things to look out for like the rhubard and sage already growing.

Finally got the keys the other day and have had a chance to get down and see it all a bit closer. The shed is in better condition than it looked from the outside and I have been left some bricks and concrete blocks not sure what to do with them.

Any more suggestions or advice would be welcome. Any idea where to place compost pile or bin or thoughts on where you would start I'd be happy to hear.

For various reasons I failed my last one in midsummer and have got one more chance to pass.

I have garlic planned to go in September-time, but whenever I research what to sow there is so much conflicting advice on whether it is 'too late' or not to sow.

Grew Rocotto chillies for the first time this year and am really impressed. Have been outside since late May.

Quite unusual - horizon growth habit, hairy leaves, and black seeds in the fleshy fruits.

Also, they don't cross with most Chilli varieties, so you can save the black seeds for next season!

Have used in chilli, pasta and curry dishes. Lovely stuff.

Have you grown any unusual chillies this year?

This is my first time trying Ogen Melon.

I thought they would be ripe much ahead of time. But they just started changing colour.

I read online that you can smell the ripe melon. But I don’t get any fragrance. Are they ready? Or should I let it be for a few more days?

I was gifted a random squash plant by my parents. They didn't know what it was, and it's got some funky fruit on it. Should I wait for them to turn into pumpkins or does this look more like a courgette?

Corn has been great this year. At the back are 2 red kuri and a small Thelma Sanders (good for storage, I’ve still got 8 of them in the garage from last year!)
