Recently got out of the military and went out with my cousins' friends to celebrate. They're all in their early 20's and I'm in my 30's. We go out to NY to celebrate, and I noticed everyone is using AI for everything. "What should we do? Where should we go?" Normal stuff. Things got eerie when we took a cab or UBER, as I'm talking to the Uber about New York they're typing, "What kind of questions do I ask an UBER driver? Is it safe to talk to them? Is it normal?" TF is happening. I know we joke about AI making us dumber but HOLY.

"Who do I vote for? Who do I marry? When do I breathe?"

Apperantly it's a 24/7 thing.

And I'm prety sure they're just straight up wrong about the statistic cuz if people in just one nation eat a few thousand burgers a day, we'd probably be in a water crisis lol

They will always insist you still are as wasteful as them, because of the old „if you think society bad why participate in it” fallacy, or „If you believe in zero waste why have a phone”

If you’re that dense, I remind you going off the grid isn’t possible for everyone. Most of us wouldn’t last for a winter in the forest. Most of us don’t have enough space in their backyard to have solar panels, collect rain water and purify it through filters, and enough time to make their own clothes and grow their own vegetables - that’s what society is for.

Most of us can’t live long without modern medicine, some of us need medication to survive day to day. Your grandma can’t exist without hospitals, does it mean she needs to die? No, it means we need to make society as ecological as possible so that it can exist even longer, and save even more grandmas.

Anyway I had that conversation with a dude who claimed AI uses 1/10th of water I use for laundry, and that I can save that much water already. He couldn’t be convinced that I already save probably much more with using gentle biodegradable detergents, rainwater, and limiting the amount of laundry I do. The conversation never turned on him, it was always, „ok but you surely don’t do enough”. Brother at least I try. What about you?
