Recent influx of scam accounts posting other people’s work!

It has happened a handful of times recently, so I’ve set up a filter that should catch new accounts to cut down on that.

Having said that, if you are a legit new beader and the filter has caught your post, feel free to reach out to the mod team so we can approve your post!

And thank you to the community for catching these posts and reporting them! I may recognize a few really popular pieces, but not many, and I imagine the other mods are probably the same, so it’s very helpful to have other people reporting them to us!

Beading apps!

Hi guys! I know I’ve been promising this for ages, but I wanted to do it in a more structured way. Well that just isn’t going to happen, so fuck it, we’ll just do it this way!

If you have a beading related app, please post it here with any relevant info you think people should or would want to know.

Please leave parent comments for app devs to talk about their apps. If you know of an app that hasn’t been posted, and you aren’t sure if the dev is on Reddit, don’t post until we are sure they aren’t going to post for themselves. Like 2-3 weeks maybe? Idk, I’m on my lunch break right now. Don’t try to make me think!

Anyway, yes. Once we have it all posted I think we will make a master list to go in the wiki and then we can add any others that come up later.

And please remember, do not comment unless you are posting about your app, or replying to a comment about an app. Any other top level comments will be removed to keep it organized and easy to sort through.

Sources of ideas

Sometimes people ask me where I get my ideas from. And when I say from everywhere, I'm not kidding 😎

For example, this bracelet was "inspired" by... a sidewalk in one of the cities in the game I play 😅

Oh, and btw, on the left, that's me on a horse 🤪

The super duper tiny peyote collar was the first thing I ever beaded, and I didn’t know that beading needles existed — so I fed the thread through each bead with a pair of tweezers! Haha…

Edit: wow, thank you all so much for all the kind words!!!!

Work in Progress Finished Beading my Largest Project To Date - Still WIP

I really wanted to make my own take in a beaded hat band. I have always seen loom woven, or peyote stitch the width way - but I wanted minimal thread showing on the top and bottom edge.

So why not peyote stitch length wise?

Probably never doing that decision again. Tension was a nightmare and I got so many starts and ends to weave in and hide.

I am happy with my progress though. For never doing this before, 60 hours in, I feel this has taught me a lot. If ever done again, I would probably make it a smaller width with a simpler pattern. (Pattern is my own design).

I'm attempting to make a purse charm mimicking snapdragon. The plan was two of the finished version of what's depicted, but I'm not liking the shape. I was thinking to taper in the top or maybe flare out, but it already is a bit large. Any advice would be appreciated ☺️

mixed media - felt, glass beads, ribbon, lace, sequins, and embroidery floss. took me wayyyy too long to make (5 sessions 4-5 hours each). i love all the different textures, originally i was going to completely cover the plain white ribbon with beads but i loved the feeling of the smoothness next to the beads.

Where can I buy emerald/ruby beads for necklaces in Florida?

Upvotes

Hi! I’m looking for natural emerald and ruby beads for necklaces, preferably from Indian-style jewelry or bead shops.
Any recommendations for Florida stores, gemstone dealers, bead shops, or gem shows? I’m especially interested in Jacksonville, St. Augustine, Daytona, Orlando, or nearby areas. I’d appreciate vendor suggestions for good quality and reasonable prices.

Finished my first piece? Is it okay? Does anyone have any tips?

r/Beading 2h ago

I started over again, but I think it's still off. I noticed in most of the tutorials I watched the last three beads are facing inward but on my pattern it's outward. Is that why mine looks wrong?

So now the up row and the down row have the wrong bead count...

I bought a collection of beads that someone was selling as they were giving up. It included was a ziplock bag of loose beads…

I’m just sharing the pain 😂😂😂

There are acrylic “fire polished” rounds, acrylic bicones, seed beads in 6/0 and 11/0 and mixed bugles

I’m going to be here a while

Doubt regarding the math behind beadwork

Hello! I've recently gotten into beading and can follow step-by-step patterns but can't really understand the logic behind it all.

For example, I've been trying to figure out how to create circular peyote spheres of different sizes using 4, 5 or 3 beads in the first row. I've seen different patterns for them but can't understand the formula(?)

I've learnt a bit of crochet and tried to apply that logic but I might be doing something wrong.

Sorry if this is a FAQ, thank you!

I created this pattern and made these two little figures from my own designs. What color combination should I try next? Suggestions are welcome!

I’d also appreciate any advice on improving my technique or the final finish.

Work in Progress My Demon Slayer-inspired beadwork project is finally coming together!

I’ve been working on this Demon Slayer-inspired beadwork project for what feels like forever.
I created the patterns and bead-loomed each bracelet by hand using Miyuki Delica beads. Each piece is inspired by a different character or design from Demon Slayer, and I tried to interpret those elements in my own way through beadwork.
The Zenitsu bird bracelet still needs to be finished, but I was way too excited to wait.

I’m brand new at this, and I’m having trouble visualizing the steps I need to take now that I’m at the fin. Any help would be great! TIA

Need Help! Displacing Beads with Brick Stitch

Post image
9 Upvotes

My first and second row usually look solid, but as I build, I have a tendency to knock beads out of place on the row below (see middle row in photo). I’m making sure I only go through the thread bridge and I’m not pulling too tight. I’ve also tried pulling the thread in different directions. Is there something I should be looking out for as I add beads? For what it’s worth, Peyote stitch has been giving me grief as well lately, so maybe the same issue is translating to both types.

My French Beaded flower petals look pathetic

Post image
27 Upvotes

I've recently picked up the hobby and tried making a pink lily. The petals looks irregular and I'm not sure where I can get the information to get the rows to fit together better. My wires become crooked easily and I struggle with the closing and starting of new rows. If you have any advice, please share.
