Chat with Mork Gryning. Founded in Stockholm, Sweden in 1993, the veteran melodic black metal band quickly made a name for themselves with their widely-hailed debut Tusen år har gått... Their latest album, 2024’s Fasornas tid, is forged in the fires of black metal’s raw ferocity and ageless spirit. It’s now available through Season of Mist. Because it's that time of day.

VVorld VVithout End, an iconic release by Katharsis and easily one of the best black metal releases ever.

I just love every song on this album. Every riff on point, every note a hit in the face.

Violent, occult, satanic, fuck you all, no compromise!

I think I accidentally found a Decalius connection in this “North Korean” black metal project

I've been going down a rabbit hole of obscure Korean / supposedly North Korean black metal and came across a project called Amnok (압록)

The project is presented as being from North Korea, which immediately made me curious because there doesn't seem to be much reliable information about actual underground metal coming from the DPRK

Then I found their 2026 release “샷건” (Shotgun)

On Qobuz, the track is credited to Amnok, with Braulio Avelar Rodriguez listed as the composer. That name immediately caught my attention because Braulio Avelar Rodriguez is the guy behind Decalius

And Decalius also has a song called “Shotgun”

I couldn't find anything on the Qobuz page explicitly saying that the Amnok track is a Decalius cover, so I'm not claiming that's confirmed. But the Braulio Avelar Rodriguez credit is a pretty strange coincidence

The whole Amnok thing gets even weirder because 압록 (Amnok) is the Korean name for the Yalu River, which runs along the China–North Korea border

There is also another project called Kuryong (구룡) connected to the same “North Korean black metal” scene / aesthetic

So I'm basically wondering who is actually behind these projects

Could be completely unrelated and just a weird coincidence

Could also be some kind of alias / collaboration connected to Braulio

Has anyone here looked into Amnok or Kuryong before?

I'm mostly interested in whether anyone has found actual information about the people behind this stuff, because the “North Korean black metal” story feels increasingly strange the deeper I dig

Urgehal concert scheduled for yesterday in Istanbul was cancelled due to a bad organizer and attempts were made to cover up the situation with flimsy excuses yet the band members were actually in the city and eventually ended up at the coolest metal bar on the anatolian side for a drink.
