Mod The Calligraphy Marketplace 2026!

Hello Calligrafam!

We are changing the Marketplace from a monthly offering to a persistent post since there has not been enough activity to necessitate a monthly thread. If we need to pivot back to a monthly or quarterly post, we can adjust down the road.

Marketplace Rules

Calligraphy-related items or services only!

There is also an Approved Vendors list. If you are a vendor and would like to be added to this list, please message the mods with information about your products or services and links to your marketplace and/or website, and we will review and add approved vendors to this list.

BUY/SELL/EXCHANGE

  • First contact between buyer and seller may be made here; afterward, kindly conduct all other business through DM.
  • If you are selling work, tools or equipment, make sure to include clear images and details to prevent confusion and miscommunication.

REQUESTS/COMMISSIONS

  • If requesting a commission, you must confirm that you are willing to pay for the services and provide the desired text or a description of project, and general ideas of what you'd like so the calligrapher interested has an idea of what's expected. Calligraphers can comment on your thread to indicate interest, and then rates can be discussed over DM.
  • If you are available to do commissions, share some info and examples of your work so people interested have an idea of what to expect.
  • Do not request artists here to work for you for free.
  • Artists: Do not offer to do commissions for free or undercut other artists.

PROMOTION/SELLERS

  • Feel free to promote your YouTube channel, Instagram, or Etsy shop.
  • If you'd like to be added to the Approved Vendors list, please message the mods.

Mods reserve the right to remove any post for any reason. If any of these or sub rules are broken, post will be removed without notice. Repeat offenses may result in ban.

Mods are not responsible for any transaction made here; but if something goes wrong, let us know and we can take action within the sub (blacklist, bans, etc).

Exemplar / Ductus A small tribute to a friend.

Last week, a friend gave me a copy of the Speedball Textbook, 20th Edition, and as a small gesture of appreciation, I copied a few pages—particularly the Humanistic Hand—into my Campus notebook. It was a relaxing and rewarding exercise, and it gave me a chance to study the forms more closely while honoring a thoughtful gift.

I’ve also decided to turn this notebook into a commonplace book where I can collect calligraphy exemplars, quotations, and ideas that inspire me. The original pages from the Speedball book are included in the last photo for comparison. This feels like a meaningful way to begin a notebook that I hope to fill for many years to come.

Photo of Louis Madarasz (1859-1910) as a young man. He was a very famous American calligrapher, highly regarded by his peers, even by the age of 19. He had other interests, too, like acting: "Madarasz performed on stage with the theatrical company of Richard Foote during 1884–1885."

(Watermarked due to being a commissioned work.)

Hello. I have a chance to create this tarot deck boxes design for my friends at Medieval Village Thailand. Merging Warfare is our combat LARP event.

The design is mostly from the Sherborne Missal (ADD MS 74236) f.398, 399, 326, 591. The painting is inspired by the Dresden prayer book (MS.43(91.MS.81).r).

The calligraphy work is done using Manuscript calligraphy pen with 0.60/0.85mm stub nub and Twsbi Eco-T 1.1mm stub nib pens. The ink used are Sailor Cosmic Light and Sailor Bangkok Ink Tiss.

Painted using Royal Talens Designer Gouache. The paper used is Clairefontaine calligraphy paper which is cut down to A4 size.

Please comment and feedback, thanks. I am really looking forward to the actual manufacturing of the deck in the coming months.

Enrevesar

Transitive verb, "To make something more intricate"

One day the small pen is going to run out of ink and I will be able to replace it with one that doesn't feather.

Word of the day : https://www.merriam-webster.com/word-of-the-day/2026/09/01/

Pen : Pilot parallel 3.8mm.

Ink : Camlin photocolor inks (CRIMSON).

Paper : 200 GSM cold pressed textured watercolour papers.

Did this one in a hurry, so, the guidelines are not proper. The pressure on strokes is also quite unstable. But glad that the practice is on!!!

Also, I'm stealing New-Confidence3855's strategy of learning one capital letter a day :)

The wobble in the long s is bothering me though...

Alas, it's a work in progress!

Pen: Pilot Parallel 3.8mm

Ink: Pilot Mixable red/purple

Script: Textura Quadrata by itemzero

Paper: perfect ideaz watercolor bookmark blank

Behold, my first contribution to this reddit: my four pages of me having an absolutely ridiculous time! my handwriting on its own isn’t very good, especially when i go fast, but I’ve already noticed some improvement in the month i’ve been practicing. Picking cursive back up has definitely helped a lot, lol.

I was surprised the preparation (measurements, drawing the frames...) took me the most amount of time and frankly, drove me a bit crazy. Not prepared to do it again anytime soon but very proud of myself !!

WotD Horchata, Spanish word of the day

Some pens ran out of ink and that allowed me to replace the pilot color mixable ink with Winstor & Newton blue ink which seems to not feather in the paper. That makes me very happy 😁.

Horchata

A drink made from tiger nuts or other nuts, crushed, squeezed, and mixed with water and sugar.

(I'm my everyday life I'm pretty sure the drink everyone calls horchata is actually made like a tea from a flower that has nothing to do with tiger nuts, but maybe it is regional)

Critique Learning Calligraphy Again!

Tachikawa nib holder, Speedball Hunt 101 nib and Bombay Blue ink

I dabbled on and off learning calligraphy with dip pens and brush pens for years, but never formerly sat down and learned until now! I’ve been practicing anywhere from 20-45 mins a day consistently for maybe the last 4 or 5 days.

I usually practice with a Kyoei Orions Kiwami Shitajiki Writing Board that has the 55° guides and learning from various Youtube videos and books. The Postman’s Knock has been my main source of learning for a while! I’ve been trying to learn the basics of Copperplate while also trying to develop my own style with it as well.

I know I need to work on getting consistent with spacing and so on but any other tips would be appreciated!

My first attempt at Copperplate

My bestie gifted me a calligraphy set from Aifeiter. Practiced for an hour, I feel like it's going to be a long process lol. Does anyone have any suggestions on a teacher who uses a straight dip pen with copperplate? I've only found videos from people who use the oblique pens.
