Advice Cat attacking automatic feeder

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My cat does this several times a day. If the automatic feeder lifts at the correct angle, a few niblets of dry food comes out. He will even do it 10 times in a row even if it means one small piece of dry niblet comes out. It does get quite annoying as the sound of the feeder hitting the ground echoes throughout the entire house.

Any ideas on how to get him to stop?

Bad, terrible even. I feel worse now that I've seen that poor obese cat ;(

Awful. Be a better owner for the poor thing’s sake.

Do you see how long my cat is? He's quite proportional, runs around everyday, and if I fed him any less I think it would be abuse.

The most damning evidence I’ve seen that life imitates art

u/theodo Jul 22 '26

Hey he's at least better proportioned.

Bought this absolute GEM off an IG ad a few months ago. Brings joy to all.

Mine, but actually. Yet when I give her food, she'll turn her nose up at it. She made it to 18 so far without any health concerns with that attitude though, so it can't be that wrong.

Ours latetly is been taking his metal plate, up to the cat tree, and throwing it to the floor to make noise on the mornings.

Other things he has done in the past to get food are: cat slapping a hanging mirror ao it would hit the wall behind it repeatedly (we had to take it down and gift it for fear of him being smashed by the mirror falling). Make the same noise as when he is biting cables (without actually biting them, my bf was pissed but ammused). Scratching the side of the bed (he knows i hate it). Tipping the water fountain getting the wooden floor wet (its now inside a metal bowl with weigths so he cant do it again, he has done it again). Before that one my bf had a plastic one that he oppened, got the plastic tube/straw that fed the fountian water from the bottom and hid it. Also actually biting cables of course, but thats him being a menance, not asking for food so it doesnt count.

Also obviously stealing food from his dog, and then from mine, but from mine, because i watch my dogs food for about half an hour so he can eat before taking it away, i heard him crunch on some food, but couldnt see him, and after a few minutes i saw him taking one kibble from my dogs plate, and hidding to eat it so i wouldnt see him and take the food away 🤦🏼‍♀️ he was under the coffe table, he barely fits under the coffee table.

For 10 cents a day, you can fill a bowl.

2

u/nuttnurse Jul 22 '26

lol you haven’t seen the price of food here have you

1

u/NelzyBellz Jul 22 '26

It’s from the commercial. And yes, I am fully aware of food prices.

1

u/nuttnurse Jul 22 '26

I keep saying if you can feed a family of 4 for a cup of coffee (5.00) per week I’d like there purchase opportunities as I can’t do it for under 300 per week and that’s just basics nothing extravagant add rent and utilities and I’m short every week no matter how many hours I work
