Bräu = Brew
würzig = spicy (in the literal sense), aromatic or tangy - often used for beer
würgig = weird form of "würgen" meaning "to retch/gag"

If you look outside of that study, the two places that I hear the term Alpha is in programming and nuclear science (specifically radiation).

In programming, alpha is before it's really workable (i think. I know beta is when you have a working prototype). It's so long before release that to call it ready would be like calling yeast bread.

In radiation, alpha particles are the weakest particle. They have trouble getting through skin. They're still dangerous, but only if the radiation source is inside you.

So, if you look at an "alpha male," it sounds like they're either so not ready for the outside world that to call them men is laughable, and/or very weak who are only dangerous of they get under your skin.
