A Day Without Immigrants- Strike & March- Wednesday Sept 2nd
From: Danbury Unites for Immigrants (DUFI)
This week in Danbury, at least 65 families have been torn apart by ICEās abduction. On Monday 16 of our neighbors were abducted, on Tuesday 10 of our neighbors were abducted, on Wednesday 22 of our neighbors were abducted, and on Thursday 14 of our neighbors were abducted ā while up to a dozen ICE vehicles patrolled our city each day.
Danburyās immigrant community is essential to the city and to our entire state. When immigrants are targeted and racially profiled, the whole community is harmed.
We need to make clear that WE ARE NOT OK with the authoritarian takeover of any Connecticut city. CT stands with Danbury. ICE OUT OF CT!
We cannot stand by while our neighbors are targeted and our community is threatened. That's why Danbury Unites for Immigrants is coming together with Working Families Power, partners, and local businesses on Wednesday to host a Day Without An Immigrant ā Strike & March on September 2nd.
A Day Without Immigrants - Danbury CT Citywide Shutdown
Wednesday Sept 2nd, 5:00 PM
Danbury Public Library Plaza, 170 Main St, Danbury, CT
NO WORK ⢠NO SCHOOL ⢠NO SHOPPING ⢠CLOSE ALL BUSINESSES
This daylong shutdown and the evening march are strategic, nonviolent ways to resist ICE aggression and authoritarianism in Connecticut.
Local businesses are declaring a āDAY WITHOUT AN IMMIGRANTā on Sept 2nd. They will close their doors to show the power of immigrant communities and those who support them in Connecticut.
We're asking YOU to stand in solidarity. On Sept 2nd - Donāt go to work. Donāt go to school. Donāt go shopping. Join us at 5pm for a rally.
These actions help strengthen our solidarity power because they:
* Make the economic and social impact of ICE aggression highly visible by showing what a āday without immigrantsā looks like.
* Help protect vulnerable people from potential encounters with enforcement during a period of heightened risk.
* Offer a powerful, peaceful, collective protest that clearly communicates our shared values and our refusal to be silent and accept this as ānormalā.

Questions about Germantown area
Hey everyone! Iām considering moving from Stamford to the Germantown area near Danbury Hospital and wanted to get some opinions from locals.
How do you like the area overall? Is it generally safe and quiet? Any nearby streets or areas youād avoid? And how do you like living in Danbury in general?
Iāve driven around a few times and it seems nice overall, but Iām not super familiar with Danbury and would love some local insight before making the move. Thanks!
Waxing Places
Drop your reccoās for waxing services in the area. Trying to find an eyebrow + Brazilian place. Does anyone do sugaring in the area? (Open to drive to neighboring towns)

Referendum Sept. 1st Bethel- Buy & conserve 108 acres of unbuilt land
Look up your polling place in Bethel
The owners have given the Town of Bethel a limited opportunity to purchase the property before the end of September. After that, they have indicated that they intend to offer the property for sale to developers.
The proposal is straightforward: the Town secures the property now, while the Bethel Land Trust raises the conservation funding needed to protect it permanently. The Land Trust expects that process to take approximately 12 to 18 months. Once funding is secured, the Land Trust would purchase the property from the Town and place a conservation easement on it. The BLT and the Town would then jointly manage the land.
This would be similar to the management done for the Franc Preserve in Bethel, which currently allows hiking, biking, and mushroom foraging. There is also the potential to continue agricultural use similar to how it is used now. (right now it has a wildflower meadow that is harvested for hay twice a year) Or add a community garden.
The Town, in effect, serves as the bridgeāgiving the Bethel Land Trust time needed to secure conservation funding without losing the property in the meantime.
The total outlay is about $3 million. The town has enough reserve funds to buy it outright without bonding. The vote is to approve the outlay. The grants to then cover the outlay are then applied to to pay back the money to the general fund. The town specifically qualifies for federal assistance under the Highland Conservation Act (2004) to preserve this type of land. There are also additional state and private grants that will help cover it that both the town and Bethel Land trust will be applying for to cover the cost.
from what was discussed at the public meeting, they expect most of the $3 million to be paid back to the general fund within that 18 month window stated above. Some would get paid back in this year!
The town will be purchasing the land outright and signing a letter of intent with the Land trust to do the eventual transfer. There will be additional public meetings during next year to determine if the town transfers all of it or holds back a few acres, based on final plan. For example, the town might keep a few hundred feet of road frontage so it has space to install drainage or straighten sections of the road 20 years from now. But the majority is intended for conservation. there's just a little wiggle room there to make more logical choices about future needs in the area before doing the transfer.
The town will fully own the property and if for some reason the Land Trust cannot raise funds for purchase, the town may then seek out another partner or keep it as town owned land with a conservation easement, similar to the Franc property.
You can see pictures of the property and a drone flyover in this previous post.
Bethel peeps, get out and vote! and if you're not in Bethel but got friends there, remind them to vote!

Danbury Unites for Immigrants: Day of Action Saturday 8/29
SATURDAY ā MASS DAY OF COMMUNITY OUTREACH & CANVASSING
Kennedy Park on Main and Elm, Danbury
9:00 AM start time
Danbury Unites for Immigrants will be out in the community talking with our neighbors, sharing our helpline phone number, outreaching to businesses, building community trust, and making sure people know their rights and how they can support.
Whatās in our canvassing packets? Know your rights info, information how to contact our helpline, and guidance on what to do if you see ICE presence.
Why are we distributing this information? This week has shown that Danbury has become the epicenter of ICEās violence, with daily raids and intimidation targeting immigrant families. Many families are afraid to leave their homes, send their kids to school, and go to the grocery store, but we know that understanding your rights is our first line of defense.
Never canvassed before? No worries,we'll do a short training at 9am to provide you with all the instructions and materials you need to have a successful experience!
We need people in the streets. We need people knocking doors. We need people standing with their neighbors.
This is the moment to show up.
This is the moment to organize.
This is the moment to defend our community.
Saturday. 9 AM. Kennedy Park. Be there.
SAVE THE DATE we;re coming together with partners and local business on Wednesday to host a DAY WITHOUT AN IMMIGRANT ā STRIKE & MARCH on September 2nd
Danbury Public Library, 170 Main St, Danbury, CT

Wooster Village in the 80s
Wooster Village was the shit. You'd grab a soda at Roma's, swing in to Edmund's for some Now and Laters, then go play Commando, Ghosts 'n Goblins or After Burner in the Laundromat. I haven't been back in years, but maybe some old Park Avenue kids know what's up...

ICE activity in Danbury August 24th-25th + Mayor statement
Additional info From Danbury Area Justice Network (8/25)
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED. Please come to Danbury courthouse with signs if available! High presence today and we need to alert community. 7+ people detained, over a dozen cars driving all over the city. WE NEED PEOPLE
Keep in mind people who are coming to the courthouse to deal with immigration issues are already complying with court orders! if they're supposed to get arrested or handed over to law enforcement there, the court will do it. Snatching people outside so they can't make their court appointment is something ICE has done previously and why they're asking for people AT the court.

Volleyball Drop-In near Danbury
Hello all!
I, 25M, havenāt played volleyball since high school and really looking to get back into it. Everywhere I have seen in the area have been youth leagues. Does anyone have a group or know anywhere I can go to play some casual games? The 2 I have seen have been either through Woodbury Parks and Rec or at the Brookfield YMCA. Any other recommendations would be much appreciated!
Not in the Stamford/Norwalk area.
