Any help/ideas

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi All,

I work for Action Mental Health. We have a service on Pump Street (just beside the big hideous containers).

We’ve got a big comedy show in the Millennium Forum and our comms person asked what would be the best places in Derry to Advertise? (not a lot of budget).

Tickets Sales are slow but the gig is only next month.

Lineup seems great with Emma Doran, Chris Kent, Andrew Ryan, Micky Bartlett and Dave Elliott all doing 25 mins a set.

They have spoken to Micky D, done the papers and leaflets etc.

All profits to go to frontline Mental Health services and they’re needed more now than ever?

Has anyone got any other suggestions to help sell tickets?

Visitors Guide - Places to stay, eat and drink + things to do

This list is not a conclusive list of every establishment, just those that are highly regarded. Please leave your own recommendations in the replies. You may also find more information on the Visit Derry website (https://www.visitderry.com/) and on their socials. Note - some of the recommendations are based outside Derry but all are within a short driving distance of Derry.

Restaurants:

Street Food / Cafe's * Clipper Quay Street Food - Located along the Foyle Marina, multiple street food vendors and a bar are located here providing a range of options, great for when you cant agree on what type of food you want to eat - https://www.clipperquaystreetfood.com/ * The Pickled Duck - Foyle Marina - https://www.facebook.com/pickledduckcafe/ * Mekong Street Food (Vietnamese food) - https://www.facebook.com/MekongSF/ - also operate as a restaurant so maybe it should be above. * PYKE 'N' POMMES - https://www.pykenpommes.ie/ * Guapo (Mexican Food) - https://www.facebook.com/GuapoFreshMex/ * Doherty's Home Bakery - Good if you want a sweet treat or a cheap bite to eat on the go - https://www.facebook.com/Dohertys-Home-Bakery-195510393844691/ * Thai Jing Jing Street Food (Thai takeaway) - https://www.facebook.com/ThaiJingJingStreetFood * The Coffee Tree (Coffee shop) - Serves the best coffee in Derry in my opinion and also the nicest traybakes! Not had their soup or sandwiches but have heard great things. The only negative is they currently do not open on weekends - https://www.facebook.com/p/The-Coffee-Tree-100063482233001/ * Graft Coffee (Coffee shop) - Runs the Coffee tree very close for the best Coffee in the city. Located on Academy road and opens Mon-Sat - https://www.instagram.com/graft_coffee/ * Oui Bakery - French Bakery & Pâtisserie in the heart of Derry's Craft Village - https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61565032170636

Bars

Museums

Parks and Trails

Nearby Beaches - Vary from 20 min drive to 50min

  • Lisfannon Beach - The closest beach to Derry, located before Buncrana on the left. Approx 20 mins drive.
  • Buncrana Beach - Located 5 mins beyond Lisfannon. Bus services to Buncrana run daily.
  • Pollan Beach - Located around the coast from Buncrana and next to one of the best golf courses (Ballyliffin Golf Club) in Ireland.
  • Five Finger Strand - Up the coast from Ballyliffin and across the bay sits Five Finger Strand. With some of the highest sand dunes in Europe and a quaint old church close by, this is a great place to go for a walk or chill on the beach. Note: Do not swim in the water or enter beyond knee height. The water here is dangerous and is known by locals as such.
  • Castlerock Beach - Easy to get to via the train (35/40 mins) from the waterside train station.
  • Benone/Downhill Beach - Located just before Castlerock beach but you would need your own car to get to it. 45 min drive. A ferry service runs from Greencastle (beside Moville) to Magillion Point next to Benone - https://loughfoyleferry.com/timetable-fares/.
  • Shroove Beach - Located just beyond Moville. 40 min drive.
  • Culdaff Beach - Just along the coast from Shroove. 40 min drive.
  • Rathmullan - the closest beach to Derry which is the other side of Letterkenny of which there are lots (Downings, Dunfanaghy, Portsalon etc). You can get the ferry from Buncrana to Rathmullan - http://swillyferry.com/.

Day Trips / Places to see

All of these places below are located in the general North West area and you will likely need a car to get to them.

Honeycomb jobs

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hi. Have seen this job pop up on nijobfinders quite a lot in the last 12 months. Does anyone here have any experience with AML/KYC jobs or worked with honeycomb jobs in the past? Job sounds like it could be interesting but with such a high level of staff turnover I would be a bit apprehensive about applying.

Cheers

Save the Moat, Save the Sperrins and The Environmental Gathering are organising a protest against AI. Here is what they've written :

'Stand Up Against AI & Data Centres 🗣️JOIN US! Thursday 10th September, 5:30pm - Guildhall, Derry

The Artificial Intelligence Collaboration Centre (AICC), a Northern Ireland initiative backed by Invest NI and the Department for the Economy to support AI adoption, is hosting a public forum titled “AI and Our Society” at 6:00pm.

Join us beforehand at 5:30pm outside the Guildhall. There is growing concern about AI, hyperscale data centres, the influence of tech billionaires, the impact on our grid, jobs and creative industries, and the environmental consequences. Bring your banners and placards. All welcome.

P.S this graphic was designed by a person and not AI:

There's a Facebook event link also : https://facebook.com/events/s/stand-up-against-ai-data-centr/1021065747590301/

Best vegetarian takeaway options?

Recently moving towards becoming vegetarian but struggling with convenient options. Sometimes you just don't want to cook or fancy a treat. What options are there in the town for vegetarian takeaway that's actually nice?

Leisure pass for council gyms

Wondering how does this work with the initial joining. Do I call the council offices to apply for a pass? Or should I contact gyms directly ?

I can't find the answer on their website

Any bars have Murphy’s in town ?

As title says I’m looking to find a bar that has Murphy’s, a friend of mine says it’s better than Guinness and as Guinness is my go to I thought I’d want to try it from a tap rather than a can. Cheers

Why was pride kind of shit ?

Parade was good. From then, a couple of bands at the guildhall and a disco (filled with straight people) at sandinos ? I liked it better the last couple of years when there was actually entertainment to watch. I’m not saying the bands aren’t talented or entertaining of course they are, but I prefer drag queens or fun acts. ‘Pre-pride kaboodle’ was also unspeakably bad. Why ???

What's going on at the Guildhall recently?

My in-laws are visiting from America and we took them to see the Guildhall Friday night. A couple drunk women and a whole army of youths started swarming the plaza and starting fights, shouting, etc. Armoured PSNI truck pulled up to the peace garden but it didn't seem to do anything.

Do you ever get taste memory?

There's a thing called gustatory memory, where you can recall the taste of something.

I just got one a few minutes ago for the Bigfoot curry sausage hot dog with onions the Celtic chippy used to do.

I'm veggie now, but jesus, what a taste.

Is there an ancient taste memory you've encountered?

Derry chicken box lover

Hi, I have a very specific festish and I've found a willing participant . I need the best chicken box to eat off human skin. I want the best chicken, no rice and the mildest sauce, coleslaw optional. I'm thinking triple cooked chips, also. Can anyone recommend the best chicken box in Derry? I'm also looking for the best battered sausage curried hotdog.

Border Collie found

Has anyone lost a Border Collie around Gobnascale? He followed me and my dog last night and hasn't decided to leave yet.

His collar had no name or info on it, and I've called the council, the guy kept my number and said they'd give it to anyone who calls them.

Hopefully someone here can help too.

Called in here over two months ago looking for the deeds of my house. I was told they would have to order them and it could take a few weeks and somebody would contact me when they arrived but I would have to bring ID to collect them.

Two months later and no one has contacted me so I called in yesterday to be told that they're not there yet and that they would chase it up and get back to me before Monday.

I got a call today saying oops we forgot to order them and it'll be at least another eight weeks till I can get them.

You couldn't make this shit up ffs
