This is Octavision. A prog metal super group which consists of members Hovak Alaverdyan, Jeff Scott Soto, Victor Vooten, Billy Sheehan, Roman lomtadze, murzo, avo margaryan, artyom manukyan.

Basically what the title says. Lately, my opinion has rapidly shifted on Space Dye Vest. That was a song I despised for the longest time, and although it's not my favorite, it's still a song I've come to enjoy.

This got me thinking about other times this has happened with me. 21 years ago is when I first heard "Home" (specifically the performance of it on Portnoy's Liquid Drum Theater), and that was another one. Similar to Space Dye Vest, I really didn't like it at first. That said, even though it's not my favorite, it did click after a while and become one that I enjoy to a significant degree (though I could do without the...interesting sound effects during the breakdown in the middle).

The album Octavarium and the song Trial of Tears also took time to grow on me. However, not only did that happen, but they now rank pretty highly among my DT album and song choices.

That baseline was almost note for note. Not sure how I feel about john Myung straight ripping this off but I can’t lie I enjoy home way more.

You don’t even realize how crazy the stuff going on underneath the verses and vocals is. Trying to learn Strange Deja Vu right now and those rhythm parts are brutal lmao

From the composition, lyrics, melodies, and story just a far superior album. Curious to hear your thoughts!

We all know that Dream Theater excels in writing songs that go into one another. Whether it be the end of an album going into the next, albums that share melodies with the rest of the tracks, and medleys.

Now, take what you you already know about their catalogue and flip it on it’s head.

I’d like to hear a medley of DT songs that arent actually intended to go into eachother, but still work.

I’d love to see what some of you guys come up with!

Well, we may have bit off more than we can handle... but if there was an exercise in sound production... Why not just handle such complexities with a Dream Theater cover? The Ytse Jam. This track is still undergoing a LOT of work... but we believe it's at a barely acceptable point to share. There is much more to be altered with filtered, more tones, and giving the percussion line the absolute respect it deserves.

The title says it all. I'm looking for either an old WDADU shirt or a reprint is fine as well as long as it doesn't look like garbage. I have a few shirts from the recent tours and a couple of older grails (just got my hands on a local crew shirt from the Octavarium tour in mint, also have a Metropolis pt 2 tour shirt that I would be sad to lose but wouldn't be against giving up for a dope WDADU shirt), but I'd be willing to pay cash as well via Cashapp or PayPal. Best I can spend is probably 30 for a reprint, 80 for an original. I know that's not great, but if you have one and want to get rid of it, hit me with offers anyway.

I have wanted this shirt for over a decade and it's never come into my collection. Used to see them on eBay and stuff all the time but never really had the money, stars never aligned. I'm learning all of Scenes from a memory from start to finish and struggling with Dance of Eternity. For the segment before the bass solo, I've always played this part as a tapping lick but in both the tabs and official tab book, it's presented as pull off lick. For the life of me, I'm not getting it up to speed like the recording when played like this.

When I learned it by ear some 25 years ago, I played it like this:

It felt like the easiest way to get it up to speed like the recording. With the pull off lick, it's hard to get it up to speed. Is the passage from e to b string sweeped? Or is there an economy picking trick to it?

Secondly, with the bass unison progression played for 2 minutes, I get exhausted just getting through 30 seconds of that. How do we build up the endurance for getting through all that?

Score was released this day on August 29th, 2006. Recorded on April 1, 2006 at Radio City Music Hall, it might as well be the band's best video/live album and possibly one of the best live albums ever released. One of the most insane performances ever with the entirety of the second disc of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and playing the iconic Octavarium with an orchestra. It's between 7:00 and 7:23, at the end of the instrumental part. Why ? I really love that song, and it would probably be the best Dream Theater song if there wasn't that in the middle. I find that just ugly, but I never saw anybody talk about here.

So tell me what do you think about this moment, if you have an explantion or a reason to like it. Because I really want to like it. That's strange...

What pickups was JP using on his JP6 from SDOIT to Octavarium? From what I heard, he continued using the Air Norton in the neck, but used a modified version of the Steve’s Special in the bridge, and then switched to his signature D-Sonic for the bridge on SC. Am I correct?
