I'm sorry i just can't fathom their logic. because what do you mean you added male characters right before launch? they were not mentioned anywhere, not part in any beta tests. they already established an audience that likes the direction and thought "let's randomly add male characters at launch" and thinks their "target audience" is gonna like it? lol

"absolutely necessary for the narrative" what does that even mean??????? you could turn every character in genshin a male or female and it would STILL have the same story, nothing will change.

the only reason i could think of is they wanted publicity, because this is an absurd move, they wanted to be "controversial" to gain attention, because i swear this game has been gaining attention BECAUSE it added male characters out of nowhere.

Tbh I've noticed that not many read the dev logs or watch the streams and just directly play the game. So for those kind of players, it's a rather effective bait. They'll keep thinking it's a general game and someday a male will release while playing/saving pull currency. Saw this happen so many times.

i mean, there is project sekai, which has an overwhelmingly female cast with six male characters, but that one is a little different bc 1) instead of new characters being added, it's new cards/outfits for existing characters, and 2) even the female characters in the game are more made for female fans than male ones. i think in a game where the female characters are aimed at men, this won't work.

Mmyeah I noticed that recently there are a lot of loud people from the husbando enjoyers side who just wants everything (every new game) to be catered to them regardless of if the devs themselves want to or not and will insult it if it doesn't, if the developers don't wanna cater to husbando enjoyers so be it, it's their own game after all. In this case the devs already threw out the message even before release so you don't have scenarios where husbando enjoyers spend money on the game and then feel baited (in that case their anger is kinda more justified if so), so that's better no? But you still have people insulting the game and its main targeted playerbase even after the dev's early warning before launch.

Also I wonder why many people assume simply having a small handful of male characters instantly means they are trying to cater to the husbando enjoyer playerbase and think it's bait to attract them, not understanding that many waifu collectors may also want to play male characters once in a while especially if they are badass and cool for the power fantasy, they just may not want too many of them because female characters are still their priority when it comes to pulling. A 1:5 ratio would suit a mainly waifu enjoyer targeted playerbase just fine imo

ive had enough of sitting back and watching this same discourse rear its ugly head every single time, almost always driven by the same few people. ive had enough of seeing almost no pushback against what i observe to be very apparent bad behavior. ive had enough of seeing obvious double standards and hypocrisy

they are entitled for all the grace they are given. for too long now, has the wider community in many of these games given them a pass for their antics. im sick of it, so im calling it out. lord knows its always fair game to complain about ml, about self-insert waifuslop, about pandering to these problematic audiences etc. it only ever goes one way, never the other. their wrongdoings almost always get downplayed or overlooked. so im shedding light on them, im taking the opposing route, because i really have had quite enough

They don't even really want the husbando fans to actually play, they just recognize that husbando fans do a ton of free promotion for the fandoms they like via fanwork creation, social media posting and even literally buying billboard advertising for their favorites birthdays and so on in the case of CN fandom (CN Wanderer fans bought advertising for his birthday across China and even in Times Square NYC one year). They want that free advertising. Devs also like having a minority scapegoat playerbase for the main audience fans to shit on to distract them from demanding more out of the devs lol.
