(Global) News So apparently, Mongil, the game everyone thought is a pure waifu game, added 4 male characters OUT OF NOWHERE last minute, and that they're also the last male characters ever to be released

I'm sorry i just can't fathom their logic. because what do you mean you added male characters right before launch? they were not mentioned anywhere, not part in any beta tests. they already established an audience that likes the direction and thought "let's randomly add male characters at launch" and thinks their "target audience" is gonna like it? lol

"absolutely necessary for the narrative" what does that even mean??????? you could turn every character in genshin a male or female and it would STILL have the same story, nothing will change.

the only reason i could think of is they wanted publicity, because this is an absurd move, they wanted to be "controversial" to gain attention, because i swear this game has been gaining attention BECAUSE it added male characters out of nowhere.

but it's netmarble so i highly recommend don't Play it.

Lmao desperation move to avoid the "waifu gooner game" stigma that chases off mainstream players I guess. Also like this is the most insulting level yet of jangling keys to try and get male character fans to do free social media advertising for them. If they want to make an all-waifu game then make one, this half-assed nonsense just pisses everyone off. Waifu-only fans get angry because they don't want men or the mainstream audience in "their" games and husbando fans get angry because it's just pathetic baiting.

Countdown to EoS already started.

I don't even think it's a successful strategy. ZZZ has a few male characters (that imo still appeal to men more than they do women) and it's still widely regarded as a waifu gooner bait game. I don't even think it's pejoratively regarded as such, but it doesn't appeal to a lot of people for that reason and that's fair.

It's unsatisfying for everyone for sure. I'm taking a break from ZZZ because 2.x moved too far away from what I liked about 1.x in general but yeah the husbando fans are long gone by now. Companies always want that mainstream audience but just completely half-ass it so it ends up annoying everyone.

Like Azur Promilia for example is going for the audience it wants from the start so the people who want that kind of game are happy and the people not interested in that kind of game pass on it and don't get baited and misled. Way better for everyone than tricking people into playing who then get turned on and bullied by toxic members of the community for expecting to be treated fairly by a company that deliberately enticed them into playing.

Yep, ZZZ was really close to capturing the queer male gacha crowd with the fanservicey sexualisation of Lighter and Komano neatly fitting into bara tropes but then just... Stopped.

As for straight women, they've already lost interest due to Komano also being an A rank and the really boring design of female characters afterwards.

I infinitely respect gacha like Snowbreak or Gyee who actually go all in and cater to a community without trying to bait others only to disappoint. Especially for communities that are already so lacking in representation.

Yeah I'm a bi woman and the male character treatment became okay when Lighter released but inexplicably fell off terribly after Hugo; the actual last straw for me was how unappealing the post-AoD female character designs are. I love cute and sexy women who are also cool and have style; ZZZ had a ton of style and a cool nostalgic aesthetic at launch but it feels like somewhere in 2.x they changed design direction into pure fanservice at the expense of good design. Characters like Trigger and Jane and Evelyn and Rina and Burnice and Nicole are very sexy but still cool and the 3.0 girls especially are just not it for me. If I wanted pure horny over aesthetic I'd just play an actual porn game. 🥀
