Honor of Kings, average toxicity for a MOBA. PvP team play makes people miserable but it’s still massively popular.

But is hok the only popular moba in China? I thought LoL is pretty popular too

Honor of Kings is the most popular Moba in the world because Riot decided they were too good for mobile. Then they tried to crawl back with Wild Rift and half-assed everything. They thought they could just transfer PC popularity to mobile and failed.

Honor of Kings is ridiculously P2W as well. It is like old League runes but on crack.

P2W??? Girl, you aren’t paying for buffs. The only thing you pay for are cosmetics.

u/RedbullZombie May 04 '26

Cosmetics have always been the strongest buff

Lagging your opponents' potato phone is no joke

When the skin are literally gorgeous and outright game altering, it's understandable. They absolutely did not holding back, both ingame and character select ui are good.

HOK skins give you some extra stats.

In China maybe, because in global the only game that does that is mobile legends.

What are you on about P2W??? iap are only cosmetics and have no combat advantages at all, hell its even a negative sometime due to being so big and noticable.

which is kinda strange because didn't Tencent buy out Riot many, many years back? HoK is published by Tencent too, so you'd think they would push Riot to make a mobile LoL too after acquiring them, so they can have HoK for the majority asian audience (many of the heroes are based in chinese historic/mythical figures so I can imagine westerners might not vibe with them), and LoL mobile for the western audience

also hard disagree on HoK being P2W. I play quite a lot of it and the only thing you pay for is skins, they make really cool $40 premium skins, nobody really pays for the rune unlock thingy (you'll get them all and unlock all heroes if you play the game frequently enough) the same way people don't pay for the same thing in LoL

It wasn’t really certain whether it could succeed so riot was hesitant (part of it being looking down on mobile gaming) and refused to make a mobile version of LoL thus leading to HoK’s creation in the first place. After HoK’s success in China and MLBB’s outside of China, they finally wanted a piece of the pie and jumped in.

Also lot of LoL PC player looked down on mobile game platform,it just shame the moba craze doesn't hit off back when Vainglory still exist.

Honor of Kings is ridiculously P2W as well. It is like old League runes but on crack.

Huh? When I played it the Arcana is pretty much free everytime, I never had to worry about it

I never played league so I'm assuming runes=arcana

HoK is definitely not P2W at all, you can reach the top as a F2P if you are skilled enough and willing to throw a lot of time into it. Their skins can be quite expensive tho, so they still earn a fuck ton

u/Seraphine_KDA May 04 '26

If in any game you can buy a 0,1% advantage with money over the other player is a fucking pay to win game.

Any defense a out that point is stupid to even make. Either a game is fair or is not. You can enjoy unfair games but don't go defending them

I like world of tanks and you can buy literal premium bullets. But there is only 2 bug vehicle combat games and war thunder is the exact same p2w shit.

But in monas you have fair games like LoL no idea in mobile since I only tried mobile legends bam bam and that also had skins with stats so p2w.

Bonuses being small doesn't make it any less p2w

HoK does have skins that provide tiny extra stat, but you can get skins for free using in-game currency. You are really competing with people on equal footing.

4

u/Shiina011 May 04 '26

No? Tiny extra stat from skins should be Mobile Legends, not HoK

2

u/BluePhantomHere May 04 '26 edited May 04 '26

Wait, they don't have extra stat on HoK now? I remember playing the Chinese version a few years ago and they still have it. If skin doesn't provide any advantage, that makes the game even more F2P.

Edit: wow, they actually removed it https://www.taptap.cn/moment/479246494323444269

Yah and let me guess there is some very expensive skins that you can only pay and give more. Or a vip level for total spend or other bulahits that give "tinny" advantages. I know people refer to honor of kings as pay to win for a reason.

And let's be clear even lol rune pages where pay to win and you could earn them with in-game currency instead of buying new characters(the actual fun part). Just because you can grind something over a long ass time doesn't make it any less p2w.

Good pvp talents experiences have 0 and I repeat 0 power for sale.is a all or nothing thing. After that there is only different levels of bullshit.

We're lol rune pages would be low, world of tanks premium bullets medium, and Diablo immortal 1 vs 40 people pvp high lvl of bullshit.

Difference here being lol removed the rune system for this reason.so their game is no longer p2w.

7

u/BluePhantomHere May 04 '26

Nah man, every skin provide the same amount of stat, vip level doesn't give advantage in game. You can max out everything long before you even reach high rank where tiny stat actually matter. You happy now?

2

u/LeaveBron_Blames Blue Arknights May 04 '26

The only gap in the game tbh is who gets to pick meta jungler first (like Augran) and play it well, at least in my experience in master. Skins and any iap have less influence on ranking up, like most MOBA games (League, Mobile Legends, AOV, DOTA 2, etc.) so idk where's the "P2W" aspect of it, except flexing skins ig.

HOK is only popular in CN and its MLBB on every other country. This is only mobile, so there's that against LOL

u/MaturesEnjoyer May 04 '26

What is p2w about honor? I play honor and that's lie.
