Ik woon in het centrum van Gent, speel zelf in een band, en ontdek graag lokale bands en artiesten. Ik vind het echter niet altijd zo makkelijk om te weten welke concerten eraan komen in alle venues, laat staan wat iets voor mij is. Om die reden heb ik een kleine tool gemaakt die het volgende doet:

• Het verzamelt de concertagenda's van Missy Sippy, VIERNULVIER, Wintercircus, Charlatan, Trefpunt, Ringo Music Bar en Bar Lume (+ een stuk van UiTinVlaanderen) voor de komende 3 maanden.

Je kan ofwel eerst in de playlist gaan luisteren wat je aanstaat, of omgekeerd werken en in de tabel gaan kijken welke bands de komende dagen bij jou in de buurt spelen. Als je een andere service dan youtube music gebruikt (zoals ikzelf) kan je bijvoorbeeld soundiiz gebruiken om eens per week alle tracks van bovenstaande playlist naar je eigen playlist te laten overzetten (free tier - 1 recurring sync toegelaten).

Het is een hobbyproject, niet commercieel — geen tracking, geen ads. Alle feedback is welkom, zeker ook uitbreiding met nieuwe venues binnen of buiten Gent!

I live in the center of Ghent, play in a band myself, and love discovering local bands and artists. I don't always find it easy to know which concerts are coming up across all the venues, let alone which ones are actually my thing. So I built a small tool that does the following:

• It collects the concert listings from Missy Sippy, VIERNULVIER, Wintercircus, Charlatan, Trefpunt, Ringo Music Bar and Bar Lume (+ a chunk of UiTinVlaanderen) for the next 3 months.

• Everything comes together in one sortable table with ticket links: https://gillesgerlo.github.io/gent-concerts-playlist/

• For every new artist, it automatically adds their 2 most popular songs to a YouTube Music playlist (the only major platform I could find with a free API for adding songs).
• The code is open source on GitHub: you can run it yourself, add venues, or filter out genres (you can also filter out certain genres in the config file, purely personal taste): https://github.com/gillesgerlo/gent-concerts-playlist

You can either start by listening through the playlist to find what you like, or work the other way around and check the table for which bands are playing near you in the coming days. If you use a different service than YouTube Music (like I do), you can, for example, use Soundiiz to sync all the tracks from the playlist above to your own playlist once a week (free tier — 1 recurring sync allowed).

It's a hobby project, non-commercial — no tracking, no ads. All feedback is welcome, especially suggestions for new venues in or outside Ghent!

Ik ben op zoek naar een studentenvereniging waar ik echt mijn mensen in kan vinden. Ik ben op zoek naar een meer obscure studentenvereniging met wat alternatievere mensen. Ik merk vaak dat die verenigingen (zoals moeder Theepot en Prometheus) me iets minder liggen door de meer "online" leden.

Ik ben op zoek naar een vereniging met leden die zowel alternatief als niet te socially Awkward zijn. Ik ben ook geen fan van te traditionele verenigingen als WiNa bijvoorbeeld, ik ben geen fan van cantussen. Eventueel mogen ze bij mijn interesses aansluiten. Ik ben een zeer links persoon, die houdt van muziek, reizen en geografie, een stapje in de wereld zetten en Pokémon.

Andere suggesties dan studentenverenigingen zijn ook altijd welkom. Alvast bedankt!

I've participated in photography exhibitions where I have been living and met a lot of really good friends. I also like live music and going to bars and cafes.

Last week I’ve lost an earring which I miss dearly. I’ve got it last year from my boyfriend during our lovely stay in Gent. Maybe some local can help me find the store so I can try to buy a new one? I was there march 2025. It was a small jewelry store, with trendy designs. Like I remember they had earrings with a little red chili pepper and some big statement rings. The store was located on a street with a lot of other stores and it was crowded in the streets on a Saturday. I also think that the St. Bavo Cathedral wasn’t far, but maybe I’m mixing things up.
My earring is a small stripe of metal with 10 stones in rainbow coloring, right at the end of the stripe is a little chain which is connected to the back piece. On the back pice is “Ag925 B808” written.

If anyone can help me I would be so so thankful! 🫶🏻

Ik ben recent beginnen zwemmen, heel casual om wat meer beweging te hebben na m'n IT job.
Aangezien LAGO Rozenbroek beschikt over een olympisch zwembad, heb ik gekozen om er een jaarabonnement aan te schaffen.
Het liefst ga ik rond 19u in de week, maar moet dan vaak een zwembaan (22m/25m) delen met 2-4 andere zwemmers.
Vaak is een aanzienlijk deel in beslag genomen door Aquasport, sommige banen zijn dan ook gereserveerd en er blijft ongeveer de helft van het sportbad over voor de rest.

Is de avond meestal een druk moment? Of is dit vooral te wijten aan de recente hittegolven + zomervakantie?

Kan je de kleine finale van morgen ergens live volgen? Op café ofzo?

Over the past weeks I've manually compiled 150+ active startups in Ghent and put them on a map.

Not scraped from one directory. I pulled from company sites, funding announcements, accelerator and fund portfolios. Nothing fancy, just trying to get a real geographic overview of who's building what, and where.

Really cool to see the clusters, where startups are concentrated, such as in Wintercircus.

The goal is simple: make it easier to discover what's being built in this city, especially if you're looking for a startup job and don't want to reactively rely only on LinkedIn's algorithm or a static job board.

This is a snapshot, not "the full Ghent ecosystem." It's biased toward companies that are more visible online. Early-stage and stealth teams are probably underrepresented.

If I've missed obvious ones (very possible), drop them below. If you're building something and want it included, let me know :)

The idea is to keep expanding and make this genuinely useful for the startup community instead of just another static list!

So for the record, I have never actually lived in Gent, but I have done a LOT of research about different cities live in the world. Considering everything from employment opportunities, to the quality of public services, safety, beauty of the architecture, affordability, culture, etc. I have found no city as good as Gent. It is genuinely impressive how it has almost no flaws. It has a good economy, with a good job market relative to it's size. It is also close enough to Brussels to a commuter town. It is one of the greenest most bike-friendly cities in the world. It is quite safe, even for European standards. (According to Numbeo it's the safest city in Belgium, which itself is a very safe country by global standards) English fluency is quite high especially among the younger generation. It is not big and overcrowded like London, Seoul or NYC, but it still has anything one needs from a city, from museums and opera salons to concerts and festivals. It is diverse and open to outsiders, but hasn't lost it's cultural identity the way many big cities do either. Belgians in general are some of the most open minded and progressive people on earth, in terms of women's rights, LGBT rights, etc. and even amongst Belgian cities, Gent seems to have a reputation for being progressive.

Furthermore, both in terms of architecture, and the quality of real estate, it is simply beautiful. It might genuinely be the most beautiful city on earth amongst cities in which people still live, rather than cities like Venice that have turned into theme parks.

Am I idealising this city too much? I can't seem to find a negative about it.

For a few months now, 3-4 times a week at 5AM there's a motorcycle revving through my street that wakes me up. Really annoying!! I think the person delivers mail as he takes like 3 minutes to get through the street. I tried using earplugs but it's just annoying that this has to be my only solution? Is there anything I can do about this besides using earplugs? I wanted to ask some reddit opinions before going to the police.

It was fine a year ago, but after not using it for that period it now displays error EF0 which means there's a leak somewhere or the filter is clogged (I tried to fix the latter, no luck).

It's an AEG Electrolux Lavamat 76800.

I've tried Kringwinkel but they haven't replied yet.

Just thought I'd post it here, maybe someone knows how to fix it and wants to take it out of my hands.
