What was THE WORST gift you ever received?

I know this might get taken down since it's a question and not a post, but I'm really hoping you guys are empathetic to my quandry. If not that's fine, rules are rules.

I really pride myself on my gift giving abilities. I used to work at a boutique in college and even year over year had customers who would come to me and make shopping appointments to shop for friends and family after successful selections from years prior. I don't say it to brag, but I hope you'll all appreciate where I'm coming from on the art of tailoring a gift to a person.

My partner, however, doesn't seem to get it. He's gotten me two gifts now, and I'm seeing a pattern; if you glance at the gift it's really cute, personal, and makes a lot of sense. If you think about it for longer than a minute, though, both of these gifts are somehow related to tragedy (one objective but related in context to me as a person, the other related to a personal tragedy only two months ago).

I have no poker face and opened the first right in front of him; cue awkward, painful conversation about why it missed the mark. My whole family now even has an inside joke about the gift, it was so wild (they'd never say it to his face). This one.... I haven't been able to bring myself to approach it. I didn't have to open this one in front of him, so I do believe he's under the impression that it was a great gift. He is going to take it SO personally, and I'm stuck between knowing I'm not being entirely honest and knowing I would want the whole truth, and trying to twist my own arm into sucking it up and being gracefully grateful.

Can any of you share stories about how you've handled this before as the recipient who presumably takes gifting quite seriously? I'm seeing and getting from my mom a lot of "just tell them exactly what you want next time" and "it's the thought that counts." The thought does count, but I really don't even want this thing in my house.... Any advice or thoughts or stories are so welcomed! TIA!

Curious to know if anyone would like to use a free desktop app I’ve created to make wishlists?

I know there are probably a bazillion of these sorts of tracking or list apps, but a) I am a creative and love to make things so it was a fun piece to learn and create b) I come from a family of gift givers and keeping track becomes chaotic lol and c) I especially appreciate clean, minimal visuals.

You can collaborate on a board, share a board and let others mark if they’ve bought the item without the owner seeing it, add a profile for each person so you don’t forget things like they’re clothing size, fav coffee order, all that good stuff. You can also add things that aren’t a store-bought gift, like experiences, or something handmade.

At the moment when adding a link for an item, I’ve got it working to auto-fill info like the price, item name, and description from most retail sites, but there are some pages (generally larger retailers) that I’m trying to get it to work on.

I’ve also made a chrome extension, so when you’re on a retail page you can quickly add something to a board.

My boyfriend’s birthday is coming up and I’m kinda stuck on what to get him. I want it to be something he’ll actually use but I also don’t want it to feel like a basic birthday gift.

Our anniversary is coming up and I’m stuck on what to get my girlfriend. She likes simple sleepwear, so I’ve been looking at a long silk pajama set from SilkSilky, either dark red or navy.

Would that feel like a nice anniversary gift or a little too practical? Also not sure if I should ask her size and ruin the surprise.

It took her a lot of time to perfect the stitches for the lilies and tulips. Because these are real, physical handmade pieces, I wanted to make sure they look exactly as warm and delicate on camera as they do in real life. We went with a simple kraft paper wrapping to really highlight the yarn texture and that authentic handmade feel.

They aren't into girly things. The elder one loves STEM stuff. Want to get something they can share and play with. Preferably under 20$. Already got them clothes and hair things. They live in a south indian metro city and visit their grandparents village often. So anything that works either in their apartment in the city or the village works. Thanks.
