Finally completed my basement sim. Retractable screen to maximize space. It has been usable since January but finally complete. Yes, you hit at a window. No, balls have never hit it or came close.

Hitting Mats / Flooring Big Moss True Launch Insert!

Post image
9 Upvotes

After 6 months of hitting off my GoSports hitting mat on top of interlocking gym floor, I finally went in on a hitting strip. After months of research and finding the right one for my joints and the height of my mat I landed on a Big Moss True Launch insert. I just wanna say it’s been incredible for the price. My joints feel better and the responsiveness of the mat + numbers on the sim feel much more true if I mishit a shot. If you are considering getting a hitting strip I’d highly recommend it and consider checking out Big Moss. I feel like it’s hard to beat the quality for the price.

Screens / Enclosures Anyone using curtain tracks for an impact screen?

I’m putting together a budget garage simulator with an MLM2PRO, projector, hitting mat, and impact screen.
Instead of doing a motorized roller screen, I was thinking about mounting a heavy-duty/flexible curtain track to the ceiling and hanging the impact screen from it. When I want to use the sim, I’d slide the screen across the garage and secure the bottom corners. When I’m done, unhook it and slide/bunch the whole screen off to one side.

Has anyone done something similar?

Mainly wondering:
What curtain track did you use?
Are the rollers/carriers strong enough to handle ball impacts?
How did you attach the screen to the track?
Did you weight or secure the bottom?
Any issues with the screen moving too much or the carriers popping out?

Seems like it could be a really cheap/simple alternative to a $700+ retractable roller setup, but I’d love to hear from anyone who has actually tried it.

So I think I'm pretty much done with my Sim build. 10x8 Amazon Enclosure, BenQ AK500ST 1080p projector, Asus ROG Strix G18 5080 laptop, Carl's Place 1.25" flooring, Big Moss hitting strip, Samsung 55in Tv, Elite Sim Flex 4 GS Pro wireless controller. So happy with it. Still trying to figure out if I can fill the screen or not.

Sim / Launch Monitor Need advice on an indoor sim that I can set up and put away easily

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have kind of a weird set up where I have vaulted ceilings in the main bedroom of our house and it's the only spot where the ceilings are high enough in my house. I want to put a sim in that can be set up and put away quickly and easily so that it's not in the way most of the time. I have a few questions about LM set up and I'm also jut wondering if people have any general advice or recommendations.

For the mat I feel like I can just pick one but if you have reccs great

For the net I was going to get a spornia that pops up

The LM/Sim situation is really where I need advice. I really want impact location because I feel like I tend to hit it all over the face if my swing is off and having that feedback at lessons has been helpful. I think the ideal one is the Garmin R50 since it has the screen on it but I don't really want to spend $5k. I have an iPad so it would be nice to just have the sim on that with a tripod. Another option could be putting like a 65 inch TV on the dresser. Also the GS Pro software seems to be the consensus best option but I'd prefer not to have to buy a $1000 PC since I just have a Macbook. People seem to be really excited for the Square Omni and it seems like I could just put the software on my iPad. I just don't really get what's going on with it. It seems like some people have it but also doesn't seem to be out yet. I've also heard that their customer service is horrible. Another option could be the mevo gen2 with impact location add-on, I think I have enough room for it. The Bushnell subscription fee is insane, I'm not paying $500 a year so that one is out. For those that are more experienced with sim set-ups than me, am I crazy? Any suggestions?

Garmin approach r10, has anyone tried these launch monitors?

Looking to put a sim in my garage on a budget. I’ve heard you can use any balls with these, the set up is supposed to be simple, and there isn’t many problems. How was your experience using this?

Austin TX - Fiberbuilt Player Preferred Series Studio Golf Mat – Center Hitting – 9' x 4'

Selling a brand-new Fiberbuilt Player Preferred Series Studio Golf Mat – Center Hitting – 9' x 4'.

I purchased this mat for my golf simulator setup, but after getting everything laid out, I realized I’m not going to be able to use it in my space. I looked into returning it to Fiberbuilt, but because of the size and weight of the mat, the return shipping cost would eat up a significant portion of the refund. Rather than spend the money shipping it back, I figured I’d see if someone here could use it.

The mat is 100% brand new, unused, and still completely in the original box/packaging. It has never been assembled or hit off of.

Located in Austin, Texas, and local pickup would be strongly preferred given the size and weight, but I can also arrange to deliver it anywhere in Central Texas.

Asking: $1,000 (current list price at Fiberbuilt is $1,599)

Happy to provide proof of purchase, additional photos of the boxes, or any other information.

Attaching projector to the enclosure

Ok I need some input from some one who has a 3x:x3 enclosure from golf bays, I ordered the projector mounting arm they sell which states 3 metre enclosure. I wanted to have it mounted to the bay as don’t want it on the floor and the ceiling is too high for me to mount it from. They are saying it’s not suitable to be on a 3 metre bay but they are selling it stating it’s for a metre bay? Slightly confused

Muni Golf Sim Dev Update

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I've given an update on the development of Muni Golf Sim. We've had great support since we launched in April and have made a ton of improvements to the software while still being 100% free. Here's a few of the new features we've added in the last few months.

  • AI-generated practice holes. Describe the hole you would like to play such as "A short par 3 around 120 yards to a large island green" and the hole is automatically generated in a few seconds.
  • New game modes. Match play, scramble, shamble, alt shot, wolf and more.
  • Dynamic weather & time of day. Control the exact conditions to play in such as rain, wind, fog and lightning.
  • In-depth stat tracking. Every shot is tracked and synced to your account with round history, dispersion charts, strokes gained, and a handicap.
  • Tons of course builder improvements to make it even easier for you to build your local course in a few hours.

Many more features are in the pipeline so stay tuned and hop in our discord if you run into any issues or have a feature request. If you haven't tried us out yet you can download it for Windows and Linux at https://munigolfsim.com

Screen behind a net?

I’m putting a practice area together, not a full sim (yet). I have a large podiumax net that works well outside. Any reason not to put a cheap screen up behind the net for indoor use? The obvious reason not to is that the net pattern will project onto the screen. I’m less interested in using as a sim, moreso to have real data projected in front of me while I practice. This seems like an obvious simple solution. Rhapsody MLM 2 pro in my garage if it matters.

Is it big enough? No. But can I play a round with my son without leaving the house? Absolutely yes.

Work in progress, new projector coming to fill the screen and will be able to pull the screen tighter next week. Garage up and over switching out to hinged doors to give more headroom.

It's not perfect.

But whatever. It works now and I've been able to spend some quality time teaching my son how to play (and a lifetime of frustration!) in the last few days.

Indoor Only GSPro Launch Monitor Suggestion

Looking for some suggestions on a good launch monitor for running GSPro.

I have a 11' Carl's Place enclosure and a 4K projector. I have a gaming laptop that can handle 1440p (potential future upgrade to run 4k). This will be in my garage with 11 foot ceilings. The space I have to work with is roughly 20 feet deep and 14 feet wide.

I have no intention to take this outside and bring it to the range.

I'm looking to run GSPro and play SGT and improve my game as a serious golfer.

I am open to spending as much as 7,000 for the LM if it is a serious upgrade, but prefer the 2-4,000 range.

Side note - saw the deal for ST Max plus for 1600. Is this a steal at this price?

Sim / Launch Monitor Square Omni detection problems indoors

Anybody having issues where the square Omni is not detecting when you hit a ball?

Situation

  • Indoor off a mat with a green divot mat
  • Omni is raised level with mat
  • Omni is on the right facing the net
  • sofa and full glass doors on the right with vertical blinds block out
  • LED downlights inside
  • paired with Android tablet

During the day I still have the indoor lights on and everything seems to be working 100%

In the evenings sometimes it does not detect when I hit the ball.

When it fails

when it fails, it detects the ball and is ready. And then I hit the ball and nothing happens. The unit does not detect any movement and the Android app does not detect anything.

The unit goes back to blinking searching for a ball

  • Doesn't make a difference whether it is foam or real ball
  • Whether it is a white or yellow ball
  • Tried drawing the 5 dot pattern on some balls, didn't help
  • Fails when i swing faster than 65mph
  • If i make a slow swing, it detects
  • I have tried turning the lights up and turning the lights down and it does not seem to help

Any ideas why it fails, and how to make it work? I'm not sure if it needs more light or less light. Whether it prefers the sheen of real balls or the non-reflectiveness of foam balls

Sim / Launch Monitor Vtrack owners - Why does it say the hitting area is 31” wide but in every video it appears that is the depth?

In almost every YouTube video when calibrating the Vtrack it looks like the hitting area is 31” deep x 24” wide and not 31” wide x 24” deep like advertised?

Wall protection

Anyone have any suggestions for wall protection? Im currently thinking of using 4in foam with some 4 way stretch fabric attaching to 1/4 ply. Then using industrial grade velcro to attach to my walls. Only going with 4in foam since I will have a 4in gap on all sides of my screen.

Hitting Mats / Flooring Sigpro Softy issues

Thumbnail gallery
4 Upvotes

I replaced my fiber built mat for a few reasons, one of which was how hard it was on my elbow.

Got the Sig Pro softy 4x7 and loved how it hits and performs.

However, huge issue in that in the first 30 days the mat has ripped. From what I can tell hitting down on the strip sort of forces against the lip of the mat itself and has created a tear.

Indoor Golf Shop is processing the warranty claim but I’m concerned it could just happen again.

Anyone seen this before?

Hitting area base options

Moving houses, so obviously my main focus was room for my sim in the garage. The are where there screen and enclosure will fit is a few inches higher than the rest of the garage floor- anyone have pics or ideas of a wood frame that I could build for the hitting area? Seems like it would be pretty simple, but just curious if someone has done it already

VTrack in commercial setup

Would anyone have problems with a Vtrack in a small three bay unmanned commercial setup? As opposed to the Uneekor eye XR? Or most other launch monitors?
Probably won’t have any pros showing up or doing fittings. Hoping to eventually do lessons maybe.
