Official forums full post.

[Major New Features]

  • Grim Dawn has received back-end changes to accommodate the release of the Fangs of Asterkarn Expansion.
  • The game’s UI has received a complete visual overhaul. A new Health Orb design HUD is now the default, while the classic Health Bar design can be enabled in the game options, under Interface.
  • The Stash has been overhauled with new dedicated Component and Crafting Materials shared pages and +5% additional space per tab. In addition, stash pages can now be customized and labeled.
  • New functionality has been added to the player inventory to instantly deposit all Components and Crafting Materials in their shared tabs from anywhere in the world. To support this, objects that ask for crafting materials (ex. Treasure Troves), can now also access the stash instead of just the inventory.
  • New accessibility control schemes have been added under Keybindings: Keyboard Movement and Keyboard Only, enabling WASD-based controls with and without the mouse. You can set keybinds for WASD movement independently of the default controls and switch between them at any time. WASD controls mimic the controller and do not enable run and gun gameplay.
  • Detailed tooltips now display stat roll ranges (ex. 12 Fire damage [8-14] indicates that the damage could have rolled as low as 8 or as high as 14).
  • A new Video Option has been added: HDR Lighting, as an alternate visual style for the game.
  • Monster Infrequents now always drop at the highest possible level (ex. if an MI drops, and possible variations in your level range are level 84 and 94, it will always drop the level 94 version).

[Shattered Realm]

  • Clearing Shards by hunting down Nemesis spawns has become a too dominant strategy, reducing the viability of AoE builds in favor of single target burst, which is already favored in the boss arenas. To address this, Shard Progress from gathering a Nemesis soul has been reduced by 25%. Progress gained from Hero souls has been increased by 33%, and by 50% from Common and Champion souls. Chance of Champion monsters dropping souls has been increased by 18%.
  • The Shattered Realm timer has been rebalanced to be more challenging and now becomes shorter at higher shards. Timer penalty from deaths is now lower, but bonus from kill streaks is now also lower and kill streaks now require a minimum of 25 kills, up from 15.
  • Shattered Realm shrines no longer take crafting materials and activate immediately upon interaction.

[Crucible]

  • Unlocking the next Crucible difficulty now also triggers at Wave 110 and Wave 160, rather than requiring clearing the Crucible Waves 1-100.
  • Failing the Crucible on the same tier as a checkpoint no longer awards Tribute.

[Tech]

  • Fixed an issue where converted dot damage from a single source would not stack (ex. converting dot damage on Scourge Strike so the damage types match).
  • Fixed an issue where UI scaling could cause monster and pet health bars to break.
  • Skill modifiers are now always loaded in a fixed order, rather than equip order. This is relevant particularly for how skill FX and pet swap modifiers function so the visual overrides always happen in a predictable order.

[Modding]

  • A new template has been added: Skill_WPAttack_Radius. This skill type generates a radius eruption around the target when the WPS triggers, similar to how Shattering Smash for Oathkeeper generates a wave.
  • New attributes have been added: % Total Resist and % Crowd Control Resist. These increase all the respective resists, similar to how % Total damage increments all damage types.
  • Channeled skills (ex. Albrecht’s Aether Ray) now apply Defensive Attributes in their data to the player while the skill is channeling. Defensive attributes have been added to their respective templates.
  • A new tDyn field has been added: forceHighestLevel. Setting this to True will cause the loot table to always drop the highest level valid item it can within the level range.
  • Skill modifiers assigned to SkillSecondary effects now display the SkillSecondary’s name and icon instead of the base skill.

[Game]

  • Menu UI windows now scale with UI scaling. UI now automatically scales down to fit the screen at lower resolutions, enabling controller UI compatibility at any resolution.
  • Increased Health per point of Spirit to 12, up from 8.
  • Treasure Troves now correctly have a guaranteed chance to drop a crafting material with a 30-50% (based on difficulty) chance to drop an additional material and have significant chance to drop blueprints. Previously, the chance to drop a second material was 100% across all difficulties and the chance to drop a blueprint was halved.
  • Aether Crystal enemies now have an additional chance to drop a second Aether Crystal/Shard/Cluster.
  • Increased all Boss Health scaling with level, by ~32% at level 100 (~15% for superbosses). Some bosses with lower health pools received larger increases. These changes do not apply to the Crucible.
  • Many older boss encounters have received tuning passes to bring their damage up to modern standards, as was commonly done in past updates.
  • Reduced Monster Armor by 17% on Champion+ enemies and reduced Monster % Armor Absorption by 20% on all enemies. This reduces monster resistance to Physical damage, particularly for small fast attacks (ex. dual wielding or Eye of Reckoning).
  • Reduced Monster % Life Leech Resist on Ultimate difficulty. This makes % Attack damage Converted to Health roughly 16% more effective against an average boss.
  • In-game search has been updated to work with unicode (ie. non-English) characters.
  • Reduced infamy gained from killing Beast heroes and bosses and increased kills required to spawn their Nemesis.
  • Increased infamy gained from killing Cronley’s Gang heroes and bosses and reduced kills required to spawn their Nemesis.
  • Enemies that do not grant experience (ex. summons or Kubacabra’s clones) no longer count towards achievement progress.
  • Valdaran and Archmage Aleksander now share their animosity towards you and will spawn in each other’s faction areas.

[Itemization]

  • Fixed an issue where Monster Infrequent helms could roll some lower level than intended Magic Suffixes at level 70+.
  • Ashes of Malmouth and Forgotten Gods Magic quality crafting recipes have been reclassified as Rare. These recipes now always generate at least one Rare affix, but their crafting costs have been increased.

The lack of FOMO and seasonal stuff is probably my favorite thing about Grim Dawn, and keeps me coming back.

I really hate one thing about the current ARPG trends, the relentless three month seasons. Every big game now runs on that cycle, and I think they try to keep it out of sync so you can play both games if you want to. This makes the games feel kind of like work for me tbh, and no matter how much effort I put in I just don’t have enough free time, I always end up feeling like I didn’t get to experience the season “fully”.

I have pretty limited free time these days. When I do decide to play something, I don’t want to feel bad that I can’t nolife it for a week. Just let me enjoy the game at my own pace jeez. I know people will say that I can just not engage with the seasonal stuff, but that’s like impossible when they dangle it in front of your nose the whole time.

Grim Dawn is the perfect antidote to this live service poison, none of that seasonal live service stuff. And the game is better off for it, people are still jumping in now in 2026 and nobody feels like they missed out on anything. It made me realize that while I love ARPGs, I actually hate live service, so now I’m pretty much only interested in games without that, or singleplayer ones.

While Grim Dawn is still the undisputed king of this, I’ve had some fun with Dragonkin recently, it was fun for a bit but I don't think I will come back to it. I’m also pretty hyped for The Dark West, my favorite GD characters all use guns and this is a fully western themed game so everyone uses guns, and the demo is really nice. It's also singleplayer so none of that live service stuff there either.

I love the feeling of logging into one of my ancient characters that I haven’t played in like 2 years and everything still works just the same, and I can pick up where I left off. I hate it when devs change stuff and suddenly your decent character is complete garbage since they nerfed your main skill, and that’s pretty much inevitable in the live service titles. Grim Dawn stood the test of time precisely because the devs understand what the game is and don’t keep changing it to “keep the players engaged” ugh.

Why am I enjoying this game so much more than D4 and PoE2?

This game has consumed my life this past week. I don't remember purchasing this game, it must have been like 5 years since I purchased it and forgot it in my Steam library. A couple years ago I tried booting it up, was a little turned off by the overall presentation of the game after playing D4 and PoE2, set it down and didn't pick it up again until last week. Idk, something told me to just give the game a shot and man am I glad I did.

The game is a blast. I love the pacing, freedom to try builds (I'm doing an off-meta RATA Battlemage as my first playthrough) Being able to make informed leveling decisions without having my eyes glued to Maxroll. gg . THE GEAR OH MAN THE GEAR I unironically love games that have infinite combinations of statted gear. All the tiny tiny differences in numbers, to getting a build breaking affix, rolling for gear over and over until you get a piece of gear that's better than what you even had in mind and makes you rethink your build and then changing skills etc. for basically free. This weekend I was playing the game for 6-8 hour sessions I couldn't put it down. I'd seriously quit my job to just play this game. (/hyperbole, but seriously lol)

That said, I really do appreciate D4 and PoE2 for what they are.. but I could never play them for more than like an hour at a time. Something about playing them just left me feeling exhausted and unrewarded. I'm really trying to understand what it is about Grim Dawn that keeps me hooked and enthused during an 8 hour session. It makes me wish PoE2 or D4 shared more similarities with GD or something because they're fun but idk I just can't get into them. I guess I'm kinda wondering if anyone else has had a similar type of experience to mine? I'm pretty new to the ARPG scene as things go, I'm 35 and didn't really look at the genre until D4 came out. So I'm wondering if my taste is just geared more towards classic style ARPGs versus the more modernized versions? I'd say give me some other ARPG recs that I might like but I honestly will be pretty consumed with this game for the foreseeable future lol

Got the new DLC. Backups made. Everything deleted expect for the illusions.... Gonna be a Reaver I think. Even though I know the game mostly, I am open to any suggestions for builds and maybe what changed. Definitely gonna use Berserker as one mastery. :D

HELP! I heard Physique is the most popular attribute. Should i focus on it even if i aim to make a spellcaster character (eg using arcanist active skills)?

HELP! Opinions on FoA

Would Love to hear some opinions on the new DLC. It currently sits on mixed reviews on steam, a lot of people criticising the direction they took with the dlc. With a big but empty map, bad quest design, story subpar to the other dlcs, the new class being kind of underwhelming and an increase in overall difficulty/bad balancing and more focus on active dodging.

I loved grim dawn so far but havn't bought the dlc yet and was kind of surprised when i saw a lot of negative reviews which made me kind of hold off on buying it. Especially the difficulty part worries me a bit, since i am mostly interessted in just trying and tinkering on new selfmade builds and not min/maxing and following guides. What are folks here thinking? Every opinion appreciated.

BUILDS Nightforged Evoker.

Here is my Evoker using the Nightforged set with Deathshriek. It melts through everything on Ascendant and is a lot of fun to play. I've killed the Dread and Mogdrogen but yet to try Callagadra. Still working on my Ascendant bonuses but this is my current set up. Thanks for looking :)

HELP! DA and monster crit damage multipliers

A while back I remember reading that Defense Ability should be your last priority because most monsters have a crit multiplier of 1.1 - even the bosses.

Now I see a lot of advise about boosting DA for Ascended Mode. What is justifying this advice?

Thanks.

What do ya'all consider the best cold devotion page(s) for cold dualwield melee?

I dunno why but I've always felt lost with is damage type. Maybe because there are too many options?

BUILDS Mystic help for ascendant mode.

Hello all,

Played a bit in the past but jumped back in for FOA. First character to level 100 looking for advice on where/what to improve first.

At the moment the playstyle is fairly high DPS autos with onslaught to build stacks for doom bolt. lots of RR. Got a blueprint for the Aurora relic, farming the mats for that as the proc seems really good defensively.

Looking at moving devotions around maybe as well as boosting up the doombolt damage more(rolls on the pistols maybe?) . Feels pretty tanky until a random one shot and damage is good but not fantastic.

BUILDS Aegis Build Reccomendations

Aloo! I just started playing a few days ago and I want to make an aegis build but am struggling to find up to date builds and info on the game. I was wondering what other mastery would be a good pair for aegis oathkeeper.

I've seen some cool stuff with lightning shaman but was wondering if there are any other neat synergies.

BUILDS Fire devotions on an EoR build

Upvotes

Not sure which way to go on this. It FEELS like with a spazzer ability like EoR you should go for superlow cooldown devotions like the two at the bottom, Mirage or Sage. But Empyrion way up in the top right has really good stats (REALLY good health especially) and the advantage of being tied to a defensive ability instead, a consideration for the kind of EoR builds I like where there's not a whole lot of tertiary attacks being used (mostly just gap closers). Witchblade will be tied to the glowy dudes of course, but Rhowan will need to be tied to something, Phoenix might need to be tied to something, so if you have to put EoR to Mirage or Sage, you have to find two other attacks to set those up with.

I'm just not sure which direction people tend to go. How do you guys set your devotions in a low apm fire eor build?

Altering Mechanic for Rerolling Affixes

So I haven’t started the FoA expansion content yet (but did purchase the expansion), and I was curious how this rerolling affixes mechanic works? I don’t want to sit and farm for the perfect Spectral Warmaul to get me through to my end-game gear if I can just reroll the one I have (only needs one affix change).

BUILDS Venomous Werewolf

Hi!

This is my first original build in FoA.

While playing tru the dlc, in my first run I saw that Sylvarria now drops a new amulet that changes Werewolf's damage to poison, then I looked for a set to support it and saw that the Deathguard set also adds poison and reduces the CD of the leap skill.

I originally posted in the crate forums because the build was bad and I was looking for advice. I took some tips from a reply and now the build is a bit better. At least I was able to complete SR30-31 on time. He's not the celestial killer like the meta, chaos werewolf but I think he's more fun and engaging to play. I still have to test some devotion setups to see what can be improved..

Feel free to steal any ideas from it, critique it, etc..

how does 'tip of scales' work exactly?

I've been using this devotion (Tip the scales from Scales of Ulcama) for my blitz warlord and I believe it has served me great as a sustain devotion, but I'm not sure. Maybe my heals are coming from 'Maul' only instead. So like, when 'tip the scales' is triggered, would my next attack (example: blitz) heal me of 109% of the damage I dealt?

I'm new to grim dawn and as you might have surmised, I have made a total of 2 posts in this sub recently. Additionally, on the third picture. The 'healing effects increased by X%', does it affect how much I heal from 'X% of attack damage converted to health' aspect?
Thanks.

HELP! Looking for advice on my dual-wielding fire Purifier + some questions

Hey guys, this is the second ever character I created and the first one with which I finished the story (+expansions) on normal. I am level 100 and currently playing on ulitmate, I just reached Fort Ikon. GrimTools link: https://www.grimtools.com/calc/NXlPbBXN

I originally followed this guide, but I think it might be a bit outdated. I have already changed the devotions based on some reddit threads I've read. Do you have any advice on the devotions/spells?

Generally, I feel a bit squishy. I encoutnered some of the Nemesis bosses (like the electrodude that swaps place with you, or the guy that dumps the big aether meteorite on you), and they absolutely wrecked me. I even have trouble with Cronley, if I do not constantly kite him. I did a bit of SR on normal, but I think I started having difficulties around level 12...

Items-wise, I am aiming for the Dagallon set, I got one of the guns yesterday, but no luck with the rest or the recipe yet. I chose most of my equipment pieces based on resistances, once I understood that those should be (over-)capped. But now I am not sure how to proceed. For example, if I find a breast armor that gives 400 armor more, but does not enhance Static Strike, I am not sure if it is worth the tradeoff. I think my OA/DA are too low, but does that mean I should prioritize equipment that gives OA/DA over equipment that gives % fire damage? I could do with some general advice here!

Also some general questions (I swear I had more but this is all I can think of right now):

  • Now that I am level 100, I don't loose anything when dying, right?
  • Would you recommend continuing the story, or should I farm totems until I have my Dagallon set? I am not sure if I will be able to beat all bosses.
  • Is using Frozen Aster/Skeleton Key at the Ascension Altar for better loot worth it at my level?
  • I don't have the crucible expansion - is this worth looking into? Sounds similar to SR...

Thanks in advance for any advice that you have :)

BUILDS Help with Rot Regurgitator Blood Knight Veilwalker

Hey everyone, here is what I have so far:

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/ZwRK0EqV

Last time I asked about this it was largely incomplete. I think this is much more fleshed out. I just dipped my toes into HC Ultimate and doing pretty well so far (lots of farming for rotgut).

To preface, I am very experienced in HC and have no real intentions of pushing this to battle celestials (but I will certainly die trying). I was just wondering if anyone sees room for further improvement, as I am pretty proud of this build. Thank you!

AARGH! So, turns out Awakened and Ascended are not the same thing. Spoiler

I went into the expansion content relatively blind, but have been playing a WoA Evoker cold build. I did some digging on Grimtools and found the Awakened Eastern Oath set. Perfect, that %health steal on the attack is exactly what I want.

Then I made it to Kurnhold and found the alter and the Jornn next to it, who is clearly who I need to Awaken my item. Damn, okay, it's pretty steep to turn one of the two pieces of the set I have (Mythical Eastern Leggards) into its legendary counterpart, but I farm the Soul Echoes on Ascendant* difficulty accordingly and then go to upgrade my pants. Huh, that's odd - they're still rare.

So then I look at the Awakened Eastern Leggards more closely and... huh. I don't need to use the guy next to the Altar after all! So I go to the little hidden area and find Noktukari... just to find out that because I Ascended my Mythical Eastern Leggards, I can no longer upgrade them into the Awakened Eastern Leggards.

I guess I will now be at the mercy of RNG for two of the pieces of the set instead of one, since I now need an un-Ascended Mythical Eastern Leggards.... sigh. Completely my fault, but what a setback.

BUILDS I need build advice on my vitality DEE conjurer

Current build:

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/VWPqrKGZ

Planned final build:

https://www.grimtools.com/calc/ZDMD8X8N

Currently playing on ascended difficulty and things are going fairly well. Can face tank most bosses. My DOT damage is 125k on average, highest single damage is 500k.

Just unlocked Sorrow's Bastion portal.

I'm having trouble with tempest totem, died to it once and managed to complete twice with some kiting.

How can I improve my both defense and damage output?

One of my favorite builds ever but it's probably been reverse power crept to all hell. Is there anything new and Juicy in FoA that would help this build out? Have other classes taken the aura archetype further through crazy ass conversions?

SOLVED Conversion question

Currently playing a fire based war cry build. Using the messenger blaze cannon converting 100% phys to fire on field command. Since this is a passive, I am aware it converts all physical damage, however does break morale reduce flat fire damage in place of physical? The skill description still states physical
