I hit a kangaroo a couple of weeks ago.
It was only a couple of months after hitting a sambar deer, too. All up, about $100 of damage.

decided to install a second battery in my Hilux. didn't think it would be that hard – plenty of space under the bonnet, right lol. nope.
tried to squeeze a standard 100Ah AGM next to the starter battery and I genuinely don't know how people manage it without fabricating custom brackets or moving the whole airbox. the factory tray is tiny and everything around it is packed so tight I almost gave up and thought about putting it in the tub.
some forum threads were helpful but half of them are from like 2016 and the links are dead.
still haven't installed it btw. been sitting in my garage for three weeks now cause I keep putting it off. maybe this weekend.
anyone got a photo of their second battery setup under the bonnet? need some inspiration before I do something stupid

I work with aftermarket parts sourcing for Japanese pickup trucks.
One thing I often notice is that people say:
"This part fits Hilux."
But for professional sourcing, that is only the starting point.
A Hilux can have differences in:
A product photo may look correct, but the application can still be wrong.
For people who maintain or repair Hilux:
What information do you usually trust most when buying aftermarket parts?
OE number?
Vehicle details?
Seller recommendation?
Previous experience?
Curious how owners and mechanics usually verify parts.

Hey I have a 1994 Hilux surf it has the 1kz-te motor but I having troubles getting it started I suspect it is the scv on the fuel pump as that is what I have diagnosed so far but when I test the resistance of the scv I get open loop I have to other electrical pumps that came with the car when I bought and when I measure them i am getting between 117-119 ohms so I am confused because the recommended ohms from my research is 1-2 ohms does anyone have any tips on what I should do next

Lads/Ladies
I'm in the process of joining the community and purchasing a 2020 Hilux.
One question,
What was deciding factor that led you to choose a Hilux over it's competitors?
I know this subreddit will be biased towards Hilux but I'm also tossing up between an Isuzu D-max and the Hilux.
Really appreciate everyone's insights.
Thanks!

Who needs 5th gear when it looks this good 🤩 (anyone have a spare gearbox tho????)

G'day,
I have an auto 2025 SR Hilux, since up sizing the tires and installing a rooftop I've found I'm unable to manually select 6th gear and it has skyrocketing the fuel efficiency.
Is there anyway to bypass the software to give myself more control over the gearing in an auto?

Hello everyone, I recently bought a 1981 2WD Toyota pickup/hilux and it has pretty significant front end sag so I am suspecting it needs new torsion bars since the current ones are 45 years old. This would be fine and dandy if I could find replacements. If anyone knows where I can get replacements for this year, or maybe alternatives like conversion to coiled setup idk, or even suggestions for what else I should check or replace. anything helps please and thank you.

Hey everyone, i have a 97 Hilux Double cab 2.4L Diesel Turbo LN108-5001152 model and been running into some starting issues lately. First thing that happened was one morning it was completely dead and needed a jump. Then it started taking longer to crank for every start. I bought 2 new batteries because it’s a dual setup and that did the trick for a while. Now it happened again and won’t even crank if being jumped. Swapped with 2 more new batteries from a friend and still didn’t jump. Is this a sign starter issue or possibly an alternator? Worst fear is an electrical parasite somewhere. Any help is appreciated.

Hey lads, I've got a 2kd (2.5L) 2010 Hilux with 226000 ks and there is just oil leaking from everywhere, initially I thought it was just the valve cover leaking but I noticed a spot on the drive way and got under it to find whole transmission is soaked, I also stuck my finger in the hole in the bell housing and there is also an oily gritty sludge in there also. I have two other Hilux, one at around 400,000 and the other at 500,000ks which are both spotless. I'm thinking that the crankcase ventilation or it's oil seperator in the valve cover might be gummed up causing the pressure to build and forcing oil out through all the seals. However I'm no mechanic and am wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and whether or not my hypothesis is correct. Cheers

Has anyone had issues with the crank case ventilation system on the 1kd/2kd Hilux? If so what was it and what were the symptoms?
My 94 hilux surf has a crank but no start. I traced it to a fuel cutoff solenoid that was stuck. I cleaned it and the solenoid works now but I think it's not getting the power from the car. I had chatGPT walk me through the different fuses and connection points in the circuit until i got to the ECU. found a wiring diagram that says the SVR should be in C11 but there is no wire in my C11 position on my ECU. So do i have a different ECU? How can I trace this circuit?
Update: i took a closer look at the ECU and there are a few leaky caps. I didn't see them with my first inspection.

Hey guys, If I was to get a Hilux from factory with plans to get a custom tray/ canopy at a later date would it be better to get the alloy Toyota tray or the style sides as I know some of these tray companys can put all the factory sensors in the trays. Or does it not matter and get a tray as it will resell better?

Hello everyone,
I have very little to no knowledge about vehicle engines. Is the 2022 Hilux SR 2wd 90000 km a good buy?
I want to buy it for work and everyday use. I settled on Hilux because of their reliability.
Any advice is appreciated.
Hey guys,
I have recently bought a used 2021 hilux. I love the machine and have been making good use of it for work. I have noticed however that its speedometer is off. If I set cruise control for 50, it is measured by the speed cam at the entry to the town at 47 and people behind me act annoyed. If I put it at 55, the beast goes 53 or so.
Is there an easy fix for this?
Thanks

I am looking to build my 1997 SSR G Hilux Surf up like swapping steering wheel getting better headlights and all that good stuff. Does anyone know where I can find mods accessories or upgrades for the hilux in the US??? Or any recommendations for what to do or what to keep stock? And only has only 50k miles and want to make sure I don’t do to much or to less on building it to be perfect.
