How do you interpret this poem, and what does the *bridge* represent to you?

For those who don't know, this is The letter झ, primarily used in early Nepali printings. You might see this letter in some old prints of novels and books (I think those published by sajha prakashan).

Can anyone tell me what's the origin of this?

I have lived outside India my whole life and have never learned the script. So while I can speak Hindi, I cannot read or write it.

I come to this subreddit looking for some guidance. To put this request into context - I hope to appear for a judicial services exam where we have one qualifying language paper. Here passages would either be in Hindi (which would be translated to English) or in English (which would need to be translated to Hindi).

What approach and what resources would you all suggest for someone like me? While ideally I wish to be excellent but I understand my limitations and only wish to be competent enough to pass this qualifying paper.

Please do take time to guide me. I don’t really have anyone I can ask. Please help.

मैंने अपनी पहली शॉर्ट स्टोरी दीपावली के बारे में पोस्ट किया था। इस बार पूरी कहानी का प्रचार करने के बजाय सोचा कि उसका एक छोटा सा अंश यहाँ साझा करूँ, ताकि आपको कहानी के माहौल और लेखन का अंदाज़ा हो सके।

«अक्टूबर 1988 की गुलाबी ठंड में 28 साल का मुंबई का कारोबारी अहमद अपने पुश्तैनी गाँव मीरगंज आया हुआ था।

नेशनल हाईवे 27 इस गाँव को दो हिस्सों में साफ़ काटता था। अहमद के दादा शहर गए, कारोबार किया, पैसे कमाए और वापस गाँव में बस गए थे। उसके पिता ने भी यही रास्ता चुना था।

लेकिन अहमद ने तय कर लिया था कि उसकी ज़िंदगी मुंबई में ही है।

गाँव घूमने के लिए खूबसूरत था। लेकिन अपनी औलाद को पीछे छोड़कर बस जाने के लिए नहीं।

छुट्टी के शुरुआती चार दिन गाँव की सुकून भरी छुट्टी से ज़्यादा मुंबई की बची हुई टू-डू लिस्ट जैसे गुज़रे थे। पिता ने आते ही काम सौंप दिए थे—गाड़ी की सर्विसिंग, एक रिश्तेदार की शादी के लिए पैसों का इंतज़ाम और घर के राशन-पानी की व्यवस्था।

लेकिन पाँचवें दिन तक वह अफ़रा-तफ़री थोड़ी कम हो गई। पूर्वांचल की ठंडी, भीनी हवा ने आखिरकार अहमद की भागती हुई नब्ज़ को धीमा करना शुरू कर दिया।

वह अपनी शामें रमेश और बिन्नू के साथ बिताने लगा। रमेश के ढाबे के पीछे तीनों दोस्त गरम कुल्हड़ वाली चाय पीते और सर्दियों की शाम को खेतों की तरफ़ देखते हुए वक्त गुज़ारते।

फिर आया दीपावली का हफ़्ता।

और उसी रात एक नशे में की गई ज़िद ने एक ऐसा राज़ उजागर कर दिया, जिसे दशकों से मिट्टी के नीचे दफ़न समझा जा रहा था।»

दीपावली एक छोटी रूरल-नॉयर मिस्ट्री है, जिसकी कहानी 1988 के काल्पनिक गाँव मीरगंज, पूर्वांचल में घटती है।

इसमें गाँव की ज़िंदगी, सर्दियों का कोहरा, स्थानीय राजनीति, एक पुराना दबा हुआ रहस्य और थोड़ा देसी डार्क ह्यूमर है।

Namashkar I have a Freshers coming up in about 4–5 days, and I’ve been asked to recite a poem. I’d really love to do something in Hindi, but I’m still a complete beginner when it comes to Hindi poetry.

I’m specifically looking for a Hindi poem, rather than Urdu poetry/shayari, for something that is:

- Relatively short

- Simple/easy to understand and pronounce

- Easy enough for a beginner to memorise in 2–3 days 😭

- Suitable for a Freshers or Farewell setting

- Something that sounds good when recited aloud and has a nice emotional/poetic impact

It doesn’t necessarily have to be specifically written for Freshers/Farewell. A simple poem about new beginnings, youth, friendship, dreams, life, journeys, memories, hope, etc. would work too.

Please suggest specific poems/poets, preferably something beginner-friendly rather than very complex/classical Hindi.

I’m trying to get into Hindi poetry properly, so this could also be my first little step into it. 😂

नेपाल में हाल ही में आई बाढ़ का कारण संभवतः ऊपरी पहाड़ी क्षेत्र में ग्लेशियर से जुड़े किसी घटना के कारण अचानक पानी का बहाव बढ़ना बताया जा रहा है। जब ग्लेशियर, बर्फ या ग्लेशियल झील अस्थिर हो जाती है, तो भारी मात्रा में पानी और मलबा नीचे की ओर बह सकता है। इससे अचानक बाढ़ आ सकती है, जिससे घरों, सड़कों और लोगों की जान-माल को भारी नुकसान होता है। यह घटना पहाड़ी क्षेत्रों की नाजुक स्थिति और मौसम तथा जलवायु परिवर्तन के प्रभाव को दर्शाती है।

So, last year I started reading some hindi stores on Pratilipi app. Not to deny, some were quite interesting.

Hi all, I am trying to formulate a model to show that writing in Hindi takes more time than in English. Is anybody aware of any Scientific Study on this subject and any data on Indian people (age-wise) on handwriting speed in Hindi?
