NATURE Seems we are the last generation to witness fireflies. When last do you see them?

I was thinking about these bugs few days ago and I struggle to remember when last I saw them.

Really? I’m in NYC and they’re all over basically every park if you go out at dusk. Literally saw a bunch of them last night.

Same, saw a bunch of them at Brooklyn bridge park two weeks ago!

Can confirm, they are present in Owl's Head Park in Brooklyn and all over the riverfront.

Oh that’s great.
I’m not in NYC now, capital region. Gone here.

Really though that’s great. Makes me very happy to know they’re not gone from the state entirely.
Many of my memories of them were from Long Island at my great grandparents.

I live on Long Island and have tons of lightning bugs on my property but the neighbors have none because they use lawn companies and hire pest companies who play on people’s obsession over ticks. Last evening I watched local news trying to scare people because 6 mosquitoes out of thousands collected tested positive for West Nile virus. They mentioned there have been no human cases before moving on. A couple weeks ago they delivered hair raising stories about a guy who had Bourbon virus from a tick. They mentioned he went to a hospital but never mentioned if he was admitted to the hospital (my guess is no). There’s no treatment and he looked fine, so….like…ok? He had a virus and got over it
