Just did a tiny bit of research. While walking through/over brush which can get quite thick in parts of Ethiopia where the Bana tribe resides, they can take advantage of being elevated to spot crouching/hiding lions and other large predators giving them a bit of an advantage to defend themselves if need be.

The real bonus of the stilts is being elevated above all the venomous snakes, spiders and scorpions hiding in the brush.

This. It’s the same reason why people are advised to raise their arms in the air and make themselves look bigger when they come across certain predators.

Most predators have evolved to become pretty cautious - if they get hurt, they might be unable to hunt and therefore starve to death. So they’re typically not in the habit of targeting prey that they don’t recognize, or that might be able to fight back. A person on stilts is definitely “weird” and possibly a little intimidating from a lion’s perspective, even though a lion could realistically kill a person on stilts in seconds
