Help I'm awful at iOS ASO - Need Advice

I have a few apps I've made, initially for Android but now expanding to iOS. I really struggle with ASO for iOS. I am an Android user personally, so my connection with Apple's ecosystem and App Store expectations are pretty thin.

I'd appreciate feedback on the basics of ASO for iOS that I am getting wrong. One example is a recent language learning crossword puzzle app I made for Japanese learners. The target market is niche. User engagement after people download is pretty solid. Conversion to paid users as a % is pretty high for both iOS and Android.

The problem is that my store presence kind of sucks and it's only getting a few downloads per day.

I'd appreciate any constrictive feedback or advice.

I really don't like spending a lot of time on ASO and it shows.

As a reference.

Critique my app and screenshots

Hi r/iosdev,

I built an app that allows you to chat with AI models (cloud or self-hosted) with your own API keys. It has support for Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and Model Context Protocol (MCP).

It is privacy-focused, so it has lockable folders for chats and configs, requests zero-data-retention flags to providers wherever possible, and has API keys stored in the iOS keychain.

I originally built it for myself but want to share it with others. I couldn't find a good iOS app that allows a good end-to-end AI workflow, for eg, read a Google Sheets file that my team shared on my Google Drive, read the PDF I'm working on that I uploaded to the LLM Provider, suggest adjustments to my PDF based on the Sheets and any prior documents I have uploaded to my RAG database, generate a diagram (image) that I can use in the PDF, and if necessary edit that diagram, and create a meeting event in my iOS Calendar for the presentation, all in the same chat, while switching providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Mistral) and modalities (text and image).

So I'm looking for feedback from other devs and users.

Ask me questions here, be as critical as you want, and I'll try to answer.

Tutorial After 4 months of nights and weekends, my app is finally on the App Store!

The idea came from a stupidly ordinary moment. I was
digging through my camera roll for a receipt and ran straight into a photo of
my ex. Not one I had kept on purpose - a group shot from someone's birthday
where they happened to be in the back row. That is the thing nobody warns you
about: it is never the photos you chose to keep.

How it works

You pick one to four photos of a person. It scans your
library and returns every other photo of them, already selected. You tap delete
once. Opening any individual photo is optional - the whole point is that you do
not have to go through them one at a time.

Technical side

Everything runs on device. Apple's Vision framework for
face detection and embeddings, then clustering over those embeddings to group
matches. No backend, no account, no photo ever leaves the phone. That was a
hard constraint from day one and it made a few things genuinely painful:

- Large libraries: Scanning tens of
thousands of photos without destroying the battery or blocking the UI took most
of my optimisation time.

- Recall vs. precision: This was the real design
decision. Leaning toward recall means some false positives end up in the
results. Leaning toward precision means photos get missed, and a missed photo
is exactly the ambush the app exists to prevent. I went with recall, kept everything
pre-selected, and made deselecting a single tap. iOS deletion also routes
through Recently Deleted, so there is a 30 day safety net on top.

- PHPhotoLibrary has more edge cases around permissions and batch
deletion than I expected.

What I would do differently

Honestly I never really thought about any licenses which
almost led to a fatal mistake. However, I think doing the design with Claude in
the first place (which is easy to see) has been very rewarding for me. I was
able to set up the pipeline and all functions and submit those to apple. After
everything is accepted now, I can care about looks which won't affect the
pipeline and the critical parts in the app, therefore pushing an update for
this shouldn't be a big problem.

Link: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pickex-delete-ex-photos/id6801488013

Happy to answer anything about the on-device pipeline,
the clustering approach, or the App Store process. Feedback welcome, including
the harsh kind.

Help What would you audit after shipping a fairly large iPad app? Looking for another iOS developer’s perspective

I’ve recently shipped an iPad app I’ve been working on called Imagine & Color, and I’m at the stage where I’ve been looking at the project for so long that some UX decisions inevitably seem “normal” simply because I’ve seen them a thousand times.

The app includes:

• A remotely managed catalog of curated coloring pages
• Monthly content rotation
• Custom image generation through a backend service
• StoreKit subscriptions and consumable purchases
• An iPad coloring interface
• Saved user pages
• Printing/sharing
• A fairly significant amount of native iPad UI

I’d be interested in how other iOS developers approach a post-launch audit.

The things I’m currently scrutinizing are:

• Navigation consistency
• State restoration
• Network/offline behavior
• StoreKit edge cases
• Accessibility
• Error states
• iPad multitasking/layout behavior
• Animation and interaction consistency
• Whether anything feels custom for the sake of being custom instead of using established Apple patterns

If anyone wants to actually try it and point out things that feel wrong, here’s the App Store page:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/imagine-color/id6798914520

I’m interested in both code/product methodology and concrete UX criticism.

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m continuing to improve BreakMate, my iPhone app designed to help people organize and keep track of their workday.

Based on feedback from beta testers, I’ve added some new features:

🆕 Multiple Jobs
You can now add and manage more than one job. Each job can have its own schedule, pay rate, breaks, and work history.

🆕 Variable / Changing Schedules
BreakMate now supports jobs where your hours change from day to day or week to week — useful for retail, restaurants, healthcare, warehouse, customer service, and other shift-based jobs.
BreakMate also includes:

• Break and lunch reminders
• Work schedule tracking
• Hours worked and overtime
• Late arrivals and early departures
• Daily schedule changes
• Estimated pay and paycheck tracking
• Work history and reports
I’m especially looking for testers who:
• Work hourly or scheduled shifts
• Have a schedule that changes regularly
• Work more than one job
• Work retail, restaurants, healthcare, warehouse, customer service, or similar jobs

🔒 Privacy: Your salary, schedule, and work information stay on your device. I cannot see your personal work or salary information.

All Premium features are available for free during the beta.

If you test it, I’d really appreciate feedback on the new Multiple Jobs and Variable Schedule features, along with anything that feels confusing, missing, or could be improved.

Rank Your Music - Testers Needed

Thumbnail
gallery
2 Upvotes

Hello r/iosdev! Do you enjoy ranking the tracks in your favorite album, arguing with friends and strangers online about an artist’s correct discography ranking? Then Ordinalist was made especially for you.

Ordinalist takes a playlist, album, or discography and makes you choose between two choices at a time. You pick the one you like more. Then do it again. And again. And several more times because apparently you needed 147 songs in this playlist.

While you’re busy having an existential crisis over which track you’ve heard 600 times is better, Ordinalist keeps track of every choice and turns them into a complete ranking from favorite to least favorite.

No star ratings, no scoring songs out of 10 like you’re judging Olympic gymnastics, and no deciding whether something feels like an 8.7 or an 8.6.

Two songs. Pick one. That’s the whole deal.

The easy choices go quickly, but the hard ones make you question everything you’ve ever claimed about yourself. Eventually, you get the thing you came for: an actual, definitive ranking of your music based entirely on your own decisions.

So when your alleged favorite ends up at #14, don’t look at us. You did that.

HOW IT WORKS

- Pick a playlist, album, or discography to judge

- Ordinalist gives you two choices

- Pick your favorite

- Keep going until everything is ranked

- Stare at the results

- Disagree with yourself

- Rank something else

App Store launch is planned for late September, but beta testing is currently ongoing. When Ordinalist launches, it will remain free to download and use forever. There are no subscriptions or one time purchases; this is my hobby project, not a way for me to make money.

If you’d like to help beta test and try the app out early, join the TestFlight using the link below, or check out the website to learn even more.

It is called Proper Fight Game.

App Store

Web

Point of my app is to make UFC watching experience more interesting. You don't care about every fight but when you have a pick on a fighter and competing with your friends, everything changes.

IT IS NOT GAMBLING.

Free app. You make picks from real fights. Challenge friends. Compete in a seasonal leaderboard. Make teams. Create your own leagues. Most importantly, you can win real weekly/monthly prizes.

Detailed fight and fighter stats. And many more.

All of this is for free. No ads. No payment. Not planning to make any money from it. Just wanted to share this with you.

After 200k lines of code with Claude Code :

WiFi is invisible, but it has a shape.
Strong in some corners of your home, dead in others and you can't see any of it.

That idea wouldn't leave me alone.
So two months ago I locked myself in my room (yes, the irony) and built the app I'd always wanted to exist.

It's called Signl. You scan your home in 3D with your iPhone, then walk around while it measures your WiFi in real time.
It paints a live heatmap directly onto the 3D model a
dollhouse view of your place showing exactly where your signal is strong, where it dies, and where your router should actually go.

I shipped it expecting nothing. 500+ downloads the first week, then strangers started actually *paying* for it. My DMs turned into a feature request board (3D export, mesh support, multi-floor…)

Try it here:

Shipped a native golf GPS/stats app with on-device data and a one-time IAP — looking for feedback on onboarding and the paywall

I’m a solo iOS dev. I shipped EagleEye, an iPhone golf app: satellite GPS flyover of the hole you’re standing on, shot visualization, and a stats book (GIR, leaks, short game, etc.).

Constraints I chose on purpose:

• No account. Rounds stay on the device.

• No subscription. 3 free rounds, then a one-time unlock (intro $9.99, full $14.99).

• No ads.

What I’d actually like feedback on from other iOS people:

  1. Free → IAP. Three rounds free, then a one-time unlock. Does that read as fair, or does it feel like a trap compared to a cheap monthly?

  2. Onboarding. First-run has to teach flyover and logging without a tutorial novel. What would you cut?

  3. Privacy as a feature. “Nothing leaves the phone” is the product. In 2026 does that help conversion, or do people bounce because there’s no cloud backup / restore?

  4. App Store listing. Flyover is the visual hook. If you glance at the listing, is that obvious in 3 seconds?

Happy to talk through the boring stuff too (MapKit/satellite overlay, keeping stats fast with no backend, StoreKit 2 for a single non-consumable).

App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/eagleeye-golf-app/id6793305657

I’m here to get roasted, not to farm downloads. Thank you for your time and feedback!

[iOS] Who Goes - Fun social games for when you’re hanging out with your group

Post image
0 Upvotes

Introduction

Hey everyone!

Introducing Who Goes, an iOS app for game nights, house parties, road trips, and pretty much any hangout with a group of people.

It’s free to download and play, with optional one-time purchase and subscription options.

The idea behind Who Goes is pretty simple: engage everyone in your group and involve them in something together, through social games like Headbands, Truth or Dare and a bunch of quick group activities into one app, with a modern, playful experience built around actually passing the phone around and having fun together.

About the app

The app brings multiple party games into one place:

• Headbands with tilt controls for correct answers and passes
• Charades with themed decks, teams, rounds, and timers
• Truth or Dare with 11 decks for friends, couples, parties, family, and coworkers
• Spin the Bottle for quick, suspenseful player selection
• Would You Rather for impossible this-or-that debates
• Finger Chooser to instantly pick someone from the group
• Quick Play tools for dice, coin flips, and more

Current Market

I know this is an insanely competitive category, with a shit-ton of party apps already out there.
My goal with Who Goes was never to reinvent the wheel, but to bring the ones people already know and play together in one place, without needing five different apps on your phone.

I wanted the whole thing to feel much more modern and polished than most party apps I've tried, with playful animations, haptics, sounds, and little interactions that actually add to the game instead of getting in the way.

No ads popping up between rounds, no cluttered UI, and no wildly different experience every time you switch games.

Pricing

The free version includes all the game modes. Plus unlocks all the decks, round customisations, and removes every limit. Lifetime at $25.49 (US, price parity enabled for all countries), weekly at $1.99, and yearly sub with 3-day free trial at $17.99.

No account is required, and the games work offline.

TL;DR:

A. A game to bring back the fun of playing party games with a group of people during game nights, trips.

B. Free version includes a selection of decks for Charades, Headbands, and Truth or Dare, along with a few mini games. Plus unlocks all decks, game modes, and customisation options.

C. Freemium model, every mode in the app can be used. Lifetime at $25.49, or weekly at $1.99, and yearly with free trial at $17.99.

Launched my first iOS game — how did you get your first real users?

Launched my first iOS game recently and the hardest part by far has been distribution.
I’ve tried Apple Ads, YouTube, Reddit, Instagram and ASO, and so far nothing has really moved the needle. For other solo iOS devs who started with no audience what actually got you your first real wave of users?

Help App approved and “Ready for Distribution” for ~36 hours, but still not showing in App Store search

My iOS app was approved and has been showing as Ready for Distribution in App Store Connect for around a day and a half now.

The direct App Store product page link works perfectly.

The app can be downloaded through that link.

Availability is enabled for all countries/regions I selected.

But searching the exact app name in the App Store still doesn’t show it at all.

It’s been over 24 hours, closer to ~36 hours now.

For anyone who has launched an app recently, how long did it take before it became searchable in the App Store?

Is this just normal App Store search indexing delay, or is there anything in App Store Connect I should double-check?

First time launching an iOS app, so I’m not sure whether I should just leave it alone or if something might be wrong.

[promotion] meet Aisleway, the smarter way to shop.

I got tired of forgetting things at the store, so I made a shopping list app.

There are already a few shopping list apps out there. I just wanted something that was really simple and worked the way I personally wanted to use one.

It’s called Aisleway.

The main idea is that you can keep different shopping lists for different stores instead of having one huge list of everything you need to buy.

For example, I might have a grocery list, a hardware store list, and a list for another store I visit regularly. If I think of something I need while I'm at home, I can just throw it onto the right list and forget about it until I actually go shopping.

A few things I added:

  • No account or login required
  • Automatic logo detection for new stores (for easier visibility)
  • Separate lists for different stores
  • Quickly add items and stores
  • Items are automatically grouped to make the list easier to go through
  • Shared lists so you can shop with someone else and see changes in real time
  • Check things off as you pick them up

The shared list part has actually been one of my favorite things to work on. If you're shopping with your partner, roommate, family, etc., you can both add/check off things without having to constantly send each other updates.

It's definitely still a work in progress, and I'm sure there are things that could be done better. I'm mostly putting it out there because I'd like to get some real feedback from people who actually use shopping list apps.

If you want to try it out, it's on the App Store:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/aisleway/id6790048074

If you use a shopping list app already, what do you like about it? And what annoys you about it?

I'd be interested to hear what other people think, and please let me know if you have any feedback for my app. Would love to hear it and refine upon the app. Cheers!

I spent a year building an interactive AI version of myself. It is finally on iOS

TL;DR: I spent a year building EchoVault, an iOS app that helps you create an interactive AI version of yourself from your memories, values and perspective, so the people you choose can still ask about your life when you are no longer here. The text version is free.
App Store: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/echovault-digital-legacy/id6762042028

A few years ago, my uncle sent me a voice note encouraging me to keep building. I lost him to violence in Nigeria not long afterward.
I have replayed that message many times, but it is frozen. I can hear him, but I can never ask him another question. That thought eventually became EchoVault.

An Echo is an interactive AI version of you, created by you while you are alive. Instead of scraping your messages or asking you to complete one enormous interview, an AI biographer talks with you regularly and gradually learns your memories, values and perspective. The people you choose can later interact with your Echo through text, voice and video after your account has been inactive for one full year.

I first built EchoVault as a hackathon project. It won the Inspirational Story award, but I did not want it to remain a demo. I kept building the web version, learning from early users, and turning the concept into something ordinary people could actually set up for themselves.
This month, the iOS app finally shipped.

The demo shows what I mean by an interactive version of someone. I ask my Echo about the meaning of life, something I never answered directly. It forms a response from things I shared across three earlier conversations. I then ask for my grandfather’s first name, which I never provided, and it says it does not know.

One thing I am still learning is how to explain the product quickly. “Digital legacy” can sound like file storage, while “AI clone” can make it sound like a novelty. The actual experience sits somewhere more personal: intentionally preserving enough of yourself that the people you love can continue asking about your life.

The text Echo is free, and I would appreciate honest feedback on whether the idea makes sense once you see it in action, particularly whether the onboarding makes the purpose clear without feeling morbid.

Help My First App, would love (Extremely) blunt feedback before the launch

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi all,

I'm preparing an launch of Orano AI (turns saved Instagram Reels into actionable plans). I've attached Play Store screenshot slides and I'd like blunt feedback before pushing the new build.

What I'm trying to figure out:

  1. Does the headline screen ("Turn Reels Into Action") explain the product in 3 seconds?
  2. Is the AI angle clear without sounding like "yet another AI app"?
  3. Do the inner screens sell the use case (saving stuff you want to act on later)?
  4. What's confusing or that you'd skip past without reading?

I'm specifically not asking for compliments. Honest "this didn't land with me" feedback is more useful than upvotes.

Train Daily : my simple and effective fitness app

I built an app during the pandemic for personal use, to help me stay in shape with body weight exercises. I built it for Android originally, then rewrote it with Swift / SwiftUI.

The app turned out to be very effective in building strength. * It got me from 50 to 100+ pushups in one set, over the course of 2 months or so
* It also got me to 40+ pull-ups in a single set from my initial 12-15 pull-ups, which I thought was quite impressive.

I’d appreciate downloads / feedback. It’s completely free, stores data locally and in HealthKit only - no external databases.

It’s called TRAIN DAILY:

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/train-daily/id1603002534
