SUBREDDIT RULES Please Read Before Posting or Commenting

5 Upvotes

Subreddit Rules & Posting Guidelines

Before you make a post or leave a comment, please take a moment to read and follow the rules below. These help keep the subreddit useful and respectful for everyone.

1. Do Basic Research First

Use Google or the subreddit search before posting. Please avoid asking general questions that are already widely answered.

Ask for:

  • Comparisons
  • Personal experiences
  • Context-specific advice

Avoid asking:

  • "What to do in Jakarta?"
  • "What food is good in Indonesia?"

(Use the stickied threads or search bar first.)

2. BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL

You're talking to fellow human beings—not a search engine or AI. Greet others with Hello or Hi and don’t forget to say thank you or terima kasih. A little courtesy makes the community better for everyone. Last thing we need in this city is another entitled ungrateful person. All posts without proper greetings or any manners that looks like an AI prompt instead a real query will be removed along with its replies.

3. Be Efficient in Your Posts

If you have multiple questions, put them in one post. Do not create several posts for each individual question.

This sub is definitely not for karma farming.

4. Be Specific and Detailed

Give context to your questions. The more detail, the better the answers you’ll receive.

Good Example:

"I'm visiting Jakarta for 3 days, staying in Kemang. I’d like to see museums and try local street food."

Bad Example:

"What to do in Jakarta?" "What to eat?"

(These are too broad and may be removed.)

5. Language

English is encouraged to include more people in the discussion. But Bahasa Indonesia is also welcome.

6. Don’t Gatekeep or Shame Posts

Unhelpful comments like:

"cObA pOsTiNg dI sUb /InDoNeSia aJa" ...will be removed.

Some users post here because they can’t post elsewhere or had their posts removed in other subs. If you're not contributing, please don't comment.

7. NO soliciting illegal matters, or other 18+ related matters

This sub will never be associated with criminals, sexpats or degenerates. Any posts about how to get drugs, prostitutes, sugar daddies, or whatever your sexual kinks or fetishes will be removed, repeat posters will be permanently banned.

8. Be Civil and Respect Opinions

Disagree without being rude. Don’t insult others' preferences. We ABSOLUTELY will not tolerate bigots, racists, homophobes, sexists, and other sorts of assholes.

Instead of:

"That place sucks. Food is trash."

Try:

"I didn't enjoy that place personally, but others might."

Important Notes for New Users

  • Accounts less than 1 day old, or with less than 1 karma, will require manual mod approval.
  • Posts that don’t follow the rules will not be approved and removed, along with its comments.

Repeat Offenders Will Be Banned

We aim to keep this community helpful and respectful. Users who repeatedly break the rules will receive a permanent ban.

If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask in the comments. Thanks for helping keep this community great!

Best restaurants in Jabodetabek?

18 Upvotes

Guys n Gals!!

How about we make a list of the best restaurants/places to eat list here?

I have seen some posts earlier and wish to make it easy for anybody to just drop in and read thru our choice of places as a Reddit Community.

We can also make it easy by marking halal and non halal places.

What say?

I am still a newbie here in Jakarta but my list goes like this;

Burgers;

Dan's burgers, Dharmawangsa. Blok A MRT station and a quick hop nearby.

Steak;

Abuba

Justus

Urban Wagyu

Padang;

Pagi Sore

Sederhana

Natrabu

Kebayoran Baru

Pizza;

San Marco BSD

Soto Betawi;

Jawa Kitchen

Kafe Betawi

Ibu Yanti

Mangga besar 12b

Udon;

Marugame Udon

Nasi Goreng;

Nasi Gila Obama, MRT to Bunderan HI, short walk/gojek to Menteng park area.

Nasi Goreng Kambing Kebon Sirih Decent, tastes more like nasi kebuli though.

To be cont'd..

Is Blok M actually getting quieter? I walked around to check

7 Upvotes

There’s been a lot of talk lately about Blok M losing its energy

Spent a weekend walking through the area — MRT station, Plaza Blok M, M Bloc, Taman Literasi, the pedestrian streets, Blok M Hub, and Pasaraya — to see how busy it really feels right now.

Some spots were calmer than expected, others were still packed.

Here’s what it looked like: https://youtu.be/1BU_YyyGIRk

Curious what regulars think — does Blok M feel different to you these days?

BTS concert in Jakarta — where should we stay? 🇵🇭💜

4 Upvotes

Hello! We’re a group of 3 flying in from the Philippines for the BTS concert!

We’re considering staying around Blok M since we like the vibe of the area, but we’re still open to other recommendations.

For those familiar with Jakarta:

- Is Blok M a good area to stay?

- Any budget-friendly hotel recommendations around the area for 3 people?

- Is it difficult to get to the stadium from Blok M on concert day, especially with traffic and crowds?

- Any tips on transportation or what time we should leave?

Would appreciate any advice from locals or anyone who has attended concerts in Jakarta before. Thank you! 💜

Where to donate clothes in central Jakarta?

2 Upvotes

so I’ve got quite a lot of clothes that are still in quite good condition but I hardly ever wear them. i want to reduce the clutter in my apartment so Ive decided to give them away.

Ideally, I would like the clothes to go to somewhere useful. I’ve thought about giving them to an old man collecting recyclables and bottles in a cart but I don’t know if he would actually appreciate that…

GBK Arena to CGK Airport

2 Upvotes

I'd like to ask if i can make it from the arena to the airport in time for my 01:30 flight. I'll be going to the Ye in Jakarta concert on October 24 and I have the flight on October 25. I plan to take a grab car from the arena to the airport. Does immigration or airport security take a long time? Should I just book a different flight?

Jakarta locals, could you help me out? 🇮🇩

4 Upvotes

Hey guys, I’m visiting Jakarta and kinda worried about accidentally ending up near the demo areas.
Which areas or roads should I avoid right now? I’m planning to visit Kota Kasablanka, Blok M, Lippo Mall Nusantara, Thamrin City, and Grand Indonesia.
Are these areas okay, or should I change my plans or routes?
I’d love to hear from people who are actually in Jakarta right now. I’m open to changing my plans and would really appreciate any suggestions or recommendations from Jakarta locals

Recommendations for badminton/ glasses/ denim/ camera gear/ and overall shopping

1 Upvotes

Hello guys, Im going to be in jakarta for a day and was planning to do some shopping as I come from a place where it is really difficult to find items.

Firstly, I would like to know a mall that has alot of the things I would want or a mall with that has everything to ease my travels looking for other stuff.

I am looking for a pair of selvedge jeans. I heard indonesian local brands are known for their jeans such Old Blue Co and other brands. I do not have that much time to be going from one brand store to another so if you guys would know a one stop shop that stocks all brands of jeans, that would be nice.

Also what are some good places to buy prescription glasses from brands like blue elephant or gentle monster

a good place with plenty of camera gear

planning to buy a small rig cage for my sony a7v and a monitor.

and a good place to buy badminton gear with alot of stocks from multiple brands, bonus points if it has other sporting goods such as for running and such.

and finally what are other places i should definitly check out. ( can be food, places, or shopping or any)

much love!

Oven/help

2 Upvotes

Hello everyone,
Because of my husbands job we’ve moved to Indonesia. Can anyone tell me why it’s so hard to find an oven? And get it installed? Do you have any advice on what to do with installing, where to buy it ect? None of the houses we’ve seen have had ovens so far, so we’ve decided to buy it ourselves. We don’t know what is the best option. Should be it dual based or can you get it electronic seperate from the gasstoves? The problem is it’s so hard to find and people around even most workers seem to not know much about it? Thank you in advance

Anyone else thinking of signing up for Disney Run Jakarta?

I had no idea that there was going to be a Disney race in Jakarta this November. I am honestly thinking of signing up purely because medals and shirts look so cool.

I have never done one of these runs before, but it looks there a few different distances you can sign up for. Has anyone here done a previous Disney Run? Is it actually worth doing?

Best mall to visit

5 Upvotes

I'm going to Jakarta for a quick trip and planning to visit at least 1-2 malls that has sephora (cause we don't have sephora back home) or great selection of stores/restaurants but we don't want to spend all our time in a mall since we're only there for a few days! Which mall should we go to? We're choosing between Grand Indonesia, Plaza Indonesia, Central Park, Plaza Senayan or PIM! Let us know which mall is the best to visit for things I mentioned. Thank you!

Where can I hire interns/contractors in Jakarta?

1 Upvotes

Hi,

I am an Indian nomad planning to stay in Jakarta/Indonesia for the next 6 months. I am looking to hire someone to help me shoot and edit short form video content to promote my startups and do a bit of personal branding.

What would be the best place to hire social media/marketing interns? Also what would be a good pay for part-time work?

Cari tempat tinggal di Jakarta

8 Upvotes

Edit : Tambahan, Willing to spend up to 2.5 buat kos, 1-1.5 buat transport&makan (bisa masak, cukup ga ya?). Lokasi di Thamrin Nine, Jl. M.H. Thamrin, RT.13, Kb. Melati, Kecamatan Tanah Abang, Kota Jakarta Pusat.

Moving from Singapore to Jakarta as as Indian expat family

7 Upvotes

Hi Guys,

We’re an Indian professional couple with an infant and after staying in Singapore for 7 years, we are relocating next month to Jakarta. This will be our first time living in Indonesia, so would really appreciate some practical advice from people who know Jakarta well.

I’ll be working from Menara Astra in a very demanding Big 4 consulting role, so keeping the daily commute manageable is a big priority.

A few things we’d love advice on:

  • Where to live: Best family-friendly areas as close as possible to Menara Astra, considering safety, traffic and overall quality of life
  • Rent: Realistic rent for a good 2-bedroom apartment(25 mil idr enough for my preferred location?) and is annual upfront payment still the norm?
  • Monthly budget: What should a family of 3 realistically budget for rent, groceries, utilities, transport, helper/nanny, healthcare, eating out and weekends? Decent but definitely not very luxury.
  • Family/childcare: Reliable hospitals/paediatricians, nanny/helper/daycare options?
  • Air quality: How do families with young children manage Jakarta’s air quality?
  • Practical stuff: Recommended banks, mobile providers, grocery/delivery apps and useful expat/Indian parent groups?
  • Biggest adjustment: For anyone who moved from Singapore, what surprised you most and what mistakes should newcomers avoid?

We’re happy to adapt to Jakarta and experience the local lifestyle — just want to make sensible decisions around location, commute, housing, childcare and monthly expenses.

Any advice, neighbourhood recommendations or “I wish I knew this before moving here” tips would be greatly appreciated! 🙏
