Scroll images for stills
EDIT: To be crystal clear:
This was created for my own visual preference. There's a whole other version of him I did already if you're looking for an original likeness. If you don't like that one either, I honestly don't know what to say. I never claimed to be a professional, I don't want to pose as one, and I'm not really thinking about all the nuances that some may place at a high standard. I'm just a guy recreating these because I'd like to do so. If the original hits so much for anyone, it is open season to acquire the original artwork, as I did, cut them out, and use those directly into whatever they'd like.
/EDIT
Sooo.... I didn't like the first Albert...
at all.
Yes, this is far different. Yes, he's smiling. Yes, it's more "Anime" looking.
I think this looks way better, but my eye for aesthetics still needs much improvement is different from everyone else's.
Created in Paint Tool SAI 2
-EDIT-
Things I've noticed while doing these and from interactions:
- I don't understand the culture of Reddit at all.
- I'm somehow stepping on toes when trying to be careful.
- Posting for my own taste is somehow a no-no if it's not following some sort of hive mind (at least in this circumstance).
- Some people just want problems.
- I will somehow get downvoted for pointing out things I've previously indicated or are easily deduced.
- Defending myself or my art is, apparently, touchy business.
I just don't know how to properly respond and can't help but feel like I'm trying to fit in where I don't. So, I think I'll take a step back from responding to comments going forward unless it's warranted and just post the art.
Thanks to all.

Weakest for me so far. The loss of roundness in his face and exaggeration of the hair makes it a hard miss for me.

The first one I did of him is probably what you're looking for. 🙂

This reads as a passive aggressive comment, yo. I don’t get what you’re trying to say if it’s not that.

He looks a little too cheeky. Can you put the weight of a kingdom split in two by war in his face?

Pretty art, but i think you gave him a bit too much twink energy. I liked the first redraw better, but nice work on all this anyway

The first Albert looked handsome.
This Albert looks like he's about to sweep my girl and I off our feet.
Goddamn.
Add some sparkles and spontaneous flowers, and we'll have what Emille saw.
Actually! Actually!
The first one is what everyone sees.
This one is what Emille sees the moment Albert says something cheesy and almost romantic!

I never expected a bishi Albert. Please OP, take this even further beyond and frame him in roses holding a rose. (Roses as in the plant, not black monsters!)

The hair is just a smidge too fabulous to suit him, still like the portrait though!

Oh, interesting. I figured since he's a king, he should have king hair 😂

I'm glad that hella foxy Albert exists now though :D

If I didn’t already have LoD based gamer tags, Foxy Albert would 100% be it.

Who is that handsome gentleman? While I like Lavitz more for being best bro. Albert wasn't so bad. He was a bit cringe though with the princess xD

Personally love your first take on him more, but I see and respect the vision!! I'm choosing to interpret this as Albert after mastering Gust of Wind Dance 😂 Looking fine and FEELING fine. Also wanted to say, I really adore your colors and rendering. Great work as always!

NGL, i thought the first version was pretty dang good and i prefer that one. That said, you acknowledged you put your own spin on things intentionally and i cant knock ya for that. Nicely done, if the civil war hadnt started (ie if Alberts dad was a better ruler) then I can easily see Al growing up as this fancy debonair version

Thank you, I really appreciate that! ☺️ u/Angry_Santo mentioned this the version Emille sees while the first one I did is the one we see and I thought that was spot on! Haha!

I personally like the new look regardless if it is true to the original. Now it looks like he would be voiced by Ein Sin Claire and the star of an isekai where either he is a pompus prince or got abandoned by his party xD

My only issue is Albert as a character, his whole arc is realistically learning to fully be sure of his convictions and take a stand juxtaposted to his obvious status, temperament, and manner as a King. Lavitiz' death and being chosen as the new Jade Dragoon being what finally forced him to step into his own power. His picture to me always reflected an air of noble yet humble certainty and quiet but thoughtful determination.
I think your first rendition speaks more to that figure, this one definitely makes him seem way less pensive and more arrogant in a sense?
Either way I love that youre even doing this

I gotta be honest, this one's not really doing it for me. The nose is too small and he looks rather smug. And yes, the anime-esque vibe of it feels off.
Albert in the original portrait reminds me of '80s-era Julian Sands. That's who I've always envisioned.
