Hi everyone!
I've been collecting quite a few cards from the Avatar: The Last Airbender set and had the idea of turning them into several 60-card decks that my friends and I can just pick up and play against each other.
The idea is basically to create a small Avatar-only environment rather than trying to make the decks competitive against normal constructed decks.
My main rules are:
Only cards that have an Avatar: The Last Airbender printing (including the main set, Jumpstart/Eternal cards and Avatar versions of reprints).
60-card decks with the normal maximum of 4 copies.
I'd like the decks to be roughly comparable in power so that picking a particular deck doesn't decide the game before it starts.
Flavor is important, but I'd rather have mechanically coherent decks than force every thematic card into its faction.
Ideally no very expensive cards. I'm currently aiming for roughly under €10 per individual card, although I don't mind having expensive cards as optional upgrades.
I've already been experimenting with quite a few archetypes, for example:
- Earthbending
- Firebending Aggro
- Fliers + Airbend
- Waterbending
- Katara instant-speed Tempo
- Iroh Lessons
- Sokka Allies
- U/B second-card-draw + Waterbend
- W/B sacrifice/attrition
- Four-color Avatar Aang
I've even been running the decks against each other using Forge AI simulations. That has been useful for finding some obvious balance problems.
I'd be really interested to hear what other people would build from this card pool and if anyone has already built something similar, I'd love to see your lists!
I'm also happy to post the decklists I've built so far if anyone is interested in helping optimize or balance them against each other.
