the camera work and commentary are top notch in this

OOOOHHHH O O O O MY GOD Is she ok? She ok? SHE OK... I don't know about other person... Ohhh nevermind let's go...

67

u/GrapefruitOk2057 14d ago

thanks for the heads up I had it on mute first time. Great on mute. Epic with sound. :D

23

u/19seventy-eight 14d ago

The commentary in my head while on mute was the same as the actual commentary. Ha-ha

22

u/melswift 14d ago

"Oh my Gah!"

"Oh my Gah!"

"Oh my Gah!"

32

u/Jean-Pierre1er 14d ago

Yeah, they didn't even put the camera work at risk by trying to help 👏

8

u/AC-burg 14d ago

Now one thing I noticed, is if they would have had a trailer on that hitch, it would have saved them and none of this would have happened.

4

u/Wonderful_Roof1739 14d ago

I saw that, and was like run a proper strap or tow rope around that hitch and attach it to another car, then at least they stabilized it and get a tow company, or if you have a big enough truck pull them back. I suspect the camerawoman's car had no tow rope or hitch (although an axle could be used to anchor the SUV until help arrives)

6

u/Naive_Personality367 14d ago

Seemed like the help they were getting was doing so well I suppose lol

5

u/Jean-Pierre1er 14d ago

That's why they then drive away, was useless to call 911.

6

u/potatoperson132 14d ago

Wait are we sure we don’t need some blown out extremely loud annoying ass music over the top of this?

4

u/Naive_Personality367 14d ago

that oh no tune should do it, make sure to add lots of canned laughter too

This is the Reddit way...

6

I originally watched without sound. I'm glad I re-watched with the sound on. And I'm glad they OK.

Bismillah

They will not let me go

Let him goooo

9

Seriously. So creepy!!! Where did she come from? Watched a couple times in slow motion and can’t figure it out. 👀☠️

3

u/pga_uy 14d ago

I thought no one else had noticed her! She really looked like The Reaper wearing a pink hooded cloak!

3

u/pga_uy 14d ago

I thought exactly the same!!! And she looked disappointed

161

u/Late_Conference9022 14d ago

It looks like it was still in Drive not reverse.

31

u/Top-Emu-2292 14d ago

Yep, you can see the rear wheel turn as the big lad pushes down.

41

u/Late_Conference9022 14d ago

Oh dear. Fatal mistake. It would have worked otherwise.

14

u/__dontpanic__ 14d ago

It would have reversed over the big lad then

4

u/HVDynamo 14d ago

Yeah, there were just lots of bad outcomes here. Best chance would have been to confirm they stay on the brake and shift it into reverse, then have the two people get in the back so they aren’t likely to fall or get run over. Then and only then give it some gas in reverse before releasing the brake so the only tension on the tire is reverse. Best chance.

But… the process of setting all that up could still have gone sideways, and maybe there isn’t enough traction to actually back out of it. So still plenty of room for failure.

9

u/83736294827 14d ago

It’s not in drive because none of the wheels are spinning on their own. Gravity pulls that rear left wheel, and it will turn even when in park if the wheel on the other side is off the ground.

→ More replies (3)

11

u/ChromoStoopid 14d ago

No I think that's just the wheel spinning as the car slides forward.

Driver should get out and call a tow truck.

38

u/socks 14d ago

Yep - that was expensive stupidity.

21

u/Fritzo2162 14d ago

But that would have cost like $80!

11

u/GrinningGrump 14d ago

Tow truck costs $7,15694570463e+118? Now I get why they didn't call one.

6

u/labtrash68 14d ago

In this economy??

3

u/Angelworks42 14d ago

Well $100 is less than what it's going to cost now which is basically a new Sequoia - which even used are expensive.

3

u/snoman81 14d ago

Driver should have put the car in reverse.

5

u/CorrelateClinicallee 14d ago

I think the driver's door was stuck and couldn't open more than a few inches.

38

u/balirosa 14d ago

My first thought would be to climb out the back like Jurassic park.

7

u/83736294827 14d ago

Probably wouldn’t help unless the differential was locked.

3

u/rivalary 14d ago

I'm trying to remember how this would work. If it was in reverse and she was giving power, the tire in the air would be trying to go backwards but the tire on the ground would be free to move forwards no matter the gear, because it's got an open dif?

6

u/83736294827 14d ago

That is correct. The wheel with the least friction moves with a totally open diff.

Tow truck would have been smarter 🙄

2

u/SkillsInPillsTrack2 14d ago

Perhaps some are, but they are very rare.

14

u/Leading-Stuff1900 14d ago

That dude with no shirt just casually sent that car over the edge.

14

u/muttmunchies 14d ago

He puts the weight down that would have allowed her to possibly reverse…except she had it in drive.

2

u/smarterthanyoda 14d ago

It wasn’t in drive. If it was in drive the wheels would have kept spinning when it was upside down.

He shifted the weight so that the part of the car that was holding it back got lifted off the ground.

2

u/Leading-Stuff1900 14d ago

Maybe he should have coordinated it with her, rather than just walking up and rocking the car?

4

u/JulesSilverman 14d ago

Physics is everywhere.

4

u/blvckcvts 14d ago

Wasn’t his fault the car was still in drive, atleast he tried to help unlike the person filming

"Here, let me give you a hand"

8

u/I4gotmyothername 14d ago

Honestly this may be one of the best case scenarios (except they could have had their seatbelt on)

If the driver had successfully been in reverse I can see them just uncontrolled reversing over the people assisting. If the driver had tried to get out that car looks pretty set to potentially fall on top of them. Maybe just taking the fall from inside (again, WITH a seatbelt) is the best.

4

u/jhwheuer 14d ago

No barrier there, just a curb? Facepalm

2

u/Rod_Torfulson 14d ago

What country is this that you could get away with no wall or guardrail there?

5

u/JUYED-AWK-YACC 14d ago

Mississippi.

4

u/Rod_Torfulson 14d ago

So a third world country.

3

u/jhwheuer 14d ago

Been there, dismal

4

u/elmarkitse 14d ago

4

4

u/Temporary-Banana4232 14d ago

Idiots. Call for help.

I have zero faith in humanity anymore. You’re all fucking dumb and have attention issues.

23

u/ao01_design 14d ago

I like the part where the person filming try their hardest to help in any way they can. That was beautiful.

7

u/beekeeny 14d ago

Plenty of undocumented cases where the car is saved thanks to the help of people who passed by 😅

3

u/East-Future-9944 14d ago

If the camera work is good, they get a pass in my book.

4

u/smarterthanyoda 14d ago

The guy that was “helping any way he can” rolled them over the edge.

It’s better to call someone who knows what they’re doing, but Bouncy McGee kind of ruined that.

The first rule of problem solving is that the first thing to do always is to remove the source of the problem.

Electric sparks? You turn electricity off.

Driver does something stupid? You remove the driver.

They assumed she was trying to bring the car back up. She was in the same mindset that brought her to this situation. She was the problem.

You can tell how bad she's mentally disconnected from the situation by observing a bit:

  • The engine was still on
  • She opened the door without looking outside first
  • She was holding the door from the external handle
  • She is not stepping on the brake

I'm assuming here but I bet she was still stepping on the gas, not because she was trying to move the car, but because since she had no seatbelt and she was slipping down. Once she opened the door her own weight worked against her efforts to close it. Her body was pressed against the door and she couldn't reach the handle inside so she grabbed anywhere she could trying to keep herself from falling by holding the door closed. She was using her feet to keep herself upright and stepping on the gas.

The guys heard the engine revving and assumed she was trying to back the car. She never shifted to move back or to stop the car, her mind was not present. Once they leveraged the weight the car was free to motor onwards.

1- Talk to the driver. Tell her to stop the engine and shift to park 2- Help her and anyone else to get out of the car 3- Take a deep breath, relax, regroup, rethink, evaluate the possibilities and choose the option with lower risk and better guarantees.

The car was probably fine underneath. But crashing the roof.. That might have totalled it.

I hope she was ok. But I'd be surprised if she escaped unscathed.

3

u/83736294827 14d ago

Fyi, this car may have been in park already. Park won’t always stop the wheels from moving when some of them are off the ground. Her moving to get out could have been enough weight shift to make it fall anyway.

3

u/balirosa 14d ago

Physics

3

u/Disastrous-Hurry-236 14d ago

Because the individual was trying to help, there is no intent to harm, which generally rules out murder charges, but a misdemeanor or with prosecutorial discretion he can be let go without charges !

3

I can only hope that they are too poor to replace the vehicle and their dumbassery is now limited to within walking distance of their house.

3

u/God_Country_ND 14d ago

From bad to worse

3

u/pete_68 13d ago

Somehow the door was keeping the car from moving forward. When helper guy hopped on the back, the instant the door released from the concrete, the car moved forward.

I like the guy holding onto the SUV like he's going to be able to stop it. Glad he didn't go over with it.

I always wondered why some folks decide that it's on them to "help" out just because they are there, instead of calling the ones specifically trained for this.

I would've understood if she was in a life ir death situation but THEY damn near put her in it by "helping" out.

The bottom of the car touching concrete prevented the car from moving forward. The dude teeter-tottering the car removed that car/concrete contact friction so the car moved forward.

That poor wall.

Lol. Well done.

1

u/vxeel 14d ago

Front right tire was already starting over the edge. The left middle of the frame was the only thing keeping the car in place.

Leveling the car out put gravity in place and the front right rolled down and launched the car over the edge.
