It's bullshit based on pseudo-science used to screen people deemed not fitting based on arbitrary considerations.

Basically there is so much power unbalance, even McDonald's jobs have 10 applicants per position. So it really doesn't matter if it's a good way to sort, it sorts, so it's used.

Also, it selects people that will agree to the worst bullshit their hierarchy will impose on them, which I guess is something you'd want a lot of in your sla... employees.

At taco bell we had a survey that was basically a bunch of "do you want to go to work? Are you nice to customers?" and 90% of our applicants got a one star score lol

"do you want to do to work" is a no for every job otherwise you'd do it for free

Every one of those questions has the attached subtext of wanting to stay employed and being able to afford bills. Do I want to go to work? Of course not, I'd rather be doing something else but I do understand the consequential chain of showing up to work, doing my job, collecting a paycheck, and keeping a roof over my head. Will I be nice to customers? Under the threat of living on the street, I guess I'll try to be as pleasant as possible. These questions are just there to screen for absolute idiots who struggle to live in polite society or have zero impulse control.

And you'd go 8 hours a day every weekday with very few days off and an obligation to fill out mountains of admin paperwork, food safety regulatory compliance, recruiting focus groups... If you weren't receiving pay?

People still need money to live though. If I didn't have to worry about money, I would still do the work I do today. In fact, I have done the work for free for multiple months.

Yes, people need money to live, which means they have to do a job. Something that nobody would do without being paid.

Sure you'd volunteer if you wanted to but you wouldn't go every day without fail for years and make it the thing you spend most of your waking life doing if you didn't have to.

I think it is best if you don't make so strong generalizing statements about 8 billion people. Is this true for most people. Probably, I would agree. But I just don't agree that nobody would since I could see myself being one who does.

Edit: I am lucky that people too dumb to understand simple sentences remove themselves from my view. I am not refusing that people in general work for money. I am pushing back against the idea that everybody work a job because they are forced to. Is that really so difficult to understand?

I love those ones. Especially the old honesty one I took a decade ago. I got a perfect score that my boss kept as a cheat sheet. One of the tricky ones is that it asks whether you have ever lied. People tended to think they should say no but I think it's testing whether in the case you do lie, would you eventually come forward or whether you're lying on the test cause who hasn't lied?

Wish those like it were still around but unfortunately the new ones screen me out cause they're too vague and too job focused. The more job focused ones are especially dumb since it's likely the job is new to the applicant or they were trained differently at a previous location. Like they expect people to come pre-trained.

I'm guessing.... they at least have some kind of basic model behind this, like people selecting specific options will most likely to quit after a few weeks. Whether that model is just BS'ing or not is another discussion.

This. They can be so picky they can do some bullshit psychology tests wo reduce their attrition by 1%.
