I just wanted a hot dog The Kitchen Museum?

Post image

I came home late from work a few nights ago and hadn't eaten all day. My wife and kids were already in bed so I figured I'd quietly make some stove-top ramen. This photo represents exactly how I found the cooking area.

The next morning my wife asks what time I got home and I mention in our conversation that I made ramen before going to bed. She couldn't believe that I used the stove "when the light was on". I said "Yeah, the light was helpful in seeing what I was doing". She insists I shouldn't have been using the stove and should have known because "the light was on".

I'm baffled. We are still arguing about this days later.

EDIT -- wow, overwhelmed by the response of fellow Redditors! We are... white...not from the southeast US..not children...and I left the stove as clean as it was before I cooked. I asked for clarification from my loving wife -- TRULY we have only ever been angry at each other a handful of times in our 10 year marriage -- and she says "the stove was clean and done for the day and you could have just used the microwave for your ramen". Apparently the light is how stoves go to sleep for the evening?

EDIT 2 -- we are getting a divorce. JUST KIDDING. My wife looked over many of the comments and acknowledges that she was in the wrong and is slightly embarrassed by all of the attention.

For some reason I don't think it's really about the stove...

You want me to have an abortion!!

It's really the only sensible thing to do if it's done properly. Therapeutically there's no danger involved.

Surely you can't be serious.

OP is leaving out the info that he makes messes all over the stovetop and leaves that for his wife to clean before she can cook anything for their children. She has to do all that before goes to work. He’s inconsiderate about his messes and whining on reddit as if he’s the angel

Are you OP's wife? Otherwise everybody here is speculating and/or projecting their own problems.

It's the point of the rule, the only point of the rule. You don't have this rule because you don't want people to eat after work. You have this rule because people or multiple people are leaving messes late at night

Projection much? At this point you’re just assuming nonsense. There’s no evidence or proof to back up your words.

A distinct possibility, but that's all it is without more info. Could be any number of reasons.

Hi OP'S wife 👋

OP's wife also paid me to defend her in this thread. The husband is a drunken monster and ruined the sanctity of the innocent stove he should be hung (but it's small)

My youngest sister married a man exactly like that. He skewed stories to make her seem mentally ill, cruel, and selfish. He always left out the important details about his genuinely bad habits.

I’m not defending your sister’s husband (hopefully exhusbnd?) but in OP’s case he was making ramen….how much mess could he possibly make?

u/venomous-gerbil Jul 06 '26

I mean, tbf it isn’t like that stove is really clean YKWIM?

You know your sister as a sister. He knows her as a wife. Our spouses see sides of us even our family have never seen.

She may very well be all those things and you wouldn’t know because you’re not in their home 24/7 and she gave you her side from her perspective.

Oh that’s not the case. Things everyone saw at holiday gatherings. Then her ex husband would go on social media and tell the story to his followers in ways that completely made her seem like a horrible wife. Like this “so then she locked the power tools closet and the vacuum closet and I can’t get in!” But leaving off the part where he woke up an entire multigenerational family at new years by turning on power tools and “accidentally” scraping up our father’s Christmas present (a new car all his children had paid for)

I’m saying some people like juicy drama stories so they leave out their own bad behavior to seem like they’re the last sane man in a room of lunatics. It’s like how YouTubers and podcasters do that with the title of their posts. Being high drama to stir up engagement

u/Grizzled_Ghost Jul 06 '26

And that angers you because being mentally ill is your thing?

-5

u/Dish_Minimum Jul 06 '26

Gwrl I’m not angry. I do have depression which is a mental illness. But I’m not upset that these heterosexuals are having a marital dispute. Unfortunately…you do seem angry about it. Are you ok, gwrliepop?

6

u/Grizzled_Ghost Jul 06 '26

Do I seem angry? In the same way that OP seems like a lying manipulator?

You should talk to your therapist and try to figure out why you feel the need to project these baseless assumptions onto strangers,

2

u/Dish_Minimum Jul 06 '26

Hun you’re literally doing the thing you ascribe to me. You see that right?

8

u/Grizzled_Ghost Jul 06 '26

My therapist said it was ok because I'm a good judge of character and probably right.

If you come home late from work, should you be expected to have to eat out or not eat? Genuine question because you seem to be glossing over that main issue.

-2

u/Current_External6569 Jul 06 '26

Op's wife didn't suggest he go without eating though. She said he should have used the microwave.

10

u/Ornery-Ad2199 Jul 06 '26

She doesn’t have the right to tell him what appliances he can and can’t use! I’ve been married over 30 years and am the one who cleans the kitchen; yet, I can’t imagine ever telling my husband he can only use the microwave. That’s crazy!

5

u/mfknnayyyy Jul 06 '26

Doesn't make sense unless OP does not clean up after himself on a regular basis. If that's the case, I can see her being a bit frustrated. But all she had to do was send him a message, "I'm going to bed. If you need to heat up food, please use the microwave." I do feel like something important is being omitted.

u/Particular-Bake-7888 Jul 06 '26

Oh, I didn't see that part of the post

-1

u/Dish_Minimum Jul 06 '26

All he’s gotta do is clean up after himself and put back the prep for his children’s breakfast. Nobody told him to starve. He’s just gotta be a responsible adult…or use the microwave

14

u/Particular-Bake-7888 Jul 06 '26

Where is the after photo showing that he didn't do that or that it was messy?

-2

u/FlammulinaVelulu Jul 06 '26

Ding ding ding!

What its about, we may never know, but its not about the stove.

-1

u/dookieshoes97 Jul 06 '26

Yeah, this can't be about the stove lol. She's looking for a fight.
