I transferred from toronto humber to civil engineering here and now need to take 8+ courses per semester just to catch up on prerequisites. I'm juggling this with a full-time job and family life.

Here's my dilemma: I can force myself through the coursework, but I know I won't retain much of it—maybe some passive knowledge sticks. I'm tempted to lean heavily on AI for assignments and studying, just to survive the semester. But I'm wondering if that's actually shooting myself in the foot.

My real questions:

• Civil engineers: What from your degree do you actually use on the job vs. what you looked up?
• Did skipping deep learning cost you early in your career?
• Is there a middle ground between drowning in coursework and gaming it with AI?

I need advice on whether this pace + my survival strategy is sustainable, or if I should reconsider, graduate much later and take less courses.

Anyone have a link for scrubs? The CVT ones can be postman blue and steel blue, but they’re so pricey from campus 😭 and the material literally sucks because it’s polyester. I’m trying to get a few more pairs for placements. Does anyone have recommendations for places where you were able to get them for a decent price?

If you got accepted into any of these programs straight out of highschool, what was your top 6 average?

I am a continuing education student, so my osap applications are based on semester, not an entire academic year. Last semester i had no problem applying and recieving funds. This semester, the program/semester im entering into wasnt an immediate option so i had to input those dates manually. Since im not able to provide tuition and text costs and other (because i pay on a course basis not tuition, and i dont know what my text book fees are ahead of time) then my school (mohawk) needs to submit that information before the amount of funding is even calculated. I applied on august first and still nothing has been changed or confirmed. What the hell is going on?? At this rate, i wont recieve funding till halfway through the semester. Anyone in the same boat?

For those who have completed 339 Pre-Health, how much did you spend on books?

School starts next week, so technically I’m a little late to the whole “budgeting” thing 😂 But I’ve been out of school for a while and just want to mentally prepare myself for how much I might end up spending on books and course materials lol.

Hi everyone, I’m a student at Mohawk College in Ontario and I’m trying to understand something about BSWD/CSG-DSE funding. I’d really appreciate advice from anyone who works with BSWD, Accessibility Services, Financial Aid, or has recently gone through this at another Ontario college.

I have ADHD and I’m currently working with Accessibility Services to determine disability-related educational supports. One of the things I was hoping to request through BSWD/CSG-DSE is a laptop and noise-cancelling headphones, along with appropriate assistive technology.

What happened with Mohawk

At my Accessibility appointment, I was told that the laptop limit was $500 and headphones were $250.

I was surprised because I had heard from multiple students/people familiar with BSWD that the computer-package cap under BSWD was $2,000.

I then contacted the Accessibility team asking for clarification. They replied: "Some funding limits are set by the institution; Mohawk College has implemented a limit of $500 for a laptop & $250 for headphones."

So I now understand that these are apparently Mohawk's institutional limits, rather than them simply saying the Ministry BSWD limit is $500/$250.

The confusing part

I found a copy of the 2025–26 BSWD Ministry manual, and the section for:

Computer system/package lists: Funding cap: $2,000, Frequency of entitlement: Once every four loan years

If Mohawk is administering BSWD/CSG-DSE, can the college simply implement a $500 institutional limit for a laptop when the Ministry BSWD manual lists a $2,000 funding cap for the computer-package category?

Is the $2,000 actually a Ministry maximum that institutions can lower at their discretion?

And most importantly:

If a student's documented disability-related functional limitations genuinely require a computer costing more than $500, is there an exception or higher-cost equipment review process through BSWD/CSG-DSE?

I've also seen many current students at other colleges saying their Accessibility advisors told them to request up to $2000 for this academic year, the applicable maximum.

Would you:

• Is the Ontario Ombudsman an appropriate option if the issue cannot be resolved?

I'm not trying to argue that I automatically deserve a $2000 laptop. I understand that funding is based on documented disability-related functional limitations and that an institution may have its own policies.

I think it is unfair at many levels especially that its not mohawk's but ministry funding and many others have taken advantage of what I can't simply because I go to mohawk.

I just want to understand how a $500 institutional limit fits with the Ministry's BSWD equipment funding rules, and whether there is any mechanism for students whose documented accessibility needs require higher-cost equipment.

If anyone here works in BSWD/Accessibility/Financial Aid, or has dealt with this recently at an Ontario college, I'd really appreciate your advice.

Are we only able to register for courses within our assigned semester block, or can we see what other courses are available? For example, I’ve already completed Math 1, so if Math 2 is available this Fall, how would I find out and register for it?

Hello, posting on behalf of my partner who doesn't have Reddit. He is going to be attending Mohawk's Stoney Creek campus in January '27 but is travelling on a student visa. Early in the application process there was an issue with his name where they made his middle name a part of his first name because it was on some official documents. There was a lengthy process just to get it changed in order to match visa documents. Now on his iCent portal his name apparently is still unchanged and they are telling us that it's just what information they got from the college. Someone called to get confirmation of his name and now he is trying to get in contact with Mohawk to confirm with the college that his name change actually happened in the system. He has called the registrar's office and the international office but nobody seems to be able to tell him or can check in the system for him. I can't call myself obviously due to privacy but we're just looking for anyone who knows how to get through to anyone an obtain this information. We also tried to email them multiple times but nobody has ever replied to his emails.

I really need help, I am preparing prerequisite for sep2027’intake. I have obtained mostly 90s in math bio chm and physics but I am falling behind in English, I am mature student and upgrading through TVO ILC, does anyone have information what are any other option to upgrade English? I have 2 years of post secondary education from canada and i did took Collage reading and writing and grades are 66. As I have 2 years of post secondary education from canada do i still need IELTS? And what other options I have to upgrade my English if my final marks fall behind 70s?

As per website minimum requirement is 80% does anyone go in with 80s ?

So I have to do the math one as well as the communications one, but I was wondering for the math one if I don’t score well will I be put in a lower class level? Just trying to understand how it will affect my schooling.

Does anyone know when we would receive information on our lab days? Also, in the nursing handbook/email sent out they stated that lab would be at McMaster, is this true for Wentworth?

Is there a way to set up my Mohawk/Outlook student email to automatically forward emails to my Gmail? Google says go to Outlook's Settings (gear symbol) > Mail > Forwarding, but there's no Forwarding option in my mail settings list.

I took a grade 12 English course in summer but because of my job I wasn’t really able to get good grade and only got a 75. Is it worth retaking the course again or should I stick to it and aim for better marks in other courses. Also do they look at my grade 11 marks or just grade 12. If you have any other information about applying and acceptance please mention them it would be really helpful.
