Hurricanes // Weather Dear vacationing tourists, please read before posting questions

Since there are so many of you asking the same things about the impending storm, let’s gather some pertinent info for you. First thing you need to know, it’s going to rain. A lot. At the risk of being crude, it’ll be wetter than a Kardashian at an NBA game. It’ll be windy, but barring an unexpected strengthening, it won’t be hurricane level winds.

A large chunk of Horry and Georgetown counties are developed wetlands, meaning it floods fairly easily. Without getting into the science of it all, this storm has the potential to dump a lot of rain that we normally wouldn’t get from a storm coming in directly from the Atlantic. Know your flood zones and travel routes and plan accordingly. Contact whoever you’re renting from (air bnb owners, hotels, etc) and ask about how flooding has impacted where you’re staying.

If you feel like the locals aren’t that concerned about the storm and aren’t taking your questions seriously, remember that most of us have been dealing with this kind of weather for years or decades. It would be like going to Buffalo and asking if you should cancel going to that Bills game because of snow. The best thing you can do is educate yourself about what to expect. I’ve provided links below. If you don’t feel comfortable dealing with the storm, by all means reschedule your plans. It’s better to be calm and safe at home than to be in an unfamiliar place and scared. Local emergency services will have their hands full as it is, they don’t need uninformed visitors getting into situations that can be easily avoided.

Know where dry ground can be found. Stay indoors until the storm passes, and for the love of all that’s holy, stay off the roads until you know your travel route is clear for traffic.

Mod Announcement Automod nerfed

We are quickly coming to the end of the season and in this last year the sub has grown significantly.

Normally we have automod which puts posts and comments in a queue for approval if your account is still new but we are struggling to keep up with this.

I have nerfed automod much more recently as an expirement to see if we can rely more on reports rather than manually approving so if you see something that violates the rules report it.

That being said, disagreeing with a political posts and reporting it will eventually get you ban. Those are allowed. The good news is I don't care which side you are on because they are both awful in my opinion and I hate the modern censorship that happens on the internet because it isolates people into groups. So feel free to argue all you want but If your argument is "fuck you x sucks" don't be surprised if it's removed... We still have to follow reddits rules or the sub will be ban.

Lastly if anyone is interested in being a mod I'll consider adding people. Feel free to post below and whether you have experience or not.

Things To Do Recs // Questions Spending a couple of nights in North Myrtle

Hello friends, I’ll be spending my bday this year (which is tomorrow) in North Myrtle, I’ll be arriving pretty late, so I wouldn’t want to waste money on renting a hotel room given I’m planning to spend my morning at the beach anyway. Are there any spots where can I park overnight? Also, what places I can go for good vibes and meet people (20s,30s)? Maybe dance? Latin or anything tbh.

Doing research for a book.

It had previously been an Italian ice joint and a KFC before that, but I seem to recall it being a mom-and-pop eatery in the early 90’s. Any photos or info on it from that period?

Looking For Friends // Groups How/where do I meet fellow young adults?

I’m 22 and I don’t know how to make friends outside of school. I really want friends in the area. Are there specific places or events other young adults go to in the area? I have weekends off so ideally these places or events or groups happen on the weekend. So where do I go?

Local Events Historical/Armoured Fencing

Hello all,

If anyone is interested, we have a historical/armoured fencing group that practices within the area. Our practices are on sundays at market commons and we have loaner gear for those who want to try it out.

There are no fees, as we are an educational nonprofit organization. We are always looking for more people to sword fight, so please reach out if you are interested.

Things To Do Recs // Questions Semi-itinerate Uke playing poet to pass through 9/8 - 9/10: seeks open mic / couch

Hello. I'm Josh. I make music, design polemical t-shirts, and hold down the fort. I'm based in Charleston for now, working full time at a local Spirits Shop, and off the clock, putting polish to a rough recording of a first LP, "Manufacturing Dissent". In an effort both to promote the forthcoming album, and seed interest in the t-shirt operation, I set out on an intermittent tour of open mics throughout the Carolinas, Georgia, maybe beyond. My next stop is Myrtle Beach.

Which brings us to the first objective of this post: I'd appreciate any info about open mic nights around Myrtle Beach, specifically on the evenings of the 8th, Tuesday or Wednesday the 9th. Don't mind a reasonable bit of extra traveling, if it's not too far and worth the trip.

I do not, unfortunately, have a vehicle at the moment, which means that the budget, already tight, needs to account for both travel and lodging. As a veteran car camper, the choice is obvious, and the plan is to rent a car for both scooting around and the odd snooze, load up on wet wipes and map out the truck stops and overnight lot options.

And thus we arrive at this post's second objective: I have brief history of surfing couches, but it's been a long time, and I'm not even sure that's still a thing. Rather than googling with the google to get googled to the googler and getting googled to about it, I've opted to drop a line in Pond Reedit- krplunk. Should anyone have a spare couch or bed, floor, FROG or pool house, and you might could suffer a clean, quite guest for a night or two come the second week of September, please do let me know.

I should be arriving mid-late afternoon Tuesday (8th) and departing sometime on Thursday (10th).

If you've any questions about me, as an artist or potential house guest, or if you'd like to scope some of my work, t shirt or music, don't hesitate to reach out. The best way to reach me would be philosopherpunk at the google mail. Use the subject MYRTLE TOUR or some such.

Stay righteous. Thanks.

(Note to the moderator: I'm not promoting anything, and am soliciting information about local open mic nights and potential places to crash for an evening. I keep getting the automated 'heads up, you're soliciting' message, but don't see how I can make this any different and still effective. Mercy, I suppose is the point. I appreciate it, the human touch. Be well.)

General Discussion Scared Little Kitten By CiCi's and too close to the highway

Post image

I Live a bit too far from this location to come back and i have a trip coming up, but i just cant let it happen! I was eating at the cicis by the side of a highway thingy, and when i unlocked my car a little kitty went flying out from under there! it was a little guy, old enough to be away from mom. he seemed very friendly and i tried for hours to crawl through the bushes he was hiding in army style. he was very sweet and multiple times approached me, but never had the opportunity to grab him. he seems very sweet and is white with a patch of i think gray on his head? he's in the left bushes if your looking towards the road. he has been there at least sometime before as there seemed to be old cat food left out for him. but they weren't eaten at all and swarming with ants. at the nights end he hopped up on the median and hopped over. a car went past and i couldn't bear to look over to see if he was ok or not. if anyone knows the Myrtle beach Cici's pizza. Please would someone check on the poor little kitty? i cried and am still in hystarics. if someone can catch him i can handle it from there. The poor thing was playful and so so kind and vocal. we meowed at each other for hours. Attached below is the image of the poor little kitty

Resturant Recs // Questions Pierogi House

I’ve been in the MB area since February on a travel healthcare assignment and my biggest gripe with the area is the lack of good food. I spent several months here and didn’t go to one good restaurant. About a month ago I discovered the Pierogi House and it’s genuinely one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The food, even if it’s a little pricey, is phenomenal and by far the best restaurant in the MB area. The owners are Polish immigrants and the place is authentic as it could be. I just wanted to spread the word because I’ve eaten there 3x in the past month and I can’t say enough great things about it.

Anyone else have any thoughts about it? I feel like I need to spread the word about this place because it’s typically never busy when I go. The line should be out of the door.

Does anyone know what’s going to be built at this location? They’ve been grading the lot and put up a fence in the last couple of weeks. If there’s a ‘Coming Soon’ sign, I’m totally missing the announcement.

Thank you in advance! 😊

General Discussion For those of you who grew up in MB and moved away but return every so often for xyz reason, how does it make you feel?

So I was born and raised in Myrtle, graduated from MBHS, went to CCU, all that fun stuff, but then moved away in my early 20s to go see what else was out in the world. Now I've been gone for 15ish years and visit every so often to see friends and family and I'm starting to see why some people hate change. My old house, the houses my friends use to live in, my old schools, places I worked at, places were we would run around, etc, all of it has changed for the better or worse and it makes everything feel very alien. Especially when I didn't pay attention to it the first few visits, but now it's like stepping into an entirely new citytownwhatever. Though I'm happy for my friends who have benefited from the economic increase, they all seem like they won out by settling in right before the tide came in, pun intended.

So to those of you who are now tourists in your birthplace, what have you felt when you visit?
